Does anyone know why enchanting items basically ruins them? If I want to put enchantment on my flawless orcish armor, is defense rating plummets from 92 to around 65, and the price drops from 1700 to 600ish...how do you actually improve the armor with enchanting (except obviously by gaining a new stat on the item? Is this governed by the level in enchanment and perks?

It's really stupid when things like that happen, I'm so pissed that I now can't do most of the quests for the Jarl. Before he was talking about earning his respect so I could buy a house there, but that's definitely not going to be possible now. Someone suggested joining the Thieve's Guild and have them remove my bounty so that's probably my final option. Haven't even been to Riften yet though.

Ya its really dumb too because I already got the quest reward... he gives it to you before you go outside, so now the choices are get that bounty and complete the quest(that i get nothing for as far as i know) or just leave it? It makes no sense. W/e i guess gold is easy to come by.

Okay. After playing for about 12 hours, letting the "wow shiny" wear off, and actually sitting back and taking the time to think about the game here are my conclusions:
1. This is a good game. On it's own this game is incredibly entertaining to play and I'm likely to get more that what I paid for in terms of cost/hours of play (typical with ES games).
2. This is NOT what I wanted/expected. It's good, very enjoyable and all that, but it doesn't feel like an RPG. It feels like a medieval version of bioshock, like an incredibly detailed and open hack and slash game. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is concerned with combat essentially in some way. What's more the lack of classes and the classic system of skills and attributes may seem new and intuitive, but quite frankly if I wanted to play FO3 I'd play FO3 and not buy an Elder Scrolls game. Just feel like we're forgetting our Pen and Paper roots here.
3. Spell casting has struck a happy medium. YAY! I don't have insta-regenerating magicka like in Oblivion, but I'm no longer required to sleep in order to get it back like in Morrowind! Also, spell casting in general is now much more interesting (in a combative sense).
4. Spell casting is still only good for one thing. Combat. Where are my mark and recall spells? Jump spells? Levitate? I figured these would finally come back, but no, I'm once more disappointed.
5. They have sensible fast travel! They integrated Fast travel into the lore and world of the game through the carts making it a part of the world as opposed to a part of the game. Not as aesthetically pleasing as the Silt Striders, but it makes sense given the region we're in.
6. They still have retarded "click here I go" fast travel. WHY!?!? It's not clever, or seamless, and it's really just a lazy crutch for the mainstream console audience.
7. Cinematic combat finishers are fucking cool. That is all.
8. Cinematic combat adds nothing to the game. It's just a gimmick that I quite frankly, after the first few time it happened, just got old. I find myself going, "Come on, get on with it." more and more.
9. Selection of "signs" and such has a cool base concept that they pulled off well. This is a new sort of character customization that I'd like to see explored more.
10. The opening was utter crap. It was super epic, and then every quest is super epic. WTF. One of Morrowind's strengths was that it did such a good job of making the action and excitement crescendo. I went from clearing out a lady's basement of rats to slaying a Mad God in the heart of his fortress/prison with a number of legendary items that took me 50 levels and nearly 100 hours of gameplay to get. That's a mother fucking crescendo. In Skyrim, I killed a Dragon at level 4, after being thrown into the action at level 0. Where's my down time? In Skyrim I feel compelled to do something big and bombastic. Why? I want choices, I want tabula Rasa. Morrowind: Go to this city, have fun! Nothing big. Just you entering the world. Want to go there? Feel free, but there's nothing in the way the game's story was crafted PUSHING me in that direction. It's a choice, just like it would be in any other RPG.
That's what I got so far. I'm sure I'll get called a Morrowind Nostalgia-fag but I don't particularly care. This game does not do it for a hardcore classic RPG fan like me, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. Here's to Skyrim ^_^

ok with some mods and some tinkering, ive managed to improve my frames drastically. its not 60fps or ultra, but i can live with it for now.

So I was wondering about forges. Does the forge you use have any effect on the quality of items you make? Like if I use the skyforge in whiterun will the items be any better than say if I use the normal forge in whiterun or the forge in riverwood?

I've an extremely newb/basic question:
What effects do having a higher skill rating for some skills do? I mean i know what it does for thief skills (sneaking is more effective, pickpocketing/lockpicking easier), and I assume warrior skills increase damage?, but what about destruction/conjuration/alteration/illlusion? like for destruction, it doesnt seem like having higher skill adds damage..only use for having higher skills is to unlock more perks.

Yeah I use windows 7 to, have you checked your frame rate to see if you consistently get 60 fps or are you just going by "it feels smooth"?
