Go to your local hobby or card shop and ask when they hold events. Post an ad on craigslist looking for a play group. If you dont want to shell out money play the popper format (only commons allowed). Decks are like $10-$20 tops. Play online for free with magic work station. Takes 5 minutes to set up and find a game.

A Combo for Peasant MTG
I was thinking of making a Temporal Fissure Combo deck, which locks the opponent down by knocking away all their permanents back into their hands. Anybody have experience with this deck? If so how reliable is the combo?

I've been playing a lot 2~ years ago and I was pretty good, is it worth it playing again now? How expensive are the decks nowadays, what types are the most popular? General information on the meta game?

Well New phyrixea is going to be released soon. The whole set got leaked there are some uncommons expected to be 5$+, so yeah the newest set would be a good investment it has cards that will be used years and years to come.. As for the metagame.. Jace the Mind Sculpter..... Get used to him he is that good at about 100$ a pop good luck getting a play set. I like the Standard environment some people hate it (Jace) =( The limited play is great Draft or Sealed Scars of Mirrodin is a good Block. Im so stoked for the new set =)))))

To me the standard format seems a bit silly. Of course that is what WOTC wants people to play because it keeps people buying cards non stop. And in turn that is where a lot of the events are at. But from a players standpoint i dont get it. You spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars every year and have to change your deck each year. I like the legacy format. Invest $200-900 or so for a deck that is going to last you 5 plus years. You get comfortable piloting the same deck.

Standard is cool precisely because it rotates so often. Too bad it's such a money sink.

I think I'd play.. but I don't feel like installing apprentice/workstation etc just to play, magic online would be great .

I'm back to playing this game since my starcraft computer broke, and have already started building up a collection again thanks to daily events. I would just like to mention the MOCS is one of the best things in the history of things, and I'm glad to be back in with some byes, although im really unfamiliar with the format this month. My current goal is to extend my collection and to get to top 20 in QPs for either block or specialty, since I actually am not too far behind in those categories. Simply haven't been able to profitably play standard unless I borrow my friends jaces and other zen/wwk stuff, and I don't play much limited other than for fun.

Also, the pauper familiar storm deck is extremely click intensive/time consuming, since the change to 25 minute rounds, I don't recommend it for slow players or if you double up on tournaments like I do.

I'd love to play a tournament using Workstation. I don't have MTGO, so I'd only be able to play there. What format would we play?

I don't know. Since we would most likely be using a free alternative (MWS, Cockatrice etc.) all of the options would be available.

I'll see if I can edit in a preferred format poll.

Hmmm, I don't know what I want to play, then. I'm most accustomed to Standard and Limited, but I'd be down for learning a Legacy deck. My local shop is actually running an all-you-can-proxy Vintage tournament next week, so I've learned about Vintage some and can translate that to Legacy too. I'll go ahead and vote Legacy and get to learn more formats hopefully!

Well, they said it would be 90% phyrexia, not 90 percent infect

New set worries me a bit. Stoneforge got even better now that it can tutor up a baneslayer and flash it out turn 3. The planeswalker hate that was promised was kinda meh, we'll have to see about that.
Apart from that the set looks amazing. Plenty of must-haves (mental misstep, batterskull, SoWaP etc). Limited is going to become interesting again =)

I'm down for standard or legacy, standard being preferred. I've taken a liking to cockatrice lately, but MWS is fine as well.

I dunno, I think UB will be better armed to fight Cawblade now that Despise is being printed. I think you need either discard or counter spells to fight Cawblade currently, they're winning as soon as they've played the Mystic or Squadron Hawk. Your two choices in this format are either combat it (UB, RUG) or simply play the cards yourself (Cawblade, Boros). UW having access to both Jace and Gideon is pretty rough, though...

Thing is, Caw Blade is so multi pronged it isn't even funny. Take away their swords, they still have jace+gideon. Win the jace war, get beaten down by squadron hawks with swords. It's pretty sad that the only reasonable way to deal with jace is (or has been, perhaps the new set changes things) is to play jace as well.

I run Boros, but I'm not liking my chances once I start facing down batterskulls left and right. As it is now I'm already struggling against tumble magnets, endless chump blocking birds and gideon. Methinks artifact removal might almost be maindeckable once NPH kicks in.
