My biggest question concerning coaching positions is "when will the Chin return?" He's got to come back, but when will he come back, and where will he go?

I'm never gonna know you now \ But I'm gonna love you anyhow.

He will return when coughlin gets fired or when his daughters finish school, I forget How old they are but I recall that being a Huge reason he left

Edit
I forgot that his wife died so definitely not untilhis kids finish school though it appears that they're all in college so who knows

He's probably just waiting for his dream job to open up. I really think that when the NY job opens up he'll take it

hahahah coughlin. the decision to retain him still baffles me. the only reason i can think of is that they didnt have a definite replacement for him that would be an improvement.

Winning a Super Bowl can do wondrous things for a head coach i guess.

Rivera is a solid pickup as a head coach for the Panthers, he's turned defenses around, but Panthers have a lot of glaring holes that cannot be solved just by hiring a good coach.

Retaining Coughlin wasn't a bad idea, considering the pool of coaches available wasn't going to be great. The Giants were not a bad team; they had a lot of injuries. However, Giants had a lot of turnovers, with Eli throwing 25 interceptions.

Do you guys think there will be a lockout in the NFL, or will things be alright in time for next season? Of course, this would become a bigger issue once the Super Bowl is over, but warrants some attention.
Venture Capital is better off spent on lottery tickets rather than investing in E-Sports; you'll get a far better return. The difference is simple: Koreans are tryharding at the game, foreigners are tryharding in real-life.

I understand retention until the end of a contract, especially this season. I think they were planning to extend his contract though? I'm not sure of the particulars, really. But, with the uncertainty of a season, in general, this year, it's not surprising that some bad coaches got to stick around for one more year.

If anything happens to the NFL congress will call in the military and force them to play by gunpoint. I know i personally would physically assault at least 4 people if i went too long without my football, so I'd imagine on a large scale it would plunge America into anarchy.

You guys really don't understand football to be saying the giants should be firing coughlin or even questioning his ability and this is coming from an eagles fan. Who would they have picked up instead? Look at who was available when they decided to extend his contract. Harbaugh wasn't going to leave the bay area even for his alma mater. Gruden - won a superbowl because of a tony dungy built team and was horrible after that - ego driven, would rot in new york. Cowher's career wasn't that much better than Coughlin by any means. John Fox? Yeah he was a QB away from a 4 win season... And now look at who's there. Nobody. There's stability in Coughlin and the people in new york and on the giants like him. His resume is stacked for a tenured NFL coach. He hasn't made false promises and his team crapping the bed last year and this year wasn't his fault. Eli is Eli - a doofus QB with high potential who will never be as good as his brother and cost you a few games - and a lot more than a few games the first few years coughlin had to put up with him. Then factor in all the WR and offensive line injuries this year, bradshaw fumbling like he was being paid to by the other team. Losing spagnolo as the defensive coordinator had its effect too - their defense showed up every other week more or less. At some point you just have to accept they were a team who beat up on some terrible teams, but really aren't an elite team that can win week in and week out, and really have no business in the playoffs this year. The only person who would be worthwhile bringing in would have been Fisher, and since tennesse got a clue and abandoned the v young ship that sank once he left college that was out of the question.

Usually when you can make a giant laundry list of things that's been wrong with a team for a long time it's a bad sign for a head coach.

Bill Cowher 161-99-1

Tom Coughlin 137-110-0

Anyone who says there isn't a big difference between the two coaches is the one who doesn't know football. I suggest you study up, and then come back. Coughlin has had identical problems with two teams, it's not because of the teams, it's because of him. When variables change, and yield the same results, it's the constant that is causing the problem, not the variables.

By the way, is your enter key broken? It's really hard to read walls of text like that.

To be fair, as well, Eli threw a lot of those picks in some games that were already lost. He threw like four more than were needed vs GB, when the game was already all but over.

It's too bad for them that this didn't happen sooner, they could probably have landed Wade.

Haha the Texans probably called Wade up the very day he was fired. He has strong Houston ties so he probably would have gone there over SD anyway.

Coughlin 8-6 in the playoffs vs Cowhers 12-9. Big difference ... right.

Coughlin's record with the giants is 65-47 .580 Cowher's is what you posted... .620... Big difference again... right.

The Giants have never finished last in the NFC east. They've consistently been a decent team. Look at teams in the NFL with consistency - they have longevity with their coaching staff. What's there to gain in picking up Cowher? Nothing. You really think Cowher can gel with Eli manning? Eli will be crying by midseason - and if he isn't itll look like he is from all of Cowher's spit. Not to mention Cowher will probably be an even bigger salary hit because he's already got a gig with CBS and you're pulling him out of retirement. I know my "research" - thanks kid.

coughlin's playoff record is inflated because of that one super bowl run.

A .04 difference is pretty big when you look at the number. If it's 6 or 10, then it's not, but when it's 161-99 and 137-110 then it is. We're talking .4 over 200+ games each. Consistently decent does not cut it in the NFL these days.

I think Cowher's overrated because of the way he went out. Coughlin's a good, flawed coach but I think so is Cowher; the different is that Cowher retired off the SB victory so he looks really good, and as time passes people start to look at him like a savior because he's a Super Bowl coach. Don't forget that he worked under a superb, highly under-the-radar GM who consistently handed him phenomenal draft picks across the rounds, much the same way Tomlin is benefiting now. That's not to say Cowher sucks, but when you consider the talent he had, up until that one final run he looked like AFC Reid with his massive ups and downs and playoff disappointments. Just two years before the SB run people were even calling for his head.

Same thing can be said about Cowher. You take his away he's under .500 too.

Steeler's werent consistently great either. I forget when the stretch was in the late 90's when the Steelers were absolutely terrible. Last or close to it 3-4 years straight. The giants have had 10 win seasons for the better part of Coughlin's stay, and if he coached there for the 15 years or whatever Cowher did at Pittsburgh, it would be right around the same thing.

I'd like to know too what it is about Cowher's coaching style would make him better in New York. Is he going to solve their WR injuries or make sure another top tier WR doesn't shoot himself in the leg? Is he going to make Osi be the d-lineman he was in 2007? Maybe make Eli worth half of what he's being paid after winning the SB? I don't see it at all, and I don't think you can justify it either.
