In Halo 3 they only had one playlist that did that for each map pack (the one that only had the map pack ones in it) until they were free (except for Mythic 2?) in the rest of the playlists anyone could play and it would just not choose map pack maps if someone didn't have them. That's the way it will work in reach as well. On October 24 2010 02:21 Autobeat wrote: I do have a lot of love for this game when its on objective variants. Never been a big fan of the straight up slayer variants but the community likes what it likes so I gotta play them some too. The map pack does make me angry though because when DLC is ready that quick after a game is released it just feels like something that should be in the game to start, but they withheld it to squeeze out the extra few bucks from their customers. I know that a lot of developers go this route and that it is sort of an industry standard by now but it just agitates me when it feels like the finished product on the disc is gimped by reserving stuff for DLC. In this case it would be the map list for MP which I feel is just shrimpy. Still a fun game though. The game goes gold about a month before release and the game is "finished" except for bug squashing a month before that. Since they started the map pack around that time it's not like the maps were held out of the game, unless they wanted to push the release back a couple months.

I had a couple amazing games in team arena last night, but it was against unranked players, so my real ranking was way over inflated (1635ish)... I think I'm just gonna grind on that for a while. I know that AyeH likes doubles over Team, but I don't share those feelings at all. I've almost always performed better in a 4v4 match than a 2v2. Maybe it puts too much individual pressure on me or something, but I think it's that my communication in doubles is typically worse. I think my communication is often lacking in most games, though, which is only expounded upon by my teammates also having poor communication in many instances. I'm quite certain that, given the lack of quality the maps contain, they could have thrown these maps together before the game was released. They're using forge for most of them anyway, it's not like they're building from the ground up.

I guess that, in some ways, doubles is better to prepare you for slayer skills. But then again, given that I typically just accept the team player role, I often have results like last night. My stats weren't amazing, but--on the Ascension game, for instance--I take on a role that will draw the other players out and allow my teammate to get kills that way. I went -3 in that match, but I set you up for some of those sniper kills, because I forced the guy out of invis, or out of a hold. I also feel like I'm better when there are no armor abilities. I get fucked up by people flying around, and armor locking and such.

I'm talking about the map pack, not the maps that were just released, those are free so I don't really see how you can be mad about them.

In what world is a game I paid $60 for free? I already paid them a lot of money for their game. I'd like for it to be of high quality immediately. Instead they push out a bunch of bullshit, and then release another set of shitty maps and force people to buy them for another $10. That is the worst argument I've seen in my life. "You paid for a game that is sold for it's multiplayer... I don't know how you can be mad that you didn't get a product you're satisfied with." Terrible argument.

Doubles arena, you can actually have 1v1 battles and even 1v2 battles. IDK, doubles has always been my favorite... Hard to get an actual group of 4 decent players. Assists are counted equally with kills though. At least in arena.

Considering the development time, and the price, this game should have at least twenty maps at lunch. Instead, the game comes with thirteen, and they want me to pay another $10 for three more. Better than Halo 3 though. That only launched with eleven maps.

I would argue the opposite, Halo 3 came with eleven maps but they felt good(well not at the time, I was upset with them all at the time lol), but if you look back.. we had Pit, Narrows, Construct, Guardian, Isolation to some extent(I like Isolation and Assembly a lot I was sad when MLG removed ISO king, but again, top was too powerful)all decent maps that I enjoyed to play on. Reach has Countdown, that is the only map that I enjoy playing on that is not from forge world, how sad is that.(I'm fond of Ivory Tower, but still think it is a mediocre map, top is too powerful, you get full control of the map sitting top, as well as full control of rockets and sniper.., just like it for nostalgia reasons) Reach has Forge World though, and that's much better than Halo 3, Halo 3 had to wait for Foundry, and then later Sandbox

And in Reach I like: Countdown, Sword Base, Powerhouse, and Asylum.

![]() Key: IS-Initial spawn T-Two-way teleporter MC-Mancannon, which leads to the island in the center. RL-Rocket Launcher on the island. I don't know what I should put there, or even if I should include the island at all. If you guys think I should change the shape/layout of the map, scrap it altogether, have ideas for weapon spawns, etc., please give me your ideas.

It's not bad at all. It's a balanced map as far as weapons, but the map is too large... most maps feel too large for me on Reach. Also, about your forge map =/, I have no clue, since I am the worst forger. I suggest just messing around with forge for awhile, make random things, then work on your map after you got it figured out.. The best thing about forge world is you can make a good map without all those little tricks and glitches you needed in Halo 3, so after a little bit of messing with the different objects, etc you should be able to make that map, it seems simple enough.. about the layout, it seems kind of like Boarding Action? just having 1 Level across just kind of makes it seem like a shooting gallery too me, there won't be too much variance in combat situations on the map you proposed. everyone just kind of shooting across at eachother. so I actually suggest making it more complicated.. keep your basic idea, but add another level or 2, maybe something more complicated than a Island, an intricate bridge system with some sub-rooms that cause close ranged combat, as well as providing cover? I'm not sure.. I would start with your project, figure out how to forge, then expand on your idea
