Although they do have stats, and are readily available to those who've earned them, they will not overpower or belittle anyone who hasnt played gw1. You will outlevel them early, and from then on use hem as you wish for cosmetic purposes.
Except for the 3 ranger pets. Ranger pets level with you and become more powerful over time. You may get better gear (tho the gear levels with you but it will never be as good as most decent weapon/armor) but those pets will be useful from 1-80 and beyond. I look foward to having the black moa and white raven on my Ranger (black widow is w/e). I'm really curiuos to see the raven abilities since we have no idea what pet type it falls under. I think it'd be surprising if the HoM pets had unique abilities, though. That wouldn't be in line with the rest of Anet's beliefs on unique stats on items, etc. So as far as the original question is concerned, I think it's pretty safe to assume that it'll all be purely aesthetic.
As for the HoM items, Anet has said that it will be possible to reskin items you find, so that you can use your HoM skins on better items you get later.

Very true, many people will use their special pets until a much higher level. But I doubt they will be the "best" in the game.

Pets are normalized into categories afaik. So you can keep the skins lategame if you like them.

Definitely going to join. Guild Wars 1 was pretty fun, hope GW2 will be just as fun, or even better!

We just don't know for certain if there will be important differences between pets within those categories. I think it's pretty safe to guess that the answer's no, though--Anet is pretty good at not tying abilities to skins, and it sounds like they're going to stick to that in gw2.

On weapons of course not, as each weapon will have its own skills tied to it.

This holiday excuse is pretty weak when SWTOR is still releasing stuff weekly. Monk has already been more than hinted to be in the game, as for the next profession to be unveiled we'll have to see. And HoM rewards aren't just cosmetic. Some items you unlocked you will get at lv1, some other items will have to be unlocked ingame as you level with special quests. None of the HoM items will last until endgame ofc, but they have slapped on some good stats on a few of them so that the transition won't just be "type /HoM and get your lv1 character's inventory filled with gear".
I highly doubt that the most of the HoM items will be made redundant by endgame. If guildwars 1 is any comparison the majority of the game content will be played by max level characters using max level items. It just doesn't make sense to have most of the HoM stuff with low stats, because you will hardly get to use them (You can get to level 20 in factions in about a day).

Although the experience gained from PvP in Gw1 will be valuable. It will probably be the case of PvP players destroying PvE players in a similar fashion to diamond league players destroying people who only do the campaign. Items should be relatively unimportant if everyone is going to have access to max level items (As I suspect they aim for), so the big decider will be skill and internet connection.
I'm hoping that interrupts and the ranger mechanics work the same, so that GW2 can allow for some epic ranger scrims. If so I might even buy the game.

That's what they've said, anyway, iirc.
Edit: In response to ^^^^^.
There are 80 levels now, and they're aiming for the leveling rate to plateau at about one level every 90 minutes (after the first several levels, which of course will be faster). So no leveling at the speed from Factions.
World pvp will use pve chars and items. But structured pvp (like gvg) will be with pvp-only chars that start at max level with max items.
Anyway, they're still going to avoid making the best stats only available from certain high-end content. From everything they said, it sounds like it'll be just like gw in that respect: the rare stuff isn't the best stuff, but the prettiest stuff.

In GW2 leveling from 1 to 80 is going to take as much as in WoW, it won't take 1 day to make a fresh max lvl pve character.

I yearn for the game that is about skill > gear. I understand gear giving you an advantage to an extent, but I do miss the days of early WoW/Warhammer when people were known for how they played their class, their abilities, rather than the set of gear they are wearing.

Well, since you started this thread, I'm sure you know this, but there's still GW. Aside from q7s/oldschool shields/etc., gear's entirely a non-issue.

is there a beta out for gw2?
|

Definetely going to be buying GW2, been playing the original for years and GW2 is shaping up to look like it could become the WoW-killer.
Is recruiting closed? I would love to join this guild, I've been looking for a mature community to play with and what better place for that than TL?

Recruiting is on a short hold, as we wait to see how guild structures will work in gw2. Its not closed, just simply being structured at the moment. We don't want to foolishly mass recruit everybody, and we hope you can respect the fact were working on a specific plan of action on keeping the guild recruitment of a higher standard than just a "zerg".
For now, it wont hurt to stop by the forums, or hang out in this thread. Obviously we'd love to see you guys in sc2 as well. I'll have more info as the guild votes on the ideas.

Updated main poll to reflect a common topic brought up in PMs.

Actually, that impresses me. Most guilds I've had experience with were either elitist snobs or they invited any random kid who applied into the guild. The fact that you guys are this organized before this long before the game is even out is rather remarkable. Let me know when you guys work it out.
Btw, are any of you guys playing GW1 in a semi-organized fashion? PUGing gets old after awhile XD

I would like to play this game. Is Diablo 3 releasing around the same time as this?
