I personally recommend Mighty Magick; seems to scale pretty well, changes the perks to make more sense, and adds a lot of new spells. Complete crafting overhaul and Smithing perks overhaul are very good mods but make sure you get Sharlikrans Compatibility versions to help them mix well with a lot of other useful mods like Better Sorting. Weapons and Armor fixes is now included in the Unofficial Skyrim Patch which I also highly recommend. Fixes all kinds of annoying bugs all over the game. I wasn't aware Balanced Magic was no longer up to date, I've had it for so long haha. I'll give that Magick one a try, thanks!

But once it was disabled i was forced to walk and always found new shit in areas i have already walked through 5 times in a row. Problem was that i never arrived where i wanted to go since i am apparently easily distracted. But that's always the best part about Elder Scrolls game anyways. You load up the game, say "Hey let me get this main/Dark Brotherhood/Thieves' Guild quest done," realize you've been playing for 3 hours and haven't done anything to do with what you originally set out for, because you found some cave or keep or dungeon or quest that took you in a completely different direction. I recently picked Skyrim back up with the DLC and some select mods, after not having played it since shortly after release with no DLC and no mods. Still having fun!

My character was in Morthal, which is very close to Mzinchaleft, the Dwemer ruins where Grimsever is. Not 30 seconds after I began my short hike there, I saw a mudcrab. I'm an Alchemy whore, so I went to cut it down, and I saw a standing stone in the distance that I hadn't discovered yet. I wandered over to it so I could put it on my map and continue to Mzinchaleft, but from the Apprentice Stone, I noticed a few more mudcrabs. Once I'd slaughtered them, I saw shack hidden in some nearby woods. Traveling to the shack rewarded me with a corpse of some dude and a now-ownerless dog. ![]() I haven't gone to Mzinchaleft yet. This is my story, and yours as well. Meeko! Best dog ever :D Sad story: + Show Spoiler + One time I was playing a no-deaths no-loading-old-saves character and I accidentally killed him with an arrow. I literally had to stop playing the game for a while.

![]() Restoration should have a spell that lets you revive a dead companion one time per character for events like those. Not some grotesque, shambling zombie-dog, but just bringing Meeko back to life. I'm sure there's a mod like that somewhere, but having it in vanilla Skyrim would help out the Xbox/PS3 players, and avoid complications for PC players using the console to resurrect. R.I.P. Meeko~

Regardless, if you purchase any of the DLC, you ought to get the corresponding "Unofficial Patch" for it, from the Skyrim Nexus. The DLCs are, in typical Bethesda fashion, plagued by bugs, and the Unofficial Patch Project seeks to fix those problems. Even if you want to play an unmodded character, I'd recommend getting the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, as well as the patch for any DLC you might buy. /endsalespitch
