I messed around with one of their early releases (back when all the npcs were naked), but I didn't realize just how ambitious Skywind was. those textures, those original compositions, that voice acting... wow

I'm mostly curious about the voice acting. It's one of those things where amateur work can be really easy to notice, imo the biggest issue with some custom folllowers are bad voices/accents, and it's almost as present ingame as bad music. Even some official releases have terrible voice acting and it really hurts those games.

I totally agree with SKC, I dropped follower mods just based on how bad their sounds meshed with the game.

Bethesda work is still far from amateur level shitty. Some of it isn't exactly state of the art, but it's still something where you can easily see the diference between someone who actually does voice acting and just some random modder.

It's also the quality of the recording and how it simply sounds so out of place from the rest of the game. Production issues. I mean clearly the modders won't have the same studio equipment as the devs, but that's a really sore point for me on some of those mods that had voice acted followers.

What mods should someone use who plays the game for the first time?

I downloaded the Legendary Edition and haven't played a single second, but I'll have a couple of hours to spare next month.

Keeping it simple, of course and not completely re-doing the game.

SkyUI is definitely a must. Other quality of life mods you might consider are lightweight potions and poisons, improved containers, improved skill books, quest markers (there are several of these for crimson nirnroots, dragon priest masks, etc), mine details, a lock picking mod that improves the interface, etc etc.

You might consider some of these cheating (lightweight potions/poisons) or want to discover certain things on your own (quest markers), but where you draw the line is completely up to personal preference.

Improved containers tells you what is in the container (of reagents, of produce, etc) so you don't have to waste time opening each one for a few apples. Improved skill books has the skill the book improves in the title so you don't read them too early on accident (using skill books to get from 99 -> 100 skill is a lot more efficient than getting it when you're at novice skill). The lock picking mod adds marks so you can remember the exact location where you were picking (for the extreme lazy). Mine details will tell you what ore is in the mine so you don't have to travel to each one and check it manually.

SkyUI is pretty good, and you can't go wrong with the unofficial patches.

Wyrmstooth is a great quest mod that integrates very well into the game with (mostly) good voice acting and lore-friendly content, so it preserves the vanilla feel pretty well.

Guys, i have a major problem! Whenever i die, game crashes. I did almost everything but still no clue, they say its all about mod order but mine is fine according to BOSS and LOOT. It happens sometimes randomly during gameplay but very rare compared to death crash.

Its legendary edition, i use mod organizer, realvision enb and some top mods. If you can fix, i can upload my order or prepare a vanilla game according to your advice.

First of all, create a new character in a fresh save dir.
You should also properly uninstall everything and then install it again for extra safety, you can skip this if you feel lazy.
See how your game behaves with this new save/character.
This is cause regardless of how you play around with mods if your save is corrupted then that's that, close to nothing you can do about it.

So, see if your game is stable with a new save/character and a clear uninstall/install for now and then get back at me.

if you're new to modding skyrim, follow that for making a clean, working base installation and you can also grab the mods it recommends if you like, they're all minor adjustments or fixes to the game.

Yea there's a ton of reading there, but better make the hour or 2 investment at the start of a save, rather than have it get corrupted 50 hours in (it might anyway, but less chance).

That as well, running BOSS or LOOT doesn't come close to just reading and figuring out how they should be by yourself. Reading where the mod author's tell where their mod should be in relation to other mods or general load order, what type of mods should generally be loaded last and all that, it takes time to read and understand, but after that you'll see why BOSS or LOOT at times does a pretty bad job at sorting your mods. Even if they don't technically do it wrong, they might do them in an order you wouldn't prefer.

I finally got around to playing Moonpath to Elsewyre and it's fantastic. I also played through the Thieves Guild quest line (all as a Khajit thief, of course), not to mention Moon and Star. Very fun. I'm planning on doing a bard character next with maybe the hypothermia mod using a warrior-type companion to accompany me town to town.
