Also parrying is freaking useless, as you swing, then 1-2 enemies swing and you won't parry fast enough due to swinging. Dodging works fine but its kinda stupid dodging around like a ninja all the time. So far the game runs like a sack of crap, the controls are atrocious, combat is annoying and generally unfun, everything just has a laggy sloggy delay to it aswell. Game seems extremely untuned, it does however look fantastic. But it's from my end barely playable.

Im playing on hard and there is like no way to deal with groups of enemies like in the first game, does this get better as you get further into the game? But I agree, it's very annoying having to roll all over the place just to kill three enemies (although I find the combat more satisfying than in TW1).

And try turn down the settings, it helps with responsiveness a lot. But if you're talking about you not being able to break mid move slashes and things like that, it's obviously intentional. To me after playing through the prologue and some of first chapter, it looks extremely well polished and amazingly immersive and mature.

Because if not, im just not gonna play it, it's too frustrating. I assume you are at the very beginning of the game. One thing that you should consider, is that "Hard" is not like Hard in most games, it is actually extremely difficult. If it is your first play through, you should most certainly be on Normal. You will die plenty on Normal, trust me. And the only way to survive playing through on Hard is proper use of Signs and Alchemy. Even if you are playing a predominantly "Sword fighting" character (which you haven't even gotten far enough to put points in, I'm talking strictly play-style), you must augment that with your other abilities: especially on Hard. There is no way to play through the game on Hard just dancing around and attacking enemies. It is basically impossible.

I've found early on most of the other signs suck, and that one made fighting so much easier. I like how it really doesn't tell you anything at the beginning (it took me like an hour to realise I could change signs, you only get told how potions work well into the prologue). Also, once you get used to it the combat is pretty intuitive and fun, it gets a lot easier once you get into it. I found the start impossible but have finished the prologue and started the next bit and now I don't die to 2 people every time...

The story, so far, seems really good, the characters come of realistically. Really enjoying the game.

Never had a problem with 2 people, but like 3+ is just... stupid since you have to roll around like an idiot. And i dont have the shield sign yet, only aard and i think i just got igni. So i know about potions and signs and whatnot, besides i've completed DA, DA2 and TW on hard so i doubt it's too hard, im only complaining about you have to play like some anime ninja for 10 minutes to kill 6 normal enemies, thats just annoying. Add to it that certain enemies does "cleaving" attacks for 5+ seconds which means you cant poke anyone in the group of enemies for that time makes it again even more annoying since you just run around and look for an opening. Atleast as early as i am now, it's nothing short of stupid. On May 18 2011 09:54 Shauni wrote: I take it you don't enjoy games like Demon's Souls... I enjoy a challenge for sure, but is it challenging to dodge around in a circle for 10 minutes to kill 6 normal enemies or is it just plain annoying? Many fights are like this but i dont know if you recieve passive parry talents like in the first game later on, that might help immensively. And i have everything on low with my i5 2500k 8gb ram HD 5770 OC:d, and it just runs like a pile of garbage for whatever reason. If i bump stuff up its the same so i doubt its my computer, driver issue or the game needs some serious patching. And if u cant parry mid slash, whats the point of having it really when ninja dodging is just way more responsive.

Therefore, you gotta hit and run. You gotta set traps. You gotta use signs effectively. And yes, block is kinda useless right now, but I'm sure they will fix it. Dodging is also kinda stupid. But the game is still new, I'm sure they will do something to make it better.

You can only use potions in the meditation screen and for that you obviously need to be in a non combat area. Edit: Some people say that uninstalling 3d vision drivers did help them. Anyone knows something about this? Edit 2:LOL. I just found out that textures are so shitty in my game because I enabled Texture Downscaling at high.

And if u cant parry mid slash, whats the point of having it really when ninja dodging is just way more responsive. Dodging puts you out of combat range, Parrying does not. Read your opponent and parry, then counter. Dodging is for fast and tactical repositioning vs several foes. Not being able to parry mid slash is not an error, but simulation of reality.

I have a very similar machine (actually slightly slower) and it runs extremely well on High settings for me. And if u cant parry mid slash, whats the point of having it really when ninja dodging is just way more responsive. Blocking actually works very well in the game, it just takes up part of your energy bar. So sometimes you'll get confused and wonder why block isn't working. It is because you can only block when you have energy. You also get the talents that allow you to block in 360 degrees pretty early on. The game starts you off with Bombs, Traps, and Potions for a reason: you are expected to use them to get through the start of the game on hard.

I also don't particularly like the fact how useless parry can be when fighting larger #'s cause they have angles on you that make it useless. It's realistic in that since, but from a gameplay perspective it makes the system useless in larger #'s and you have to rely on mashing roll and doing 1/2 2 stab hit and runs for 10 minutes. Anyways I've only completed the prologue so as the systems become more second nature and what not I may change my tune. Changing from mouse and keyboard to 360 controller already made a huge improvement on my control. I had to do the same thing for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, 3rd person melee fighting is just more natural to me on a controller I guess.

And i dont have the shield sign yet, only aard and i think i just got igni. Weird, I think I started the prologue with all the signs (though it didn't tell me I did). Maybe it's cause I'm on medium (can't actually remember what I chose) or because I imported a save from TW1.

And I have to say, I fucking love this game! First, the game is gorgeous. I'm running it on high because ultra is not as smooth but still, it's just so beautiful. Characters and environment are incredible and when the last RPG you played is DA2 and all those recycled caves, the contrast is even bigger (btw, that troll/employee from BW on metacritics is just so funny^^). I'm not very deep into the game but so far, I love the "role-play" part of the game. The dialogs are cool (Geralt has such charisma...) even though the French version is a bit disappointing depending on the character. I cannot judge the storyline yet but the fact that there are already a lot of choices that have an impact latter on makes me so happy. The combat system now... I did not play TW1 so I cannot really compare but so far, even if I'm more a BG type of player (space to stop time and play strategically), I like it. I tried to play on Hard right off the bat and I have to admit, I struggled a lot until I realized that I had access to all signs (+ meditation actually). The tutorial is a bit weak on that part and that fact that you cannot display keyboard settings in game does not help. Shield + stun is just an awesome combination: shield, kill weaker enemies, roll, shield + stun, kill the big guys. Works wonders :D Another thing that helped me is that I was pretty much only using the strong attack thinking "hey, it deals more damage no?" but against big guys with 2H weapons, the quick attack is just so much more effective. guess that it is only going to get more challenging/strategic when I will unlock new skills (plan to go deep in the magic branch :D) and I cannot wait for boss fights! Not disappointed in the slightest so far and it seems that CDProjekt is going to take on BioWare's thrones and it's deserved.
