For anyone that wonders how well they can run the game. I will give you my specs as a reference. AMD 6core 1090t @ 3.6 HD6950 2gb 8gb ddr3 edit: 1920x1080
Runs on Ultra with uber shaders disabled at 35-45fps outside and 45-55fps in caves/dungeons.
Game is great so far. Biggest improvement to me is the combat. Its very fluid and streamlined now. The camera is also way better. I use my xbox 360 controller to play it and that works great too.

The big review sites dident get a prerelease copy thats why there are no reviews out yet and might take some time.

Try not running it on low. That's the best thing I've heard, I LOVED Arkham Asylum because unlike most games like it, it didn't feel like a chore to fight, it was actually the highpoint of the game. Just as happy every time I saw enemies run towards me. yeah batman AA was awesome. one of the best games i played in the last 2-3 years and def the by far best comic game ever. anyone has expirience how it runs on a 9600gt/similar level card? will take 1-3 weeks till i get a new one and dunno if maybe delaying playing it is worth it if it would terrible now.
Combat really isn't anything like Batman AA.
From what I've seen so far, with maybe 3-5 hours of playtime, the combat's actually a little tedious =/
Might change as I get more used to it though, dunno,

Not sure how I feel about the new combat system- it feels like a clumsier version of Arkham Aslyum's, and it doesn't help the first bit if you make one wrong move, you take a hit for 50+ damage, whereas you have to pile on the strong attacks to kill the knights.
Also, I severely dislike having to meditate to take potions. It feels really freaking weird, and all it does is add an extra level of annoying. Also the tutorials seem worse, and I had problems figuring stuff out, and I played the first game through on hard, and I know where to find information.
Oh, and way too many button mashing events. It worked for Resident Evil 4, but good grief this is getting ridiculous. That being said, it looks great, and I'm sure I'll get used to the new combat system soon enough.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Cannot wait for it to get here!

Prologue spoilers:
+ Show Spoiler + Did anyone FAIL hard and die like 50 times to the dragon part (where hes shooting flames from above)? ;-;
The combat system is more hack and slashy. It feels nice, but it better add some more combos and depth by the time the game goes through ;p.

The combat is supposed to be more realistic. Getting surrounded kills you, you can't block from all directions and you need vigor to parry - even if you do some weapons / foes will go through your defense with sheer power, dodging doesn't make you invincible. It makes sense and is great, because combat is rewarding - you need to think, use tactics, plan ahead and combine items, alchemy, signs and swordplay. Which is also the reason you can't drink potions during combat - you don't have the time to sheath your sword and empty a bottle when somebody swings at you.
I don't want to offend anyone, but any person not satisfied with the system doesn't understand it and simply sucks at it. Every single RPG game out there is a cakewalk nowadays, Witcher 2 is the first RPG since the second Gothic and Night of the Raven that is difficult, at times - and poses a challenge. The only difference is that W2 isn't really hard when you learn how to fight properly.
|
Or I have my individual opinion?
I find combat is a bit nonresponsive and overly clunky- Geralt often does stuff I didn't want him too. Also, I'm sure you can drink from a bottle without having to sit down and go into a trance. In fact, I'm pretty sure it'd be about as easy to drink from a bottle in combat for a Witcher as it would to sit down and stare blankly. The game doesn't simply make you drink potions out of combat, it forces you to sit down meditate. Is there a reason this couldn't accomplished by pressing a potion while out of combat? It's really realistic to say "Hey guys, wait a second, I have to go into a trance and drink so potions, I'll slit your throats afterwards."
Sorry, but there's a difference between realism and just stupid. A lot of things could have been made more seamless while maintaining the exact same experience. And I couldn't care less if you think I'm terrible at the game.
*I like the game, but from what I've played thus far, it seems to have its share of issues. Although crashing isn't one of them, so that's a step up from the Witcher.
|
man this game is fun, especially love the combat system, also finally a "normal" difficulty setting that actually means normal difficulty, and not "only for droopy eyed armless children" difficulty. combat reminds me of gothics aswell, which is probably the reason i like it. get people behind you, youre dead. only flaw so far is, a bit too much action, not enough roleplay =/ oh also, it crashes a lot (like every 2-3 hours, usually on opening up menus)
|
Playing on anything above easy is still easy (nothing runs as fast as you so you can kite infinitely) but feels silly to me and takes way too much time to kill stuff. I haven't figured out how to swordfight effectively on normal, it's just way too unresponsive and everything kills you in 2 hits.
Also I remapped combat to LMB - weak, MMB - strong, RMB - block. Try it, it feels nice.
2nd edit: Block-attack-roll seems like a nice combo on normal. I'll try adding the quen sign.
|
I have found that using Quen sign is more or less essential when fighting multiple enemies. It lets you charge in and deal a couple of blows without having to worry about taking damage. Focus on taking out the weak guys first.
When there's only one or two guys left Aard becomes really good. I usually do a two hit combo, then aard, then switch opponent and repeat. It lets me stay on the offensive without much of the running around and kiting shenanigans

Yes I don't understand how it works. And the game makes no try to teach me. It just throws alot of enemys at me, usually in big groups. So I keep running in circles spamming fire and ocasionally stabbing someone in the back, because any try at learning the combat system by actually fighing a group ends in being surrounded and clubbed to death into long loading screen. On the other hand duels are usually a nobrainer aswell because the AI ist just silly and does not defend properly.
While I don't mind abusing AI in most games for extra fun, in Witcher 2 so far it is just annoying and ruining immersion.

Anyone have mouselag? I have enermous amounts of mouselag. Disabling Vsync gets ridd of some of it but not all, it's pretty much ruining the experience im having so far. The smoothness=0 doesn't change a single thing.

I think its a bit strange how every discussion is about whether the combat system is good or not: The combat is only a minor part of the game guys... But personally I kind of like this more realistic approach... You exchange blows, and some mistimed attack will cost you your life, just like in reality. It's not even comparable to shit like Assassins Creed when you can hold a mouse button to parry against all enemies at once and occasionally click to kill.

Prologue spoilers, need some help.
+ Show Spoiler +Ok, so I'm pretty bad at this game. I got to the part where I'm escaping the prison and met up with Aryan. He says he's hurt so I have to go on ahead to take care of the baddies. However, I go ahead and dispatch the executioner, but there's nothing left in that room? I see an opening that looks like I'd be able to climb to reach, but I see no button action to jump up there or anything.

+ Show Spoiler +There's two paths to take. One leads to the executioner and there's another that will let you advance once you clear that guards.

The first 3 hours or so of the game is mostly combat, and some of the fights are not exactly trivial. Compare that to how the first game opened- you could be done with Kaer Morhen in maybe 30 minutes, and about 10 of that was on non-combat stuff.
