So there seems to be an interest for some sort of tournament, maybe we should make it happen?

Anyway should we just follow the polls blindly or come to some sort of compromise? As it looks now it would be a legacy tournament, what do you guys think?

Also, should we go with cockatrice or MWS? Or let the players themselves decide assuming they can come to an agreement?

Lastly, what kind of tournament would it be? I vote for single elimination with best of threes!

Single elimination seems fine. With luck we'll have multiple tournaments anyway

Cockatrice has a better interface, but the server is a bit prone to crashing, so playing on MWS might be more stable.

I'm down for a tournament, but I can only play on Cockatrice....oh, and I'd rather play T2, or Draft

I'm slightly shocked by the utter stupidity of both Guillaumes in this case. If you've got the entire new set spoiled as a result of one of you being a writer, I don't imagine you'd be spreading it around willy-nilly. On another note, it's also a bit off-putting that certain pros (like the reigning world champion!) get access to the new set before everyone else and can thus start brewing and playtesting before anyone else. Surely you don't need the entire godbook in order to write about a few select cards? Meh.

God fucking Bboy showed up on M-L the past few days and I swear I wanted to choke his dumbfuck head off, because he clearly did not show any sign of oh shit this is serious and Wizards will revert to their old policies after this. Luckily one of the admins just banned him, but fuck the kid is an idiot.

Yeah, I hope the few minutes of fame were worth it for him. Did he think that no one would, you know, try to verify his story when he's saying shit like working for Lotus Noir etc.

Swedish community is mainly shocked that a lvl 8 pro gets the Godbook that early. The fact that other pros are sticking up for Matignon (I'm looking at you, A. Ruel) is laughable.

"About Matignon, i do not believe he did anything wrong. Writing about new cards is extremly tough, so the help of a friend is clearly needed to share point of vue and do not look stupid when he said the best card of the set was crap (that ALWAYS happens). That’s why he asked his Lotus Noir boss if he could share the datas with Wafo for his articles, and the answer he received was positive."

How many of you actually read the article? Matignon felt terrible about what had happened, and admitted to doing what shouldn't have been done.

Also, he works for a PRINT magazine, which means he obviously needs the entire set early, so that he is able to write his articles, and get them all edited and ready to be published, about a month in advance (the same reason Video Game magazines get games a month or two early). And lastly, I honestly don't think he did anything drastically wrong, when he asked Wafo-Tapa for help. I agree with the above quote, that it can be incredibly tough, at times, to fully grasp the potential for a new card in a new set, and asking your close friend (and 2nd place to world champion) for some advice, is ok by my books.

What happened after that, is tragic. Even so, I believe that a 3-year ban on competitive play was not the correct choice of action, ESPECIALLY when abusing someone or cheating can get you only a 1-year ban. Matignon and Wafo-Tapa did nothing to affect competitive play, yet they are being banned from playing? A better course of action would be to punish the magazine company (because Matignon got permission before asking Wafo-Tapa for help), no longer giving them any spoilers for 1 year, something like that. That way, Matignon and Wafo-Tapa wouldn't have to completely change their lives and their careers (Matignon will likely never return to high-level competitive play), all over something like this.

It makes sense to ask your friend to help, but not when you have a legally binding contract to NOT tell other people about the cards ahead of time.

Realistically WotC shouldn't be giving full spoilers to level 8 pros in the first place, and they clearly needed a stricter NDA or something to discourage this kind of thing. BBoy whatever was retarded to share the spoiler on an open IRC channel, Wafo-Tapa was really stupid to share the spoiler with people like said BBoywhatever, and Matignon was stupid/naive to think he could share the spoiler with "only" his friend without it getting out somehow.

Does Matignon deserve a 3-year suspension, or does Wafo-Tapa deserve an 18 month suspension and missing out on the Hall of Fame for a year? Maybe not, but someone had to be made an example of for this. It's like, did Saito deserve 18 months and missing the Hall of Fame for slow play? He certainly deserved some kind of disciplinary action but that was a bit much. Crack down now or deal with it later, even if a lot of the blame rests on WotC.

