We could use one of these for skyrim.

So whats the unique thing that sets this game apart from other single player rpgs?
|
Because of all the whining about how dissapointing skyrim is going to be, here is something to cheer you up. Careful tho, its written by a guy called "POOP_ON_YOUR_FACE"... (reddit)
This is the best game ever. I played all the major JRPGs in last 20 years and all the major WRPGs and this game Skyrim is by far the best, its a game changer. I have already played it none stop for 3 days(42 hours on gaming in 3 days).
Before you bitch at me to downloading it I the collectors edition on pre-order and fully paid off. So I couldn't help my self but download it.

Well to be fair, poopfeast420 always asked the best questions in the GSL.

The immense open world and having the option of doing whatever you want. Also, I always thought the first person aspect always fit really well and was pretty unique. (I don't play many rpgs though.)

Good gods, a mispost. I was reading EU3 thread at the same time and posted it in the wrong tab.

So, I'm trying to build out the character I'm gonna make when the game comes out, and I could use your guys advice. So i'm definitely going with a Dark Elf, and I'm staying true to the characteristics and going to be a Stealth Mage. In terms of my focused skills, or major ,or whatever you wanna call them, I definitely am including Destruction and Sneak, but I am then lost on what else to choose, and how many to choose. I understand you can eventually level up all of them but I'm looking to balance my character and not go too much or too little.
Some of the other skills I was thinking of is Illusion/Alteration/Light Armor. Not really knowing what kind of skills will be in the former 2 categories, it's hard for me to make a good call there. Does anyone know if Illusion/Alteration will have most of the same skills as Oblivion or are their significant differences? Any help or input is greatly appreciated. Can't wait!

Spears are awesome man, I used it on 50% of my chars, that is why I am so disappointed they are not in Skyrim. First of all they are good because they govern endurance, which you will want to get +5 every level up to get highest possible hp in end game. Same thing can be achieved by spending money on training too though. Now for the real benefit: It makes the fights depend on your own skill rather then ingame skill. If you have decent speed and athletics and spears with long range and learn the timing when you can hit opponents without them hitting you, you can kill them without getting hit. High speed and athletics also makes it easier to dodge spells and arrows. As for medium armor, I think Redoran guard, Orc and Indoril are the best looking armors in the game but that is a matter of taste I guess. Heavy armors are without a doubt the best.

If it is like Oblivion, then Light Armor will reduce your spell effectiveness (not as much as heavy), so you might want to level Alteration and keep a Shield spell on you at all times. I saw a perk that makes self shield spells like 2x effective, so it might be good. I think Illusion and Alteration will be more or less the same though.

I don't know if it's nostalgia or not, but Morrowind for me was leagues above Oblivion in terms of quality. It just had a better atmoshpere, world, settings and almost everything else. Level scaling was the worst thing in Oblivion.
I really hope Skyrim won't be too much like Oblivion.

What do you mean it will reduce my spell effectiveness? And yes, I saw that alteration, perk, very cool, they even have a spell that can make your spells last longer (which is nice for me haha).

Based on other posts and releases, it sounds like Skyrim is a bit more like morrowind than oblivion was, and at the very least, the leveling system isn't the same as oblivion's, so hopefully you can find relief in that XD.

I would love to see spears (never played morrowind). But that sounds really fun and almost like a third combat style =), oh well, maybe next TES, but probably not XD

he means that you dealt less dmg with spells when you wore armor eg.
The problem with spears is that they are a weapon meant for usage in large numbers and formations. That you could abuse them in Morrowind by running backwards all the time is not the slightest realistic and imo kinda game breaking.

Wowwww . . . my lack of researching anything for Oblivion is really effecting me now. I had no idea that you do less spell damage with armor on . . .I'm blown away haha, i feel like such a noob XD. But great to know!

Just mod it, you can have all those things :D.. I remember in Oblivion there was some mod that added like 50 new spells into the game that made you feel like a freaking god. They were pretty game breaking broken but the effects were so cool you had to mess around with them for a while just cause. Just turn off mod when your done feeling freaking awesome.

Will the skill system be as awful as it was in Oblivion? I've tried to find an answer to this before posting to ask but I failed. :/

Seriously, i want to be able to finalize my character so i can start playing as soon as the game comes out. Your wish is my command... Skill trees: http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/lzl70/skyrim_skill_trees/Racial features: + Show Spoiler +Argonian: natural resistance to diseases, breathe underwater, call upon Histskins to regenerate hp quickly.
Breton: quick and perceptive grasp of spellcraft, boost resistance to magic, can call upon dragonskin power to absorb spells.
Dark Elf: noted for stealth and magic skills, naturally resistant to fire, can call upon their Ancestor's Wrath to surround themselves in fire
High Elf: strongly gifted in arcane arts of all the races, can call upon their Highborn power to regenerate Magicka quickly
Imperial: skilled with combat and magic, get more money when they find gold, can call upon the voice of the emperor to calm an enemy
Khajit: intelligent, quick, agile, good theives due to natural stealthiness. can see in the dark at will and have unarmed claw attacks.
Nord: resistance to cold and "famous as talent as warriors?". can use a battlecry to make opponents flee.
Orc: smiths are prized for their craftsmanship, heavy armor orcs are among the finest in the empire, and are fearsome when using their berserker rage.
Redguard: most naturally talented warriors, have a hardly constitution and a natural resistance to poison. They can call upon an Adrenaline Rush in combat. (we're playing as a Redguard)
Wood Elf: make good scouts and thieves, no finer archers. Natural resistance to both poisons and diseases. They can control animals to fight for them. And seriously guys, this consoles vs pc talk is getting annoying. IMO, consoles are for convenience, and PCs are for customization and better performance/graphics. Playing on consoles is a very respectable decision, as not everyone has the patience and/or money to build their own PC or mod the game. If you have fun in the game, PC or console, then that's all that matters.
Theres a link for the skill lists and what they're like. The skyrim format has an actual skill tree that rewards for you how many points you put in each skill. Similar to fallouts style in the sense that you add a chunk of points across a variety of skills, or you can focus on one if you want.
