My shop is not hyper competitive, I smashed the last 2 weeks with W/b tokens so I am wondering if I can still win FNMs with a not quite full delver list.

3 Argentum Armor running around with this deck on my friend's modo account and been crushing modern tourney rooms haha. cost like 4 tickets (+ a few cards he already had) and it's absolutely hilarious listening to the ensuing rage. no really, what's a sideboard? step 1: put down quest step 2: put down 5 0cmc creatures step 3: attack with argentum armor, turn 2 land destruction

The idea is your sideboard gives you access to cards to shore up specific matchups but you don't want those cards in your maindeck. For example, a combo deck may want a super-streamlined deck for most games, but when it faces a deck with a lot of disruption it takes out a few cards for some protection for its combo. However, it doesn't want a lot of these cards in its deck normally since it's Plan A is good enough to win on its own 80% of the time. There's also transformative sideboards. This is when you sideboard lots of cards and swap them to completely change the game-plan of your deck. So Game 1 you do one thing, Game 2 the other guy sideboards to try and beat your Plan A and then you attack them from a completely different angle.

I should clarify that relying on 4 cards for the deck to do anything versus not playing Magic at all somehow qualifies as fun...especially when tickets are being spent...question mark...

Getting wins in a local shop (which don't really exist anymore around my place) should be a blast, and the opponents' faces priceless. I love that deck. I've been play testing the hell out of it and, frankly, it's well positioned. Somethings get your pretty good, like Revoke and...Surgical Extraction...but honestly, the dominant recursion and card advantage is sweet. Doesn't have a great matchup against Delver or Zombies, which is, sorta a problem.

If they are winning events then more power to them my most fond memories of tournaments were when I had a good idea and tried it out and was successful at fnm, not when I crushed regionals, or top 8 an event or what not with no variation lists. Those tournaments gave me a different feeling, which is awesome and the reason I grind Mtgo events often my desire for competition is fierce but it's still is a different feeling.

I like the idea. Very focused on what you want it to do and looks pretty effective at it. (*stealing for Cockatrice*) Granted, it's not flexible (Judicator's very correct here; you're messed over if you don't draw Quest), but I can see where you're clearing house with it, redtooth. ![]()

Right now that deck is playing a crappy draft deck if Quest doesn't show up, but cool that's "fun". I mean if you are going to have fun, you might as well not feel miserable the times when you don't draw the Quest.

Edit: Steelshaper's Gift doesn't produce a 2nd turn combo.

EDIT: Nevermind.... Idyllic Tutor sounds too slow, but we're trying to find ways to not have yourself messed over if you don't have Quest turn 1. Absolutely not ideal to have to go the Idyllic Tutor route, but better than nothing?...
