Well there was Knights of the Chalice released a few years back, and it's great. Turn-based tactical combat at it's finest. And I don't so much care that ME isn't like Wizardry or something, it's just that I don't like my action games slow and boring. Maybe if there was some tactical depth, but eh. It's one of those game series that are not terrible but the only really good thing I have to say about it is the music and the atmosphere at times.

Dragon Age Origins came closer to a "real" RPG than what we have had for years. It wasn't quite Baldur's Gate, but it seemed to be what BG would be if it was programmed today and made many many people happy. Than we had ME2 (which came a bit later if i remember it right) which had forsaken almost all RPG roots of ME1, but was still a good game if you like shooters with a bit more added in. But many people were deeply disappointed. One year or so later Bioware released DA2, which frankly didn't even come close to being as good as DA:O. To be honest I like Mass Effect and the way these games feel, what i cannot really forgive Bioware is what they released as DA2. Also they get a lot of flack because they advertise ME to this day as a revolutionary RPG game. If they were honest and advertised it as a shooter with some RPG elements they would have far fewer problems with the die hard fans who still hope they make pure RPGs.

If they make DA3 I hope it will be more like it meh da:o was good but i never understood the hype around it. maybe its because of all the "omg look, they wanna revive BG style of games!" pretalk that made me expect way more then i got in the end. didnt even care enough to fully finish it in the end. but ofcourse DA2 was jsut utter shit. it was a good business decision since they could just print money with a unfinished, rushed and at best average action game. but ofc fully deserved all the hate it got. ME3 i dont know. i liked ME2. its a well done game that is at top level of what it wanted to be. didnt expect much, ended up really liking it. but im in no way holding my breath for ME3. also i fully understand and support the day1 DLC complains. its a ripoff and nothing else. those companies got away with bullshit overpriced crap dlcs for years now and are just trying to push it further. be happy that there are people that atleast try to stand up against that.

Anyone with half a brian though know that's just a random promise to stem the tides.

I agree that Dragon Age: Origins was a lot better, but I have to disagree that Dragon Age 2 was just a money grabber. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and many others did as well.

Well okay, maybe it isn't. Still, I wouldn't put any money on it. Bioware isn't really a developer I have trust in.

But the basic combat system and setup was pretty much a classic party based game. That is what many fans are missing nowadays. Note that is obviously fairly off topic, as i said, i don't expect to get similar combat systems from ME games even if i might like it :D

I do not even know why I enjoyed DA:O so much, nor do I know why I enjoyed DA2. But I did. I guess that is good work on BioWares end. But comparing the Dragon Age franchise to the Mass Effect franchise is IMO a bit stupid. They just are completly different from each other (apart from recruiting your allies and leading them into the battle hat decides the fate of the world blablabla). For me a "real" or classic RPG is anyway not the turn-based kind but the third-person real-time kind simply because I started playing videogames with Gothic (a german RPG series). So arguing about the good old days isn't very helpful because most of the "younger" gamers (myself included) have other good old days. To stay on topic: Does anyone else have the problem in the multiplayer demo, that if you host a game it seems that no one can join even though the game is public. And if so is there some way to fix it because it is truly a pain in the ass to find a game if you are just two or three.

I had issues where I couldn't join friends' games, but once I opened the proper ports, which you can find in Bioware's forums, I had no trouble connecting to their games or inviting them to mine.

The problem is not connecting to a friends game but random people seemingly not beeing able to join a game I hosted. I tried opening ports how it is recommended on the forums but it seems something doesn't work properly on my PC. I hope the matchmaking will be smoother in the final game because playing the MP is a ton of fun. It would just be so much easier if people would join our games because finding a game where there are 3 slots free is hard...

Also joining games that a friend has entered seems to be bugged a lot. It says game is full or can't connect so many times when one of us wants to follow the other even though there are free slots. Can't tell how often we've tried to find games when there were two of us and it hasn't worked because we can never follow. I really hope they fix all that crap before release cuz that shit is really ruining the multiplayer experience. Been trying to make this work for hours now...
