The incidental hate was because of the upswing on the Reanimator deck more than the Dredge deck. Not sure what Wizards is going to do with the format though, its fun (even for someone with limited experience), it's diverse, but the upfront cost is so expensive.

Also, this was when Reanimator and Dredge became big decks "again". Legacy has always done this and always will. As soon as graveyard hate starts getting minimized in sideboards again, then the deck will pop out of no where and start winning events. It's just the way the format changes slightly overtime with the decks and their foci. If there's a deck that gets "hated out" less, it does well. Sort of like when Griselbrand-Reanimator first hit the scene it did super well because people forgot to pack any Graveyard hate, and then next tournament it fared poorly because everyone tried to jam as many Karakas/Surgical Extraction/Leylines/Faerie Macabre/etc. as they could into their deck. I feel this is also relevant... On April 19 2013 08:59 Shotcoder wrote: Edit: what does a 2/2 reach with pro blue provide you? defense from Lingering souls? I assume they've just accepted that the reserved list will always be a factor and decided to focus on Modern as their main Eternal format. EDIT: Oops, Reserved List not Ban List lawl

I'm feeling slightly disappointed by this set so far. Idk why.

And yeah DGM is rather lackluster. The champion cycle which was supposed to be one of the big features were for the most part almost entirely underwhelming (Emmara and Teysa amg). No mythic rare really pops out to me either and barely anything Eternal playable.

But yes, this set feels patchwork-y like problems here and problems there, let's try to patch them with this card and that card. Edit: I feel like Teysa had some kind of interaction that I am whiffing on that made it impossible for her to come down at least at 4 or 5 (with adjusted stats obviously).

A 6 mana enchantment that basically reads 'your attacking creatures get +1/+1' isn't amazing, I'd rather have Glorious Anthem most of the time. Those are +1/+1 counters per attack per creature. This stacks over time. ...Oh fudge. I just realized this coincides with Aurelia's ability. O_O Guys. Wizards planned this all alooooong. :-o [/conspiracy]

Trait Doctoring : Not gonna lie, not entirely sure what this card does, but if I read it right, it turns a permanent's color into something else, so it might be good in something like Legacy Merfolk's sideboard as a 1-of, as it seems like a repeatable Spreading Seas effect. Skylasher : Might see play in Legacy for creature decks decks vs. JTMS, but that's about it. Maybe a roleplayer as well for a snap blocker in Standard or Modern. Ascended Lawmage : The card I will lose to the most in DGM limited, because Wizards still hasn't learned how to properly balance Hexproof. It might even see play in other formats too; a 4 mana hexproof, evasive creature with a relevent power? At uncommon no less. Plam Capture : Mana Drain for all format.... But too expensive to see play in Legacy or Modern. Might see some play in Bant Control/Bant Ramp decks for Standard. Zhur-Taa Druid : Might make Naya a thing again in Standard, as it's a mana dork that also pings the opponent everytime you tap it for mana. Also, Second Sunrise got banned in Modern, so Eggs is now basically a fringe deck for Modern.

Skylasher I just like because Green flash creatures has always been brutal. Ascended Lawmage is my Runewing for the set, although beating down with 3/2 doesn't mean as much when you take from 20. All in all, pretty weak stuff, not a lot there and for the most part RtR lowered the overall power levels of cards. There are powerful effects, but not like Scars and ISD. As an Esper player, it seems fine, the sets impact won't be felt until ISD rotates. Aetherling will probably be my card of choice. Edit: Yes, the limited format should slow down dramatically. Wonder what that's going to do with all the kiddies at my locals.

Edit: Second Sunrise also had this added benefit of trolling the hell out of the opponent, oh you get your fetch lands back and I'll just take this pile of trinkets and repeat this again. It's like if Storm had this clause of giving your opponent the storm count's mana on their next turn, only for them to never really get to their next turn.

WotC said they banned it because it would delay tournament play. Case in point: GP Chicago in 2012. It was a decent-sized GP (something like 1200 modern players) and it was a 10 round day 1 tournament that started at 10:30 am. In theory, it lasts until like 9 PM, 9:30 at the latest. It didn't end until something like 11:30 PM if memory serves, and that was due to Eggs players taking 15-20 minutes every single round after time was called in the round. Hell, the first round took over 80 minutes because one of the matches was an Eggs mirror, and every judge at the venue was watching their play like a hawk, ready to give out a game loss cause they went to time, and were comboing off against each other in turn 0 and turn 1.

Staff of Domination is UNBANNED Trade Secrets is BANNED Just decided to pick up a staff of domination myself before they spike in price overnight. As for the changes, collusion makes any sorta serious multiplayer EDH sorta dumb, Trade Secrets just made it very obvious. Staff of Domination seems pretty busted, but they have since banned Roffelos as a commander, seems like he was the biggest offender with it.
