Godsend = Fetchable w/ Stoneforge and "kills" True Name Nemesis

Just sayin'.

Yeah... If someone blocks Godsend with a TNN they deserve to lose..

It's not like it's a slow clock.

I mean I see this argument all the time, but +3/+3 is a 5 turn clock (less because fetches) on its own when stuck on a Stoneforge. On a Batterskull it's 3 and +7 life a turn if you don't block with TNN to prevent the damage. Any sideboard hatebears are 4 turn clocks by themselves. I mean if you're blocking with delvers and mongeese or goyfs, you can't play any more of those that you draw, they're now dead. SoFI doesn't get you through a big goyf.

I mean if they T3 true name and you T4 a godsend on a stoneforge, you're winning that race.

Opportunity cost for this card is too high for a shaky line. The board states you are describing are very idealistic in a world of of wasteland. The question you should be asking is on turn 4 would I rather have a Jitte swing or a Godsend swing. Jitte wins most scenarios with possibly the exception of matchups like Elves when they are taking the craterhoof line.

Its lines are not better and 2 vs 3 equip is not an insignificant difference.

Jitte annihilates elves unless they have symbiote or ranger + arbor to keep you from getting counters. Godsend does actual nothing in that matchup.

Godsend doesn't race a jitte or sword particularly well. Also is pretty poor against batterskull.

Can't imagine a scenario where I'd want to tap 3 mana at sorcery speed to give +3/+3 and flavor text in legacy.

Re: shadow of doubt vs. Squelch. You can cycle shadow of doubt without targets and it hits stuff like scapeshift, teachings, gifts, flagstones, etc.
That said, squelch on their tec edge is sweet.

I'm thinking about getting into this. Which format is the discussion about? Modern? How much money do I have to invest to be able to make competetive decks?
And all is illuminated.

the past few posts are about legacy. cost of decks depends on deck and format, you have to be way more specific.

I am interested in standard mainly. Because that seems the most accessible of the non-draft formats.

Talking about the turn of the Craterhoof swing where the life saved from exile might save your from lethal.

bad? what GW deck wants a 5 drop that has no board presence? the first +1 is win more, the second +1 is the most relevant, but not sure if GW decks wants to play the grind game, and it'll never ult unless you're already winning.

I like it a lot. You're right that pure GW doesn't want this kind of card, but I've been playing junk and it's perfect for that. Voice, reaper, caryatid, courser etc. Lots of cheap ass big butted obnoxious creatures that let you set up vraska/elspeth/ajani for late game.

I'm not quite sure if this guy makes the cut, but he definitely gets close. It'll really depend on whether the format moves towards control (this guy) or midrange/aggro/devotion (vraska)

This is the list I brewed up with him. (basically the G/W +1 counter build)

4x Experiment One
4x Elvish Mystic

4x Gyre Sage
4x Voice of Resurgence
4x Selesnya Charm
2x Scavenging Ooze

4x Chronicler of Heroes
4x Mistcutter Hydra

4x Advent of the Wurm

2x Ajani

24 lands.

Still don't think I'll switch from my Naya Aggro that I've been having success with online

This is by far the most breakable card among what they have shown.

Not even close. The amount of resources needed to break that card is prohibitive unless you can get some kind of Rancor like enchantment loop going on, but who knows maybe they'll put something else out that can actually abuse it.

Finally a GW walker and of one of the best characters and it's downright unplayable in Eternal. The Ult looks like R&D gave up half way through and were like "This card needs to be 50x better than Lorwyn Ajani, so fk it we'll just take Lorwyn's +1 and make it 50x better as his Ult!" It's an even bigger let down than Emmara Tandris and Teysa. Gahhhhh =.=

New Ajani is kinda meh. I think he loses to 6 mana Garruk for decks that want what he does. Then again, Junk midrange is the only home where I think he could be playable in Standard because he can find Elspeths in addition to creatures.

Well, like I think the "no small -ability" design is somewhat interesting and was worth exploring, but the "5-mana walker that doesn't defend itself and has no ultimate to speak of" is patently useless. The fact that both his +1s rely on creatures in weak ways (sure, his 2nd +1 "feeds" his first, but he's dead if you don't have a creature on board anyway) doesn't help. He also does nothing if you are behind on board, isn't even a good win-more if you are ahead on board, solves none of the issues creature-heavy White-green decks have... etc. Straight embarassing.

They already did the "two +1s" with Alara Elspeth though. So I don't see what design space they're exploring other than "we've never written 100 life on a card before to appeal to casual players for the wow factor".

Oh yeah good point.

Actually if you compare alara elspeth to this card they are surprisingly similar except alara elspeth has arguably better versions of all 3 activations and only costs 4. And is mono-coloured.

GW Ajani seems playable.

Also OBVIOUSLY you play Master Biomancer, then put 3 +1/+1 counters on it with Ajani, then play the extra turns guy and immediately get 2 extra turns!
Then you obviously find Progenitor Mimic and take INFINITE TURNS YEAH
