a bard you say?

That wasn't any act of God. That was an act of pure human fuckery.

I've been having the itch to explore Skyrim as well, so I started a new game, my breton summoner. With my mod setup, breton starts at 40 carryweight and it puts pretty big pressure on the whole set of survival mods, as I can carry so limited amount of stuff. Need a couple of levels to get a point in smithing to be able to make bandoliers to ease that pain.

I want to get back into it, but I remember modding still being a huge hassle even with nexusmods and the boss thing

Downloading Frostfall and iNeed through Steam now. This should be interesting.

Steam workshop is hassle-free bro. I'm so glad they added Skyrim to the workshop to spare me the annoyance of downloading a third party program like Nexus Mod Manager.

that feel when you spend almost a whole day installing and getting around ~200 mods working pretty well (no crashes, pretty decent framerate), then get bored when you start actually playing the game and quit.

You should learn to use either Wyre Bash or Mod Organizer (ideally both). It'll probably still be a huge hassle, but using NMM with anything more than a small number of mods will lead to a huge hassle + constant CTDs and mods just not working due to not being installed properly.

Modding Skyrim is basically just another game on it's own. Some people like to play it, some not so much.

Steam Workshop has a limit on mod sizes, so the good stuff aren't on there.

I'd have to disagree with you; there are plenty of great mods you can get. I myself have almost (only?) 50 installed, including Wyrmstooth, which is a new world space / main quest.

But stuff like complete graphic overhauls and such are not included.

Steam workshop for skyrim is rly poor.
Nexus is a must have for modders.

I'm not familiar with how steam workshop installs your addons, but the big benefit of Mod Organizer is that it virtualizes the mod installs, so NOTHING is installed/messed with your actual Skyrim installation files, so adding/removing mods won't permanently fk your files like they will get fked if you don't use somet app that virtualizes it.

Workshop lets you "subsricbe" to mods, which will then be downloaded and enabled when you start Skyrim's launcher. The files are physically stored inside the game folder and when you unsubsricbe a mod you don't like, it most likely just disables the ESP file. It also doesn't sort out the load order automatically, which can and will cause issues when running Skyrim with more mods than one, especially if those mods alter same records in the game files.

As others have stated here, taking the little time and installing fresh Skyrim along with Mod Organiser really saves you from future headache. A beginner friendly guides to Skyrim modding and using Mod Organiser can be found over at S.T.E.P. Feel free to ignore the DDSopt guide found the page, unless you plan on squishing every last bit of performance you can. The Main guide, called S.T.E.P contains list of mods (and how to install them) meant to improve your vanilla Skyrim experience, including UI and bug fixes (which there are a ton!), increased graphics and in some cases stability of the game. 95% of the mods on the list are standalone, and you can freely pick which one you want to use. Just following the guide will get you nicely started.

Make people think they will lose, bluff if needed. People want an easy victory and will not attack if they think they will lose.

AND use BOSS, its easily the best to see compatibility between mods or why are mods crashing your game
