And regarding the DLC: Is there going to be a competitive advantage for players who get it or will it not matter? Right now everyone's just speculating and assuming unlocked weapons will be better than the ones already in the game.
I've read in a developer Q&A that the guns are being designed specifically not to be overpowered or provide any advantage, they are only there to "expand your arsenal" but of course we won't know for sure until we see them. )
Does it even matter if they are overpowered If it limits you from an entire playstyle? If the pre order flash suppressor is "essential for close range recon" and is the only "Flash suppressor for snipers in the game" then how can you justify it being an exclusive?
Anyways here is a video that explains a different point of view.If they pull this DLC exclusive stuff in the US then I will be protesting in so form or fasion. Maybe I won't get the game maybe I just won't buy the pre order so companies have no reason to think pre order DLC increases sales numbers.
Letter 2 addresses the BF3 DLC issue but letter 1 is relevant
It's getting even better. First you vote for parties, which create laws discriminating against download retailers. Then you rip them off. And of course you are the victims and not the companies.
uh snot, I'm pretty sure it's not forced by law... in fact I think it's actually the opposite. Certainly the reason is the retail chains in australia pressuring publishers a bit, along with the publishers wanting to make bick and mortar sales, because that looks better to investors. I honestly think steam would very much prefer to ban the practice, but their policy has always been to let people set their own prices and do as they wilst, which is admirable even if in this case it kind of sucks hairy monkeyballs.

You know you're paying the exact same price in germany as you do in australia?
No they're not. Australia is the most expensive place for games in the world.
I think people are not understanding that digital distribution is forced by law to mark up to retail prices, just so our retail industry can stay artificially competitive.
If you're from US, buying X from Steam costs you $60. If you're from Australia, buying X from Steam costs you $90.
Same digital file, no delivery of any physical item. Purely a discriminatory price based on where you live. That's what we're complaining about.
You said you have to pay $80 to buy BF3. That's almost the exact price they are charging for BF3 in Euros, namely 59€.
Just sayin, I have preordered BF3 box-version in Czech (with all DLCs, big poster and BF3 dogtag with my nickname and realname -> example HERE) for 1048CZK, which is 43€ or $60. You guys have very expensive games

Still looking forward to this, but damn am I sick and tired of digital distribution sites charging Australians so much more for EXACTLY the same service, just so our overpriced retail industry can compete. It's just ridiculous.
Steam charges $90 USD in Australia for Black Ops. Im pretty sure BF3 would of fallen under the same crappy price scheme.
USD used to have a lead over the AUD. Very similar I'm guessing to the CAN$. So the prices got setup that way a while back .
Only difference is that since there's almost never a "Canada" region for anything, we end up having to pay in USD. Have to say... I can't complain when I pay less for games today than I did 5 years ago.

Yes, I admit it's actually better than we usually get.US price seems to be $60 so we're getting overcharged only 30%. We used to pay 95-100 for a PC retail release, but it's been so long since I actually went to a store to buy a game I'm out of touch. Maybe the currency is starting to trickle through.
Still, 30% is plenty much. especially given our dollar is now worth more, so 80AUD is actually worth something like 85 USD.
I saw it on /sp/ (the only board without a bunch of children with asperbers generally) so I didn't think to reupload it to somewhere else. Whoops haha.

They sort of did the same thing with BC2 - Preorders get 2 free unlocks free or something like that. Anyone else has to grind for them normally (not a big deal though).
Also I'm fine with more weapons even if the stats are relatively the same.
In BF2 I used a few weapons (EU exclusives for example) that were actually worse than most unlocks (stat wise based on BF2wiki) just for fun.
Though in BF2 Special Forces - The RPG-7(?) was a bit overpowered (the projectile moves twice as fast, it reloads twice as fast, and it has a slightly bigger damage radius. Though it lacked a way to guide the missile but did I mention it reloads twice as fast and the projectile moves twice as fast >.>?).
I wouldn't mind having that in regular BF2 though (It'd be kind of overpowered though).

10% off all around sale, and put in this promo code when you pre-order and you get an extra 15% off. Awww yeah.
It's really tempting, but last time I bought a game from D2D it was....Frustrating. I installed it, but couldn't find the executable (Game was Empire earth 3, i believe).
