I have the same graphics car as you on my laptop except I have 16 gb of ram and it runs smoothly (1920 x 1080, ultra) for me. So it shouldn't be the video card atleast.

On November 15 2011 04:54 Kimaker wrote:+ Show Spoiler +Okay. After playing for about 12 hours, letting the "wow shiny" wear off, and actually sitting back and taking the time to think about the game here are my conclusions:
1. This is a good game. On it's own this game is incredibly entertaining to play and I'm likely to get more that what I paid for in terms of cost/hours of play (typical with ES games).
2. This is NOT what I wanted/expected. It's good, very enjoyable and all that, but it doesn't feel like an RPG. It feels like a medieval version of bioshock, like an incredibly detailed and open hack and slash game. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is concerned with combat essentially in some way. What's more the lack of classes and the classic system of skills and attributes may seem new and intuitive, but quite frankly if I wanted to play FO3 I'd play FO3 and not buy an Elder Scrolls game. Just feel like we're forgetting our Pen and Paper roots here.
3. Spell casting has struck a happy medium. YAY! I don't have insta-regenerating magicka like in Oblivion, but I'm no longer required to sleep in order to get it back like in Morrowind! Also, spell casting in general is now much more interesting (in a combative sense).
4. Spell casting is still only good for one thing. Combat. Where are my mark and recall spells? Jump spells? Levitate? I figured these would finally come back, but no, I'm once more disappointed.
5. They have sensible fast travel! They integrated Fast travel into the lore and world of the game through the carts making it a part of the world as opposed to a part of the game. Not as aesthetically pleasing as the Silt Striders, but it makes sense given the region we're in.
6. They still have retarded "click here I go" fast travel. WHY!?!? It's not clever, or seamless, and it's really just a lazy crutch for the mainstream console audience.
7. Cinematic combat finishers are fucking cool. That is all.
8. Cinematic combat adds nothing to the game. It's just a gimmick that I quite frankly, after the first few time it happened, just got old. I find myself going, "Come on, get on with it." more and more.
9. Selection of "signs" and such has a cool base concept that they pulled off well. This is a new sort of character customization that I'd like to see explored more. 10. The opening was utter crap. It was super epic, and then every quest is super epic. WTF. One of Morrowind's strengths was that it did such a good job of making the action and excitement crescendo. I went from clearing out a lady's basement of rats to slaying a Mad God in the heart of his fortress/prison with a number of legendary items that took me 50 levels and nearly 100 hours of gameplay to get. That's a mother fucking crescendo. In Skyrim, I killed a Dragon at level 4, after being thrown into the action at level 0. Where's my down time? In Skyrim I feel compelled to do something big and bombastic. Why? I want choices, I want tabula Rasa. Morrowind: Go to this city, have fun! Nothing big. Just you entering the world. Want to go there? Feel free, but there's nothing in the way the game's story was crafted PUSHING me in that direction. It's a choice, just like it would be in any other RPG. That's what I got so far. I'm sure I'll get called a Morrowind Nostalgia-fag but I don't particularly care. This game does not do it for a hardcore classic RPG fan like me, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. Here's to Skyrim ^_^
I feel really the opposite to the Skyrim story. Yes, there are dragons flying around the world (and if you're playing on one of the higher difficulties, they WILL mess you up) but there isn't anything really forcing you to do the main quest, and Dragons aren't nearly as annoying as Oblivion gates.
I feel like the reason most of the skills are related to combat is that otherwise they just don't feel relevant enough for most people to invest in over combat skills. In RPGs that stick to a more d20-esque system such as SW:KOTOR, half of the skills are just useless to get. Why would I want to disarm bombs when I can just run through them and heal it? Why invest in repair when all I get (really) is an extra character, and in return a really weak main character?
I do wish there were more non-combat spells, though...yet in Oblivion mysticism was only useful for obtaining souls. Otherwise it was mostly gimmicky stuff and detect life which felt poorly implemented.
I feel like Bethesda did a really good job of designing the skills and spells so that everything feels important, and decisions of how you invest your perks actually matter. There isn't a single best build as most of what you do is going to be good, but at the same time most of the skills aren't throwaways that anyone can see should just be ignored. Perhaps you could argue that pickpocketing and lockpicking aren't useful, but because of the removal of "Open" spells lockpicking is very relevant for most characters if you want to get rewards and such, and pickpocketing (while undervalued at first) is very very very profitable and worth investing in.
EDIT: Regarding Fast Travel, Morrowind is actually the odd man out as far as Elder Scrolls games go. Fast travel was in Daggerfall for sure and I believe Arena as well. Recall spells would be nice, but a flavor way of explaining fast travel is that you ran there or rode your horse there. If you notice, in-game time passes when you fast travel just as if you had actually walked there.
Levitate spells are problematic because cities are contained within their own cells. Would it be incredibly awesome if I didn't have to load to get into cities and I could jump into them? Of course! At the same time, however, I can understand that it makes for an overall better experience celled in. The cities feel much more alive than in Morrowind; even the cities in Morrowind that had plenty of NPCs in them had a ton of people with the same repeated text for most questions you asked them. Instead, this time there are tons of NPCs in cities and most of them have at least some quest associated with them or started by them.
In summation, I am one satisfied customer

