the combat system looks fucking beast at first and then goes nowhere. you're doing the same thing hours in as you're doing in the first 20 minutes and it won't sustain any intelligent person's interest because there are only a handful of easily executed combos with obvious applications.
the backgrounds and dust's animations are appealing but everything else is some sort of horrible furry nightmare. there's no thematic tie-in between the visual, creative and gameplay elements. the childlike feel comes from the sense that a teen of mediocre talent had all this shit in his notebook. This teen likes anime and furries, which are both fine, i guess, but do nothing for the game.
The dialogue isn't literally the worst I've ever experienced but it's up there. I learned new ways to write badly from this game, like having characters chide each other every few lines over their allegedly excited but actually tepid reactions to uninteresting circumstances, as if the slightest shred of human emotion were a fucking crime. That shows them bonding, or something.
Only dust's voice over is acceptable. Everyone else, without exception, is fucking obnoxious. Your floating assistant will piss you off. I hate her and her stupid shitty jokes.
The game is full of sidequests you don't care about because the rewards have no relevance to how combat actually plays out and you have to talk to these miserable characters. the dialogue goes on absolutely forever, I can't stress how annoying it is to even see it flash by as you skip it. They're not exactly inspired, either, like there's one quest where you have to get five imp's nuts or something, let the imps keep their nuts, I don't give a fuck. Theoretically the experience is stuffed but you're never given anything to care about about mechanically or in terms of story so in practice there's nothing to do. The game is a test of how long you're willing to do the same thing over and over without thinking about whether you actually want to.
These are the game reviews that I find absolutely hilarious to read.
It feels like many nowadays, including me, are a bit spoiled, or rather have way too high a standard as to what is a good game.
Remember this game where you had four buttons: forward, jump, crouch and run faster. It was called Super Mario. You do the same thing, over and over and over and over again and the game was the best game anybody had played at that time. Thus, I don't feel like the argument "you do the same thing hours in as you did the first 20 minutes" is a good argument. Rather point out the flaws in terms of challenge. Super Mario was challenging as hell, yet simple in mechanics.
It's say it's perfectly reasonable to raise your standards over time, if Super Mario Bros came out today, it's not like anyone would buy it, even if it was a cheap indie-game. You can't really help but compare games to previous games of similar styles/genres, and Dust is just helpless compared to brilliant games like the metroid and (some) castlevania games.
I agree that "you do the same thing for hours" is a terrible argument though, since it's applicable to every game in existance.
Of course, raising your standards is great. It puts preassure on the devs and results in better games. But raise it too high and a perfectly decent game for €6.99 becomes utter garbage in the eyes of the spoiled.
subtle jab, friend. clearly, it's spoiled not to be so wasteful with your free time that you spend it wallowing in a pile of shit games because they were cheap.

Puzzle Quest 2 is a match-3 game with some RPG elements, but you're matching 3 most of the time. Haven't played the other one. I have some other puzzle games to recommend if you want
Do that, now youre just teasing me
btw that Puzzle platformer also looks like a match-3 game with some other elements added to it as the name suggests. FYI, if I list the puzzle games here it'll be pretty lengthy It's about 7/8 indie games
ya, but puzzle quest seems more like 10,000,000 which i have played, i guess ill pick super puzzle platformer instead. And list it already, ill probably have some of them ^^
Which ones of these don't you own, I'll tell you more about them if needed ^^ -And Yet It Moves -Cogs -Crayon Physics Deluxe -Thomas Was Alone -Spacechem -Sequence -Solar 2

It's the second worst game I've ever spent money on. I'm not in the habit of trashing mediocre games because I like it. I don't give a fuck about mediocre games so there's no point. This is an exceptional mess on every level. There are so, so few things it does right.

Funny. None of the reviews of Dust I read mentioned that the combos are what makes the game fun. In fact, all of them say that the fighting is pretty simplistic and not the reason why the game is fun. Maybe you just should read some more reviews before buying a game?

I don't even know what reviews mention... from the ones I've read, they basically say "This game is good. Here's a high score, game. Also, the game looks pretty". I can't find any review which actually explains what makes the game good in any form of detail. In fact, what I've seen most commonly is a comment about the game looking good, the game having a story which leaves quite a bit to be desired... and stellar combat. So yeah, maybe "combos make the game fun" is an exaggeration, but it does seem like reviewers are going the route of lying about the games combat being awesome when it isn't.

Weird, that's not at all the vibe I got. Admittedly, I tend to go for video reviews, since seeing a game in action is about a million times more useful than reading about it. And all of them basically said that the combat is fun but simple, and the game is too easy. And both was pretty obvious in the videos I saw.
I always felt that reviewers added 10 extra points for it being an Indie game and developed by one person. It's commendable i guess but if you really only look at the game it''s not that great. Since it's very cheap it's still a good deal but it's not one of the greats out there.
Is there any newer type FPS that kind of play like older style FPS on sale??? (Faster paced + not a million cutscenes) Kind of a vague question I know but I pretty much play doom and have for years. Theres just so much content out from 17-18 years of mapmaking and with newer style source ports, brutal doom and speedrunning it's impossible to get bored.
I really wouldn't mind trying out a new game for once though haha.

it's pretty linear but you may like Hard Reset, only introduction cutscenes and some other stuff, no mags your gun just has a bunch of bullets and different fire modes and it is fairly fast paced on a cyberpunk style setting.
Of todays deals the only one i don't own and i'm mildly interested in is Dark Souls but i own Demons Souls for PS3 and i'm not THAT big a fan . I'll probably wait till it's below 5€ in a sale.

Jupp, Dead Island Riptide for 19,99$. Just use a VPN/proxy-site to check if there is some deal that is banned in germany ;-)
EDIT: lol... you edited your post right before I send my answer, perfect timing post.

I already own the first Dead Island and Riptide is ehh not really that great.
The hell? Why would people vote for The Walking Dead and not Van Helsing? I thought everybody who wanted TWD must already have it...damn. Hopefully it will be on sale later on.

If/when it comes on sale, look for SpaceChem. It's a great great great puzzle game.

lol, the thing about the voting is that people vote based on the recognition of the game. Like how Skyrim, Left 4 Dead 2, etc usually wins in the votes despite it being out for some time and have been at a cheap price before. Of course there are times that people miss the sale, but I usually have an idea what game will win the vote just by going off the name.

Yeah many times it's just a popularity contest, but there have been a few upsets worth a good laugh. Rollercoaster Tycoon3 beating EuroTruck Simulator for instance.
Good deals today. Arkham City and Dark Souls for 7.5€ are both very much worth it, and you would be a fool if you didn't buy Human Revolution for 2.84€. Not as good as Deus Ex was back then, but still a very good game.

I have the feeling that people (me included) just blank out the "random shit simulator" things on steam. There are just so many weird simulators of uninteresting stuff that i slowly start to think that maybe i am missing out on something by ignoring them. After all, a lot of people must play all those farm/train/etc... simulators or they wouldn't keep making them.

Yup, I vote on games based on if I like it or the most recognizable name if I haven't played any of the games. I voted for walking dead and ass creed 3 before cause I played both and loved them.
