your skill in that school will determine how many charges you get out of it
if you have perks that increase damage of a certain element, then it'll increase the damage of the staff as well
staves are like the only thing you can't craft, which has always struck me as strange
typically i do not get much use out of destruction staves, because they can't be dual casted (i think)
the only staff i use regularly is sanguine rose, because casting a master level conjuration spell with 542345903 charges is pretty sweet

I didn't know I can meet Cicero before the Dark Brotherhood questline. It pays to troll him by turning him in. XD

My family ended up pitching in and got me this game as my Christmas gift yesterday. :D Whats sad is I was just getting really into Morrowind (Oblivion seemed ok but very ugly even vs Morrowind to me lol) but either way I don't care this games freaking beautiful. Loving the mountain settings, didn't realize how big it all looks when your actually playing.

You can "craft" staffs at the atronach forge below the mages college in Windhelm. You have to find the recipes for different staffs though, found only one yet (staff of the frost atronach), but of course I forgot where.

I just got this for christmas and I am so excited to play it!

Man I really didn't like the first tutorial bit for this game I don't know why but I preferred the Oblivion opening.
and + it's really strange to hear about things in Cyrodil while in Skyrim

You find him by some cart with a broken wheel and he asks you to get some local peasants to repair it for him.

Accidentally walked into a giant on my way to kill some thief guy and I was amazed that the shouting thing I get as a Nord makes the giant run away, was so happy I got to kill one....then I got cocky, fast traveled back to Whiterun to take on that one next to the town, slept for a day so I could have my shout thing back and what do you know, I creep up, shout and start killing the giant and as hes almost dead a 2nd giant hits me from the side and I die. TT Those dudes are so dead when I don't suck so bad at this game.

I read the other build thread but I want to know which skills and attributes should I be focusing on. And what armor I should wear etc. thanks for the help guys I'm a wood elf as well. I should've probably focussed on archery as elf speciality but i went onehand/block . An useful tip for those who fight close combat and/or use the fps camera, you can change the FOV in the console. Just open console and type: fov number (i find 110 to be great fov for the first person camera). I have a question, why does my trap a soul spell not work? I tried it on orcs and thalmor agents so far and each time it said i don't have a gem big enough. WTF? I had greater sould gems and grand sould gem as well.... It pisses me off to always have to spend money on soul gems, they cost a lot. Humanoids, including dremora, have black souls. Only black soul gems can contain those. Daggers have very short range and even when dual wielded, their attack speed is about the same (if not identical) to a single wielded dagger unless you have the dual wield perks. It would be better to dual wield swords or any other decent length weapon. Dual wielding leaves you hugely vulnerable, and the tradeoff isn't really worth it imo. Notice that I chose the elemental protection perk under block - that's the best way for a non-mage to block magic. The Lord standing stone adds 25% magic resist and 50 armor as well. Dual wielders tend to get owned hard by enemy mages. So, yeah I'd have to say sword and shield.
Thanks for the information!

Dualwielding daggers makes you have 60x backstab, though, which is enough to kill almost everything (normally 15, 30 with dark brotherhood gloves, and that x 2 because u have 2 daggers)

One quick question: Is elven armor the best light armor in the game or is another armor better? I haven't found any other type of light armor except for hide...
Edit: Oh, and does whirlwind sprint only have one word of power?

Look at your smith skill. There are higher levels of armor than elven.
There are also some unique armors that do not fall under regular categories out there as rewards for questing.

Not true, only certain humanoids have black souls. I fill non-black soul gems by killing bandits with the Mace of Molag Bal all the time.
Well maybe the newer patches are different, I'm playing on 1.1.

AKAIK All humanoids have black souls for sure, including your run of the mill bandits and other mobs.

*shrug*
Just saying I don't think I've ever had a black soul gem on my toon that has the Mace and I've been able to fill non-black gems by killing humanoids with the Mace.

Maybe it works with non-Imperial, non-Dremora, non-Argonian humanoids, or maybe it's a (good) bug