I Love the game so far. unfortunately i only have the pirated version since it hasnt been released in greece so far (only through steam and i want my old fashion boxes. had actually preordered it but cancelled. i am definetely getting it when it comes out though). i have a winXP q9550 gtx280 4gb ddr3 3year old system no upgrades since then, and it runs perfect. i set everything to very high and tweaked some .ini settings for better shadows and i have no drops no nothing. mouse has problems on the vertical axis but thats about it. anyway the mouse guidance system for melee combat lacks in this game which is understandable. havent had any crashes to desktop, any glitches, anything rly for atleast 30 hours of gameplay (i am lvl 20 with spending lots and lots of time crafting-exploring etc). i have a heavy armor 2h/1h (yeh i know its bad to share traits but i prefer it this way) with alot of smithing and speech(i need this trait for selling anything to any vendor you want). i believe 2h is underpowered comparing to what i have read in these forums and others. you go through tens of potions and you have very few damaging moves, but your constant dps is great. however when i face mage bosses i have to isolate mobs to kill them. like earlier today there was this dungeon with a boss with frost drgon shouts and a minion who summons frost beasts. i had to give 1 power attack then hide and regain full health and repeat 10 times to get him finally.
i have one great question. i found the 1h expert in whiterun (armen was his name) and i was able to boost my 1h pretty easy. i make tons of money of smithing and exploring anyway(got a house aswell:D). where do i find the same guy for heavy armor and 2handed? any ideas?
also a comment on enchanting. i have picked up some really nice items but they wer elight armor or just below my current gear. i disenchant and then when i enchant the same ability instead of 10% magic resist it is 1%. how do i make it equal? i got a great gem (greater) but this one still only gives me 4%. i got an axe trait to fill souls on empty gems but i only get petty souls for that even beating difficult monsters. any ideas whats up with enchanting? i enchant pretty much everything i got and recharge regularly so without investing any traits i am at 40. should i put some points there? are the results noticeable?
also, when i buy the official game, will i be able to move my savefile? or will i have to start over>? sry for the wall of text game is awesome. only played some morrowind skipped oblivion (was in my mmo phase)

As far as I can tell the skillups don't do anything by themselves. It's the access to the perks that increases your power with them. Just having 90 skill doesn't do anything inherently, but taking the perks (that you need higher skill levels for) does so.

Skill Levels are basically just there to get you perks.

Are people interested in some kind of mod-guide where I show links to stuff I recommend?Right now I'm running improved Shadows (which actually improved performance too, trollol Bethesda), a memory fix removing most of the 4-5s lags in new areas, the FX tuning linked above and enhanced night sky. k, I'll get on this sometime tonight. Gimme 12 hours from now. =P
It's so insane, but there's awesome stuff already out which fixes most of the stuff Bethesda failsauced a little bit.
If anyone is running mods where he feels like OMG THIS IS SOMETHING YOU MUST HAVE, please feel free to PM me with links to their original source. I think I've got most covered, but you never know. Apparently there are e.g. some russian and chinese fixes to the freeze issues most people have, but I have no way of getting to them.

Warrior skills increase damage, and you have to have higher spell skills in order to use higher skills (Expert level destruction is only usable after level 75 destruction (I think, going off of previous games)). Of course all the skills need to be a certain level for perks.

Am i the only fan of fast travel??
I mean cmon its like the greatest invention EVER! If you don't want to use it the fuking DONT USE IT!!! I dont see why people are griping about it. I have spent 46 hours in this game so far and I feel like I have barely scratched the service in terms of what I can still do and all the available quests and storylines. If fast travel werent in this game I would still be on the fourth of fifth quest. I love to explore and when i feel like a bit of exploration I just don't use fast travel. I mean why do people feel the need to bitch about something that they don't have to use. If it was forced onto us then yeah gripe away, but you ahve a choice!

I am completely able to run Skyrim pretty well on low settings, with actor fade being bumped up a bit for gameplay purposes. Framerate does drop a bit in areas that are crowded or filled with tons of lighting, but it's still very much playable. It's still a gorgeous game even on low due to its incredible lighting.

is playing around with a bow a bit rather than concentrating on pure magic going to hinder me at all or is it ok to be a bit of an all rounder?
i was wearing leather armor for a while, but then some iron armor that had more armor on it dropped so i decided to use it, is there any bonus in using lighter armors or do i need to invest in perks to get any bonus?
im playing a nord, is the starting bonus for each race in different areas just a starting bonus i can just train past, or does each race level up faster in different areas? I'm level 19 right now, only because I'm sick. I promise, ask my gf. Once you get magic robes you'll wanna drop your armor completely anyways, they have really good bonus's like 25% and higher magicka regen. Bow is really useful for any class. I see lots of mages using bow for sneak attack criticals, and then finishing them off with your spells. If your using spells as your pimarry offense, it really won't hinder you all that much. Starting bonus is just that, a starting bonus. Most important is your built in frost resistance, how I envy you nord's for that. I'm an Imperial sword and board guy, I end up drinking resist frost potions when I fight against ice breathe dragons, even with a 15% frost resist shield.
I am lvl 34 and dont use bows or robes. Instead, I use heavy armor with the 5 perks to increase the armor value and the other 25% extra value. Even dragons barely hit you at all with this set up if you add block with it.
I play an Orc with 1H Swords (%100 damage increase + %25 damage on standing power attack + %critical hit) and shield and so far, I just throw myself with berserker rage which reduces the damage taken and greatly increase the one I give and I kill the bigger dragons in 3 blows.
To mitigate the damage from magic, I use the shield elemental resist perk with the Mask that reduce all elemental damage and even the dragon's breath deals barely anything before it dies. This build is insane.
