Is the only way to manually join a server together and pray we can get into the same team? That seems so bad...
You can queue up with your friend in tournaments as a half roster. Hot join 8v8s are meant for pure casual solo play. Just go to the tournament guy in the Mists and make a quick roster of you and your friend while in party and you'll be queued up together for 5v5's you'll be thrown in with 3 other pick ups or another half roster.

Didnt know that, should be fun!

Not only can you queue with a friend in tournaments you can also queue solo in tournaments if you are tired of 8v8s. If you want to get more organized for 5v5's you can join #gw2ringer on irc.gamesurge.net people are always looking for players to fill out their pugs there.

Jormag is just a fun world fight, it really is a kick to the past to have a boss with that kind of complexity out in the world and it's pretty fun to do. Got him down but sadly I got 5 greatswords but the event itself was just intense as one would expect a dragon fight to be.
Engineer damage is interesting not sure if I am really into it but I am liking having the mobility and condition damage however I think at some point I may try a pure rifle build just to actually hit hard all at once rather then over time.
Yeah, rifle is more straight up damage. Pistol builds are more reliant on conditions, while rifles give you a little more control and burst.
Condition based builds are odd for world bosses because of how many people are around. Because conditions only stack to 25, a lot of times yours will get left off the table, resulting in no extra damage. While not a particularly huge deal as the boss is going to die anyway, you start to feel like you aren't contributing as much.
Also as an engineer you need to really utilize the kits. When using a heavy condition based build I usually like to carry both the elixer gun and the grenade kit for maximum condition stacking. Learning to rotate between kits every 5-10 seconds seems to be a large part to learning to play engineer to its maximum potential.
I've also found that the fastest way to solo farm as an engineer is utilizing both the grenade and bombs kits for heavy burst. I'll pull about 4-5 level 80 enemies and just circle strafe around them dropping bombs and they die in seconds.

I hope Anet plans to implement some kind of web tracking of server match ups in WvW.
We got rolled. It was really even last night.
Also in patch notes they removed dolyak exp until further notice to stop the farmers hopefully this helps ques on the other servers. I never noticed it on ehmry bay but is a problem on other servers.

Yeah lately I've been moving away from Flamethrower for grenades however I just love the flamethrower concept. Most of the time I'll end up blasting my static and poison on the pistol an auto or two of the bleed and then just swap to flame or bombs but the damage I deal isn't stellar most of the time. I've been doing the run around in circles grenade and bombing as of late but it tends to get me killed on occasion due to the nature of Orr having fairly quick respawns. Undead are scary like that.
For world bosses I think I'll swap to a rifle just so I feel like I am doing something, between it and grenades I should be able to keep up tons of dot's and do more direct damage to make myself feel more awesome. I haven't had a chance to really wvw or pvp mostly because as of writing this Northern Shiverpeaks currently owns nothing in the mists. I hear at night it gets better so I'll try some fun wvw stuff in the evening.

The two days when we owned every single point on the map there were TONS of hacked accounts doing just this. And by tons i mean probably 100 people at each dolyak being botted to farm xp silver and karma. Was horrendous to even look at. I did it for a while as really it's the easiest way to farm xp and karma if you own the entire map.

I found I really needed to stack toughness/vitality/power to effectively farm in Orr using the quickest method of bombs/nades. It really raises your suvivability and since bombs and grenades are your heavy hitting abilities they stack the best with power. You can easily take on pulls of 4-5 mobs fairly quickly with little to no downtime. With the economy in the toilet thanks to oversaturation you can easily attain a full level 80 mastercraft quality set of gear for less then 30 silver. Maybe even rares if you're lucky, but a lot of those sit in the 20s+ range, and the stats from mastercraft to rare are very minimal. Stack it with MF runes and MF rings and you're set to farm to your hearts content.
When it comes to dungeons though I change my build to my pistol/pistol heavy condition/support build. You don't hit incredibly hard, but seeing all those ticks of damage constantly flying off the enemies feels satisfying enough.

