While 9 is a great time to dual fighters and probably the easiest, 13 will give you that extra half-attack and be better in the end game.

But that's irrelevant because what is "most powerful" is a matter of opinion. Personally, I would probably give that label to sorcerer or cleric/mage.

You can actually solo BG II with that class.

You can solo BGII with any class. I've soloed soa with a half-orc cleric/thief. I solo'd a blade too, thought I think I got bored with that one before finishing. Check the bioware forums and you can find people's accounts of soloing soa through ascension-tob with classes like totemic druid and shapeshifter. :|
That wasn't any act of God. That was an act of pure human fuckery.

Level 13 is better for end game, but that's for HARDCORE players. Why? At level 13, you will be reversed back to a level 1 mage and must get to level 14 as a mage before you can access your Kensai abilities. The process of getting from a level 1 mage to 14 as opposed to 10 is too difficult unless you have great knowledge of the game and know where and how to level up. Not to mention that you would have exhausted most of the easy experience routes by leveling to 13 as opposed to 9 before switching.

At end game, that extra half attack won't even matter with all the super weapons and super spells a Kensai/Mage got. With the potion of speed and greater haste, it's overkill.

Noobs shouldn't play a dual class anyway. Just get a fighter, a mage or a priest.

If you are playing BGT gl at level 1 with a kensai :O
fuck all those elitists brb watching streams of elite players.

This.

Honestly, min/maxing is barely relevant to an unmodded playthrough. First time through should be focused on trying to explore the world and discover as much as you can, not on cheesing your way through the combat encounters.

My only advice is if you're in a relationship with a beautiful half-elf in your party, sleeping with the dark elf prostitutes in the underground city may be a bad idea.

On the issue of companions, stay the hell away from Aerie on your first playthrough. She's probably the most broken character that isn't your own in the whole game, but dear god is she annoying.

haha i liked Aerie. Whiny annoying little kid was great I'd suggest getting ANYTHING except a basic fighter as your character, as there's not enough to do with them imo. korgan is my fauvorite npc

I should go back and play through both Baldur's Gate games again. Played then when I was much younger, when they were actually current, and I cheesed the everliving shit out of it. Talking characters with 25 in all stats from tomes imported from BG1 + spawning retardedly OP shit (rings with regen... nixx or gixx or something like that) to gear them with and then I'd generally just melee bum rush the encounters because using spells was usually more effort than it was worth until I needed to debuff them so that my melee guys could harm them again (friggin mantle....). Having a save at the end-game to give multiple bonuses to characters via multiplayer repeatedly was crazy as well. 500 HP Wizard anyone?

I didn't remember BG2 feeling all the open. It felt quite linear compared to BG1 (likely didn't explore BG2 enough) and then a good portion of the main story you were off somewhere else on an island/underwater/somewhere that wasn't the main town.

I still haven't completed my BG1 goal of killing Elminster. Jerk usually ran away before I could actually hit him to get aggro. Killing Gorian (father figure at the beginning) was fun when he had the insta-death lightning bolt (spam summoned monster to interrupt spellcasting ftw). Think he had a few hundred HP and the level 10 (?) Wizard when you return to candlekeep had 700 HP when I counted the combat log, I think.

Minsc is one of the all-time greatest video game characters ever created. Xan was fairly amusing too. "Life... is so hollow...." "Our quest is VAIN!" Oh, and Tiax! Up there with Minsc. "When Tiax rules, breeches shall not ride UP so wedgelike!" Sad that Tiax was just an NPC in a prison in BG2.

Multiplayer is the way to go, even by yourself. You can change characters at the loading screen, so it makes it easy to have a "master save" for certain parts. It doesn't unpause the game if you open the inventory screen like it does in single player, if I recall how it works correctly. Not sure if it changes dialog amongst party members if you use mostly NPCs like you'd have to in single player, though. Maybe someone can clarify.

On my 2nd and subsequent playthroughs, I did one exploit:

Surrounded the butcher when you confront him and gain 250 XP. He couldn't move to run away (like he's scripted to) so it lets you talk to him again and again and again...infinite XP ftw.

I played a Ranger for my first playthrough, and I got to tell you, setting up traps and snares and kiting around was an absolute blast.

Still you have to admit, picking her in your group and being evil just to have her complain about it can be a lot of fun.

The biggest hint is to not install the Expansion before finishing the BG2. That way you can use Yoshimos endless trapps in to victory...

Disclaimer: I've never finished BG2 but this thread has definitely inspired me to take it up again.

http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/cebua/step_by_step_moddingguide_turn_baldurs_gate_and/This[/url] was posted on reddit a few months ago, a step by step guide on how to mod BG2 so you can do the bg1 + bg2 + bg2 expansion in one game all in the bg2 engine that was mentioned earlier in the thread.

I figured I'd save it for a second playthrough as a combination of it being 30gb all up of dl, until recently I only got 50gb a month, and I want to play it as it was intended first. But if it's your first playthrough and it's up your alley, or if you're looking for a second playthrough I think the idea is really cool and I'd 'recommend' it for what it's worth as a player that's never finished it!
Their are four errors in this sentance.

Btw since we are talking about bg/moding etc, this site contains everything you could ever want regarding bg 1/2

http://modlist.pocketplane.net/index.php

It is merely contains every mod ever maid for the 2 games, and if the mod isnt available on the site it redirects you to a place where you can find what you are looking for.

play BG1 first so you can get the golden pantaloons
when you get the silver and bronze pantaloons from BG2+expansion this allows you access to the best armour in the game
