I hope those skill trees are fake. If they aren't there is literally nothing stopping you from making a heavy armor thief. -.-
edit: lol it makes even more sense to go heavy over light for a stealth character because of the reduced fall damage.
Why would you say that, I dont think there is any information how how armor effects it but Im guessing there is a MAJOR noise penalty from wearing heavy armor. Im pretty sure the noise reduction perk is aimed specifically at wearing all light armor vs wearing cloth to differentiate between a caster-sneaker and a rogue in light armor sneaking. I could be wrong of course but I highly doubt the creators are idiotic enough to allow full plate ninjas. Its tough to say at this point due to lack of solid gameplay mechanic information.
I hope you're right. But from what I remember in oblivion the noise penalty worked on the weight of the armor, and since there is a perk that makes the armor weightless...
Ahh I hope im just overeacting. Still the fall dmg reduction being in heavy rather than light is pretty stupid.
It says it weighs nothing and doesnt slow you, that doesnt mean it doesnt make noise, simply that it doesnt count against your total weight allotment or stamina loss while running.
Edit: sorry I should be more clear, your judging a brand new game based on a much older games mechanics and making assumptions...even though they've shown that they have reworked or outright changed alot of the major mechanics
Edit edit: here ya go, from a bethseda person himself, obviously not spoilering gameplay explanations but Im pretty sure the guy wouldnt tweet outright lies
I have never played any elder scrolls game and Im downloading Oblivion right now in preparation for release of skyrim, any tips for not screwing up my character irreversibly the first time?

Yes: please download Morrowind and play that. It's a lot better game, you might be disappointed with Oblivion and give up.

I chose daul wielding because there are various attacks in there to help avoid damage aswell as it being kool. The stealth is self explanatry. The light armour perks help mitigate and avoid damage all together when in close combat. The Enchanting perks are because with fast hitting dual weilding weapons you will be able to total 4 enchants on your weapons proccing constantly.
The stealth and archer perks are self explanatary. I didnt get armour because i intend to avoid taking damage all together so i went into pick pocketing to get extra bag space since armour will weigh in. I chose alchemy so i can poison the enemys so they take maximum damage before getting to me. Also the illusion perks are so i can cast fear on enemies that are too close to me.
Im completely undecided as to what i want to be lol

Kind of tempted to.
Is it possible to finish Oblivion? From what Ive read background info from oblivion will be there for fans of lore while playing skyrim but as its in a different area of the world and 200 years later I dont see anything critical being missed if you just pick it up without completing Oblivion.

i'm definitely skipping out on playing oblivion again to refresh. frankly, i just don't want to. I felt it was a little tedious.

play the game through for at least 10 hours-ish and get a feel for most of the stuff you want to try, then remake your character
not sure if this video's been posted in here yet, when i first saw it my first thought was the same as everyones: "ha ha fat girl screaming !!" then shortly thereafter i was like oh, i had the same reaction when i saw the video

Yeah, to kind of go off what others are saying, im sure there still is a noise penalty for heavy armor. There is only one trait (that I found) that affects heavy armor noise, and that would be the sneak tree where "Noise from armor is reduced 50%". There is literally nothing in the heavy armor tree that effects noise, only weight (which doesn't matter for noise), and there's no way to increase the noise reduction to 100%, therefore, there will still be a net louder noise with heavy armor.
Plus, why would you wanna be a heavy armor thief anyways . . .doesn't look as cool =P

I feel bad for not completing it. But Bethesda cannot do good RPG mechanics to save their lives. It is always distracting and bad.
Also they can't draw females. Every woman in every Bethesda game is a transvestite.
Could somebody explain what aabout the combat makes people so hateful towards oblivion?
I for one absolutely love having epic back and forth bow fights in places with little cover. Also playing a full spell user for the first time ever, and Ive never had more fun killing shit before.
So please....help me understand why the fighting is so bad it makes you not want to even play the game?

The worst thing about Oblivion was the leveling system, really.
That said, combat in Oblivion was pretty unimaginative. Melee combat was pretty much based on block > powerattack attack, block > powerattack attack against light armored enemies, and just running circles and light attacks against heavily armored enemies. For random NPC trash and monsters that didn't use blocking at all, block > power attack to stagger > power attack and repeat was pretty much all you needed. The combat had very little variance and flexibility, so you pretty much ended up doing the same combination of very limited moves over and over.
Then there's the problem of assymetrical scaling. Depending on how you built your character and what stats you grew, enemies would easilly outgrow your damage scaling as you leveled with their health scaling, making fights into slugfests where you'd need a minute of random slashing to kill even the most basic of enemy. This is very much linked to the leveling system of course, but it did very negatively impact combat.
Ranged combat (both magic and archery) was extremely repetitive and not very challenging. Against melee opponents, you'd be able to kite indefinately as long as your character was fast enough. Against ranged opponents, the predictability of their targeting made avoiding damage far too easy, which pretty much trivialized this aspect as well.
Now, whining's all good, but what should they have done to fix it?
I did try a combat system overhaul mod for a little while. I can't recall it's name, but basically, it added new moves in shield bashing and kicking, as well as damage linked to combat "unpredictability", meaning if you kept varying your fighting, you'd get better results. This led to a far more dynamic experience, so it was far better than the vanilla. Something like this, where variance would be rewarded to encourage people to break out of "winning combo segments" would be a great improvement over how the Oblivion system worked.
For ranged combat, I'm not sure. Some more variable attack options would be interesting, such as slowing or blinding shots to give more utility. A targeting system akin to modern shooters with hit locations with various effects would be nice as well - shoot their legs, and they'll be slowed. Shoot their heads, and they won't be hitting you much. Shoot their arms, and they'll drop their weapon or shield. Something like that would make ranged combat somewhat less mindnumbingly monotone, at least.
While what I've seen from Skyrim so far is promising, I don't feel they've done much to overhaul the combat system. Will have to get my own hands on it to make a proper assessment.

JUST KIDDING HUGE FUCKING DEAL SO EXCITED
Fucking true. I've seen every interview/gameplay video about the game. Been a huge fan of both this and the Fallout series - also one of the few single player games worth spending time on. And replaying roughly 5 times each.

You mad?
Anyways I was more referring to if it is worth the time to install and get trough the slow start of the elder scrolls game. If it isn't it's just a waste of time. But if people say i'ts worth it I might pull trough the start.