Stumbled on a sylvari dance video where i least expected it. It shows off the GW2 graphics quite nicely as well as having some great sceneries, so i thought i'd share it here: + Show Spoiler +

Thinking about picking this up, but I was curious as to if there was any PvE really in the game? Not that I don't enjoy PvP, but I like to enjoy PvE as well.

I think the dungeons largely aren't very good. There are a few cool bosses, like people have been saying such as the Sorrows Embrace story one, but largely the boss mechanics are hugely uninspired. Quite frankly, dungeons in the game feel like they're on the level of early vanilla WoW 5 mans. Which is really a huge step back. Another thing is that it's too zergable. You can WP zerg even on explorable and beat it eventually which is dumb. I think you should have to stay dead after a couple WP spawns until everyone in your team is dead or everything is reset.
But yeah I think the lame bosses are the biggest issue.
Everything else in the game is fairly good. After 150+ hours of play I'd give the game a 9.5/10. Easily the best MMO since WoW, but still has some work to do.

70 hour ban for vulgar language is bullshit when the game has a profanity filter hur dur

Was it just vulgar language, or was it directed at someone/used as an insult. People know ANet is banhappy when it comes to directed verbal insults, so whenever anyone see's anything of the sort they're quick to right click your name and report you for verbal abuse.
A general "fuck" here or there shouldn't get you banned. Or at least, ANet has said as such. Swearing seems to be alright as long as you aren't directing it at someone.
That said, as someone who played WoW off and on since release I've already become accustomed to the whole "profanity filter isn't an excuse to use fowl language" schtick. Blizzard has the same stance on the issue.

When I do dungeons I really feel like I'm doing missions in GW1 again. The sort of hectic nature they bring with a heavy focus on CC's/Snares/etc. The odd sort of way mobs leash and pull feels very similar too. The only difference is I need to rely on my party members to do these things instead of micro managing it all by myself like I had to do in GW1.
It's good in the sense that it feels familiar to me, but it's bad in the sense that I really have to rely on my party members to be on the ball during a lot of the explorable routes.

To be honest I really don't like the group PVE setup of guild wars 2. Then again I've only done AC, but it felt unpolished imo.
|
Well AC is unbalanced. The other dungeons are much easier.
So far I've fought a few dragons and while the fights are kinda epic its more or less just another heart/event and the rewards don't really reflect what you'd expect from a big battle like that.
Although there seems to be a chance of getting lvl 80 rare drops (like crystal/sigil upgrades and such) so its not all bad. Basically do it once to see it and forget. Pretty dissapointing.
Nearly finished off my crafting and nearing 80. Will be joining more WvW once i finished that. My guild has been tearing it up both capping the map during the day and holding it at night. Usually we own everything when I get home lol, so I just go pve. Not really interested in yo-yo spawn camping. Done enough of that in Lotro.
Can't wait till we get matched against better servers and theres a constant fight for control. Until then i'll be trying to complete the rest of the game.

Loving this game so far, but quick question. Im lvl ~31 ranger atm, do you guys prefer longbow or shortbow? atm I use longbow just because thats generally what i use for mmorpgs, but I hear people arguing that shortbow does more dmg. Im power focused ranger with greatsword and (obviously) longbow, with 50% of traits in power, 25% of traits in precision and 25% in beastmastery. Which bow do you guys prefer and why? And which do you think would be better statistics-wise for me?

Few questions for the TL guys.
How big is the TL guild on Embry?
I have a group of about 5-6 friends that are level 50+, would they be welcome to join with me as well?

It's decently sized. We have like 120 people but I usually see about 30'ish online at once.

From what I've read on rangers and watched Axe/warhorn and shortbow seems to do well for condition damage and Longbow is an excellent long range power build if you can keep that distance, the problem is of course keeping the distance. When I played ranger I was using Longbow/shortbow because I just disliked the axe/warhorn aesthetically.
As far as whats better, that's beyond my ability to say however I do know that Kripp fellow is playing a ranger and streams on twitch he seems to be doing rather well so his info/chat should have the specifics for you.
