I kinda saw this coming really. In the end of Demon's Souls it was a really unique game where it was full of people just leveling PvP characters dicking around, which was monumentally fun. I guess in a new and big game like this that kind of situation couldnt and probably shouldnt exist. Kind of a shame really. It's all a much more friendly game, multiplayer wise. Wait.. did i just say dark souls was friendly... On a side note.,Dont do what i did with my second character and hit the Female Merchant in the aqueduct. Pretty sure that 100% fucked my entire game over. Oh well.

They talked alot about more multiplayer, but so far all i can tell is that theres way LESS. The humanity system really gimps things, and ive yet to be invaded by a single person, or be able to invade anyone and co op just a mess. Can you even play with a person you know? I know it was an issue even in Demon's Souls I haven't tried but I hear some major issues with super small server sizes and such. I suppose they had to change some things since this game is probably 100 times bigger. Add to this there are difference between covenants that effect "close" people are to others online and such. I guess I dont really understand what they changed enough yet to judge but it all seems strange. I know Dark Souls is primarily a single player game, but Demon's Souls had such a giant cult following because of its multiplayer, and it would be a shame if this game doesn't follow in its footsteps. Yes, you can play with people, to a certain degree of course. The original Demon's Souls had a co-op/invasion system that utilizes "Soul level match pairing". Meaning, in order to be co-op/invaded, you have to be in the proximity in someone else's Soul level range (+/- 3 level proximity is what I'm doing with my friends online right now, although it could be greater than this). If you're having trouble pairing with a friend, just tell him to put his Soul invite in a place only you would find. If you're still having confusion with "humanity", there's 2 things. There's humanity as a drop rate/anti-curse stat and then there's humanity as a "Living" tag when you reverse hollow.

Not quite sure about the other platforms but you definitely can't do that in PS3, as I've tested it right now and I can't find the options to do the task. Just restart the game and it should be auto-aligned with online mode.

Yeah, if you mean after you've actually turned on the game and are playing it, then no, there's no option to change that; if you mean after you've started a new file, then yeah, whenever you turn on the system it will auto-detect if you're connected or not.

So even if you try your hardest you just cant pair with a person of your choice. That could be true but you have to consider it at a developer's point of view as well. Having this setup fixes something Demon's Souls was riddled with, Hit confirm lag. It was that lag affected multiplayer performance. Hit confirm lag in both PvE and PvP in Demon's Souls were very noticeable. By having a smaller/faster setup, you could somewhat mitigate that problem. Secondly, the point of the game is to not give you any kind of comfort or long term companionship. Playing with a friend will only deteriorate the artistic experience that the game wants you to have, which is to have a sense of loneliness, desperation, perseverance, brief companionship with strangers and sense of great achievement. To be honest, playing with complete strangers without knowing their skill set or strategy is very enlightening because I see many innovative builds, weaknesses, great action and utter stupidity. If you really want to play with a close friend, just place his/your Soul invite in a place only him/you would find.
