EDIT: Also added some info on requirements to play on the server. If you have any questions just toss me a PM. We have systems in place to deal with your non-TL friends/family wanting to play and other scenarios. There will also be no whitelist and you guys should be able to log in the second the server goes online and already be set up with access.

Definitely rebuilding the "hi grack" sign, someone griefed and destroyed it on the old server. Hopefully the main town will still be named Grack.

Sounds like Serejai is kindly building houses to live in and wonderful monuments to gape at. The surface world seems to be already occupied with awesome. What's left to do? Open and close doors? Wander around and punch sheep? Live underground like mole people? That's the least exciting part of minecraft... Is this like a server with a community of people that idle? Then boo.

That's why these preconceived structures only serve as a feature, not a dominating presence. Utility buildings, if you will, such as train stations and shops and stuff. The player is, of course, free to construct whatever he wants. The cities and towns are there for a number of reasons. Firstly, they stand as havens from the night when the player has not established himself yet (nighttime is meant to be a great deal more harrowing to survive than on your standard server). They allow the player to equip himself with supplies or a means of transportation between different hubs (the world is a pretty big place, after all). And of course, the sense of atmosphere helps. Removing all sense of creativity is hardly the goal; the player is encouraged to do as he sees fit, as was the case on the last server. You seem to be under the misconception that the surface is already built up everywhere, which is definitely not the case. The vast, vast majority of the available land is ripe for building; the towns and monuments take up a very small percentage of the world's landmass. There will be much more to do than open doors and punch sheep, believe me. And yeah, Tuxide is a monster. Ambition and insanity rolled into one, that guy.

I had typed out a nice five paragraph reply but I decided to scrap it to say this instead: Yes. The only thing you will be able to do on this server is close doors and punch sheep. Landmarks and Why They Matter I felt I should tie in a quick explanation of why pre-built structures are on the server and I'll start with the world - it's massive. In fact, were you and a friend to find yourselves on other ends of it... there's a chance you may never meet up with each other. This is where some form of assistance comes in. Thankfully, the choices are abundant here and I will go over them all. 1) Moderators One of the easiest solutions to the problem of uniting friends comes in the form of moderation. On most servers you can simply request that a moderator or staff member teleports you to your friend's location. Simple, effective, and fast... but not really what we want here. To explain this, I need to explain something else... 1a) Legit/hardcore Servers Many servers throw this term around, yet very few actually follow it up. You see, this is meant to be a true legit/hardcore server. There is no hand-holding here. Starter kits? No sir. Moderators helping you clear an area? Think again. Most servers that claim to be legit or hardcore will actually bend the rules for you if you throw some cash their way. Purchasing or donating for perks such as free blocks, items, teleport commands, flight, and various other things that give you a physical advantage in the game is quite common. You're not going to find that stuff here, which is why a moderator will not teleport you to your friend. 2) Warps and Teleports This goes along with what I just mentioned above. While it's convenient to have warps set up at different areas of the map, or to allow multiple /home locations or the ability to teleport, you really can't consider yourself a legit server at that point. These aren't options, either. 3) Maps No, not the shitty in-game map. High definition, isometric, real-time maps with constantly-updated player locations. This is one of the ways you and your friend will be able to locate each other; you just have to be prepared to hoof it the entire way. While this is a great resource on it's own, it's not always viable for people on slow connections or with a single monitor. That's why we use a second system... 4) Landmarks This is the single easiest way to keep players from being overwhelmed on a large map. By having multiple points of interest players can use those to get their bearings much easier. Eventually, as the server progresses, players will make their own landmarks (for example in one of our first servers there was a giant Eiffel Tower, as well as a few player-made towns that many used as reference points). However, it helps to have a couple scattered around in the first week or so of the server. So, in keeping with our theme of being a legit earn-it-yourself server, there will be no fast travel options such as teleporting or warping. There will, however, be a few conveniences for you (such as the map and landmarks). Scattered across the massive world are five or six towns. These serve as the basis for, among other things, transit hubs. There are currently two major cities on the map, and each transit hub is connected to one of these two cities. To give you an example of the scale of this map... it's like a five minute train ride from a town to a city. These will help spread players out a bit (if they so choose) at the start of the server. The most important part, in my opinion, is that you're not required to ever visit a town/city at all. There will be benefits for doing so (such as the transit lines mentioned above), but choosing not to won't hinder your gameplay any. To address any further concerns about pre-built structures, I'd like to mention that the existing structures cover less than 0.5% of the map and the majority of them serve a special purpose that adds to the available gameplay (one example being a Capture The Flag pvp arena). There are no free houses for you to live in (unless you take over an NPC village, of course) and no wonderful monuments that any of you will get close enough to see in the first few weeks of the server. If you have further questions or concerns, you can join the QA on Saturday at 2PM EST in #tlminecraft on Quakenet. I will also be releasing a map of the server sometime this weekend and you can visible see for yourself how little the premade areas affect the world.