I wouldnt mind weekly drafts, i dont think it would be too hard to get atleast 8 players a week.
As for between MWS and cockatrice they dont seem much different so whatever one is more popular seems better.

"Magic the Gathering is an immense part of my life. More than the game itself, the community of players, judges, organizers and Wotc employees is fantastic. And by my stupid actions, the game and the community has been hurt. If there is a single player quitting the game due to that leak, a single booster unsold, that will be my fault. My own fault. For someone who loves the game as much as I do, that's horrible. I feel destroyed. I don't have the words to express how much I feel sorry."

Aw poor guy

Hey guys, I was reading about some New Phyrexia release event things and found one near my area. I've only ever played with friends and a couple games online...as well as watching Celarity's stream a fair bit, so I kind of expect my ass to get crushed, but I'm fine with that. I was just wondering if I was gonna be super out of place or people might be willing to overlook a few newbie mistakes if I were to enter a draft or dueling event...

Well if anything, you gotta start somewhere. I donno what it's like where you are but often people will be willing to overlook some beginner mistakes imo, so long as it hasn't been like more than a turn. That and you gotta start somewhere I started at the SoM pre-release not knowing shit. At that point I literally just found out there were 2 main phases lol.

On another note I"m sad I can't make the pre-release

As a new player going to events the community is very nice and even if you make errors your opponent will pick up on it and kindly let you know. I am sure some of them might even help you construct decks or give you some tips. If you go in with a positive attitude im sure you will learn alot and have a good time.

The prerelease and release events are actually some of the most noob friendly events. It's one of the events that a lot of new players and casual players show up too, so you won't get any problems, enter what you want and make a good time of it, ask for help if you need it.

You should totally come to Austin instead ;(

Also I'd be interested in playing online tournaments every so often, I prefer Cockatrice since I didn't set up MWS with the latest set lol. Standard/BLOCK? seem like the easier formats for people who are newer to get into, maybe Extended?

Block Constructed actually sounds kinda interesting...

So FNM has come and gone once again, this week was our Constructed Type II. Lots of new people this week too! Had 13 people total which was pretty awesome for us. Placed 5th in a 3 way tie for 3rd.. rather disappointing to get screwed by the computer during match ups again(better people you play, better place you get in case of a tie) but that's how it goes some nights.

Ran my B/U infect deck again, been refining it since Scars came out. It is rather deadly at the moment however the next set should pretty much break it XD
+ Show Spoiler +
Deck List: Creatures
4 Necropede
4 Phyrexian Crusaders
3 Skithrix, the Blight Dragon
2 Phyrexian Vatmother

Sorcery/Instant/PW/Artifact
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
4 Preordain
1 Black Sun's Zenith
3 Go for the Throat
2 Mana Leak
2 Into the Roil
2 Tumble Magnet
2 Contagion Clasp
1 Sword of Feast and Famine
1 Corrupted Conscience
3 Jace Beleren

Lands
4 Darkslick Shores
2 Drowned Catacombs
1 Halimar Depths
2 Tectonic Edge
1 Mystifying Maze
3 Inkmoth Nexus
5 Island
5 Swamp

Sideboard:
4 Phyrexian Revoker
4 Doom Blade
2 Mana Leak
2 Into the Roil
1 Phyrexian Vatmother
1 Corrupted Conscience
1 Tumble Magnet
1 Jace Beleren

Really REALLY excited for the new set, and in my honest opinion is going to make infection competative in more then just the Standard format. Not to mention how broken Surgical Extraction is, if you don't play black you really should get these anyways. I am looking forward to turn 1 surgical extraction > inquisition of kozilek, then your turn 1 Mental Mistep your turn 1 or start with the Mental Misstep when you play first into surgical extraction > inquisition of kozilek.... I expect some very unhappy friends due to meta-game XD

Fangren Marauder
Lumenigrad Gargoyle x2
Molder Beast
Alpha Ty
Dross Ripper x3
Hellkite Igniter

Like really, how much more do I have to do.
