Even doing it for 1 isn't the worst as you can still use the mana. You can "Effectivly" build your own manamorphose with that card. 2/2's are easy to kill though. Might not be a bad way to abuse with Nykthos.

Also the new 1 mana Merfolk might be better maindeck than Cursecatcher in Modern given the ubiquity of creature decks and need to draw out of flood/screw which is pretty much the only way you lose.

Hey, coming here to get the scoop on the current meta.

I started Magic a year ago and got crazy addicted and played til about July then got to busy with work to play. Now I am thinking about coming back with a more balanced approach(playing 1 time a week as opposed to 3-4 a week).

I have missed M14, Theros, and Born of Gods so 3 sets which is pretty brutal.

I was inspired to come back after seeing decks like mono-black resurface. That and Bant control were my two favorite decks when I was playing during dragons maze.

Anyways, I wanted to get a feel from some people on here of what the meta is like now a days, I really dont plan on going all out and dropping $500, I am going to sell some of the old set stuff and try a mono-black or green or maybe some home brews out. What is standard like now a days? Is it still aggro crazy, or does control have better footing?

The metagame is mostly devotion decks, UW/x control, and G/R Midrange (Monsters). But aggro is still viable I think (I'm doing fairly well with Naya aggro online)

Why is Mutavault played over Mishra's factory? Some decks can abuse that Mutavault is a member of their favourite creature class I suppose but otherwise Mishra's appears stronger.

It's a really powerful effect and ridic card advantage. The problem is getting to play it and untap with it since it doesn't have immediate impact on the board. I can see it as a one-of in Modern UWR Control maybe but you still need to live through the Nactls to do anything (and at that point you're fine with just going one-for-one and winning off Colonnades so this is just win-more). Hm. Maybe a sideboard card for Control mirrors as another good trump card to fight over.

EDIT: To be clear this is about Keranos, not Godsend.

Doesn't really seem like Godsend will fit into modern since it's just a worse sword imo :S

Sure, it helps in creature v creature matchups where your opp doesn't have removal, but that's 6 mana devoted at sorcery speed onto a single creature. We'll see, but I'm underwhelmed.

Godsend reminds of Sword of Vengeance. Amazing stats, but difficult to find a place in a deck/meta.

Yah. Godsend was editted in later

Re Godsend: It's also relevant that at 3CMC you're competing against the Mirrodin Swords of X & Y which are not colour dependent and the Pro-Colour is relevant for many decks. Godsend also doesn't let you force through token chump blocks.

I don't see why you'd want Godsend over Jitte or Batterskull though. All the TNN player has to do is not block...? And if you really need a Sword that deals with TNN I also don't see how it's better than Sword of Fire and Ice which can also ping things and draw cards while also being relevant in other matchups too. Having 1 more in equip costs also hurts. Maybe you can play one in the Board but I don't see it being the TNN killer.

SoFI does much the same thing, the difference with Godsend is can prevent them from playing another if they do chump with it. Plus it gains you more life when combined with Batterskull.

It's not like it's a slow clock.

I mean I see this argument all the time, but +3/+3 is a 5 turn clock (less because fetches) on its own when stuck on a Stoneforge. On a Batterskull it's 3 and +7 life a turn if you don't block with TNN to prevent the damage. Any sideboard hatebears are 4 turn clocks by themselves. I mean if you're blocking with delvers and mongeese or goyfs, you can't play any more of those that you draw, they're now dead. SoFI doesn't get you through a big goyf.

I mean if they T3 true name and you T4 a godsend on a stoneforge, you're winning that race.

Yeah I edited for clarity on what I was talking about. He has to have seen it, it's in the quote and I did it immediately :O

I'm currently looking at ways to see if I can't bring in the UR god to my cruel control list. Tapping out on T5 for something that doesn't immediately impact the board is rough. I think I'd need to bring in a slaughter pact and pact of negation.
