Am I the only one who thinks this game looks amazing? From someone who has played the series since daggerfall, I think this game looks fantastic. And not just by comparison to itself, compared to other games as well. I don't recall any fully open sandbox world look as good as skyrim, console or PC.
The only legitimate concern i have is for it being 32-bit only. And hopefully the PC version has pretty good graphics options, and not a tiny console "low, high" setting. I'm with you, I still think modded Oblivion looks great! I think people are mostly upset about the way it looks relative to other games and upset about the fact that it hasn't improved as much from Oblivion->Skyrim as Morrowind->Oblivion or Daggerfall->Morrowind. It still looks great, being completely objective, but it's definitely not the "number one omfg revolutionary graphics" game that morrowind and Oblivion were for their times.

I would now like to admit that I put 200 hours into Morrowind and at least 250 hours into Oblivion, and I have never finished either game's main quest.
These games are like crack cocaine, except it's a one-time charge of $60.

well, the graphics isn't as next gen like oblivion was. But it is still quite not bad, personally I find now that you can browse around all the items make it all the more impressive
|
The game has to scale to the 360, there is no room for a revolutionary jump (Morrowind was on the original xbox, Oblivion on the 360, Skyrim also on the 360). We'll see how it looks fully tuned on PC, but because it has to scale down to the 360, I'm not expecting too much.
And yeah, they're great games, although I'm not sure how anyone can relate Morrowind to Oblivion too strongly -- there was much more to do in Morrowind.

Question to anyone who watched the streams: Are cities in their own cells that you just enter through a gate or is it like in Morrowind where they are open? What are the size of the settlements? Is it more like Morrowind(4 cities, 20 towns, 5 forts, 5 ashlander camps) or like in Oblivion(9 cities, many single houses or really small 3 house settlements)? Please no specifics just say which one it resembles more and spoiler if you want to write more. ty

Can anyone tell me how much of a difference the race perks will make? I want to make a destruction focused caster, but I don't really feel like playing as an elf

Yes, as far as i saw you have to load to get into cities, altho you can still see the area outside the city unlike oblivion so it looks way better. Havent really seen enough to answer your second question, but i thinkits something in between morrowind/oblivion.

The skill bonuses. Will not having the extra 10 destruction end up being a big deal, or is it a fairly minor thing?

I'd say it saves you some time lvling it up at the start, but I if you dislike the looks I'd really recommend just starting a different race. On the other side, if you play in first person it doesnt matter what race you play does it?:p

I want to like this game but it seems like the combat is still pretty much the same as Oblivion That was so boring for me in that even though I really tried to like the game I just couldn't.

I'm totally going to make a bad ass red guard! and name him the human tornado! he will be so badass!

Long story short hes right in that if this is like previous elder scrolls games the starting stats help a bit and make it easier at the beginning but they dont break you later in the game if you want to play a non-optimal race. Also you can use birth signs to offset/help you at the start, dont forget about those!

So ya! I havent ever played any of these Elder Scrolls games but all of this hype about Skyrim has me intrigued. If I pick this game up, will I enjoy it without having played Oblivion or Morrowind? The only sandbox games I've played were Fallout and GTA, both vastly different from these games.
Any insight would be awesome!

I hope those skill trees are fake. If they aren't there is literally nothing stopping you from making a heavy armor thief. -.-
edit: lol it makes even more sense to go heavy over light for a stealth character because of the reduced fall damage.

Any insight would be awesome! If you enjoy Fallout, and the TES setting appeals to you, you'll definitely like it. You don't have to play oblivion or morrowind to enjoy skyrim/understand the story.

Why would you say that, I dont think there is any information how how armor effects it but Im guessing there is a MAJOR noise penalty from wearing heavy armor. Im pretty sure the noise reduction perk is aimed specifically at wearing all light armor vs wearing cloth to differentiate between a caster-sneaker and a rogue in light armor sneaking. I could be wrong of course but I highly doubt the creators are idiotic enough to allow full plate ninjas. Its tough to say at this point due to lack of solid gameplay mechanic information.
Btw this is a far better source for information than some reddit kids squiggly lined trees... http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_V:_Skyrim

I hope you're right. But from what I remember in oblivion the noise penalty worked on the weight of the armor, and since there is a perk that makes the armor weightless...
Ahh I hope im just overeacting. Still the fall dmg reduction being in heavy rather than light is pretty stupid.
