It barely even uses any bandwidth, so that cannot be an issue. Any residential connection with over 3mbit upload will handle minecraft fine with many clients. I think the difference is in many factors here, especially availability and use of plugins. I don't know if you run a vanilla MC server or a modified one, but I doubt that you can run a map as big as this server with all the plugins on your home machine or even a cheap host. That said, the OP is also outdated a bit, I think Serejai found a slightly cheaper host now.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Minecraft requires a minimum of 1GB RAM per player when running a larger server. Each player also uses an average of about 0.5MB upload, and very few residential connections can support that. Not to mention you need dual SSDs, and fairly high end CPU. I'm running an X5770m and 16GB of RAM and the most I can support is about 60 players. Even the Curse server can only support about 100 players, and they have thousands of dollars worth of hardware for it. I'm really glad you can run your own server at home for your 2-3 friends to use, but that's not how it works with larger servers. Please don't come here trolling until you know what you're talking about.

It was really early in the morning, and I was having troubles with a stupid girl who wants to hook up with me but it's way too soon after my last relationship for me to want to get into anything and I figured instead of going and making a stupid girl blog on TL I'd just tell the bitch to GTFO and write a story about Minecraft instead. Whine about bitches, or make Minecraft story....easy pick.

Whoops. There's supposed to be a "." before that. It's 0.1 GB per player ![]() Anyway, I probably should have said 100MB per player, or something.

The creator of the zoning plugin that we use said nearly three weeks ago that he was almost finished porting it over to the new mod system. He hasn't been seen or heard from since. So, I'm probably going to have to use a different plugin with similar functionality... which will involve me manually redoing all the zones again, and will take some time. On the bright side, I'll open the Nether when 1.2 comes up. That's the official word on 1.2, waiting on the zoning plugin, or the time to find a new one, and set it up. The missing part of the server would be the [Public] [Liquid] etc. etc. zones...we don't want that ![]()
