as someone who played RO1 for eight years straight, i'm just not feeling this game. =( currently playing really casually so i'm only a 34 sorc, but everything just feels so stale. the monster design especially feels insanely half-assed

I've been playing and haven't found it too bad, pretty standard mmo with some things I haven't really seen before. Don't anticipate sticking with it but it's not bad to kill some time and have a different experience

Its a casual MMO thats just average...played on the SEA server where the company was a serious troll when it came to events and stuff...played for a month during summer but the end game was just too boring. Might check it out again after a couple patches later when guild wars is patched in and stuff..but thats gonna take too long

Yeah the only thing that really got updated was probably the combat...everything else was just dumbed down

Turned the original RO into just another WoW clone (a poorly done one at that). Simply WoW with an RO theme. Only redeeming factor for me is the Colosseum and the promise of WoE.

Dungeons and raids are bland, short, and very low in difficulty. iRO uses seaRO settings which means Res CD are > 30 min, support heals are greatly nerfed compared to the kRO game, pretty much a blatant attempt at forcing people to use the cash shop and its insta-res items to be able to complete raid content at a reasonable pace (if you're inexperienced and exploring with a new group, it's difficult to one-shot things). UI is clunky and still full of bugs. Targeting is a pain with inconsistent hit-boxes, dungeon finder doesn't let you select which dungeon you want to group for (?!?!), places you in dungeons that are out of your level range or way too low leveled (and even completed dungeons, which means there's no way for you to leave other than asking for kick or take deserter debuff). Given my experience is only with iRO, perhaps kRO is a much better representation of what this game was supposed to be, but given the quality of other MMOs in the market (TERA, GW2), it baffles me how this game took so long to develop.

Even the small things... like removing cosmetic part of the game - no more headgear drops from monsters. All costumes are cash shop only which means absolutely no incentive to spent time in the world post-maxing. No customizing how you look, no sense of finding rares out of dungeons.

This game would have been decent had it come out when the first (failed) sequel was supposed to release, almost 10 years ago. Instead we get slapped with a game with aged mechanics, below average technical specs, riddled with bugs. No idea why I started again after the mess that was seaRO. Save yourself some time and pass on this one, unless you're okay with WoW with throwbacks to RO1, cuter graphics, and a tons of bugs.

RO1 is the only true MMORPG (for me). Stats, elements, crafting, alchemy, cards, open maps, party. So simple, so perfect. Have not feel this on any other MMORPG.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of people complaining have been spoiled by playing WoW for too many years. If you look at RO2 just as a sequel to RO1, I think they have done fairly. There is room for improvement, but i dont understand the river of tears. RO was never an MMO for hardcore players.

I've played RO1 on the iRO servers for many many years since beta so I was there from the beginning.

Not sure what you mean by that... not speaking for others, but I personally was not being totally objective because I have been "spoiled" by WoW - and it is a superior game compared to RO2 in terms of quality and content, though granted it's had many more years to refine itself. Then again, as an iRO player for that long, you're probably somewhat biased as well, no?

Objectively speaking, can you really say RO2 is a "good" game in terms of technical specs/execution, quality of story telling/story, or even just bringing something new to the table that as compared to the hundreds of other mass-produced MMOs? For something that has been delayed, and been in development for so long, I just find it hard to believe that it resulted in so little. For me, iRO was a far superior game in terms of innovation at the time of release, unique gameplay and fun, even if you just want to compare the two.

I agree for the most part. RO1 was an amazing MMO for its time. I also agree that RO2 is fairly lacking in several departments when compared to the "new-generation" of MMOs, especially when compared to something like WoW. The monster AI and design and the lack of "open" world when it comes to leveling are some of my biggest criticisms as well.

I also think that the game has suffered in some aspects due to being free-to-play as well. I do have to imagine a lot of things have to be simplified to attract players to a free MMO with micro-transactions. Official RO1 server play required a monthly subscription. I can't quite put my finger on what they sacrificed going from subscription-based to free-to-play but I definitely sense something was missing in its development.

Overall, for RO2 as a stand-alone free-to-play MMO, I don't think it's bad as many are making it out to be.

RO not an MMO for hardcore players? Nonsense! There was a guy on my server who sold his couch to buy a Megingjard (with cash) from someone else on the server. You've probably heard of him, if you were on iRO.

That being said, I can see where you're coming from by saying it wasn't for hardcore players, but there were a lot of people who played the game pretty seriously. When I first started playing RO1, it had a LOT of casual players (like 3,000 accounts logged in all the time on my server (including bots)). It did taper off pretty quickly, though; especially after the Transcendent classes patch. After that patch, a lot of hardcore players emerged. They seemed to only get more hardcore as time went on.

I mean, every game is going to have its share of hardcore players, including RO1, I was even a participant in the very first national PVP tournament on iRO, so I guess even I was considered a "hardcore" player.

I also transitioned from RO to WoW, so have experience with both. I just think RO2 is getting a little too much flak when people are comparing it side-by-side with WoW, which I think is a little unjustified.

happened last week, so kind of old news. collision guild took down hard mode baphomet after around 20 tries. A lot of people were in green gear still when it happened. I'm the wiz in the video, the one who died first LOL

this is the first 3d mmo I've tried, so no point of reference, but it is pretty fun. You do need a group to fully explore the game content though

The game feels like a beta. There are so many bugs that constantly pop up that I'm amazed they thought it would be a good idea to release the game. For a 3D game, the targeting system needs work. Moving on to the next monster after killing one occasionally switches to an enemy across the room.

It's basically become MapleStory in 3D. If you want extra inventory space and storage space, you pay for it with cash. They really try to nickel and dime you with little things too. The Khara quest for "getting" super large bags from the Kafra shop (equivalent to MapleStory's Cash shop) finishes two bonus missions instead of the usual one.

Any semblance of customization from RO1 no longer exists. None of the items are class interchangeable. They killed what made the original RO great in terms of gameplay, customization. A sin can't use dual daggers, because every weapon is specified for a single job. Item specificity makes everything bland. The card system is a complete joke. Stat boosts don't provide any sort of variation from character to character. When two cookie cutter builds clash in a mirror, it's basically all up to RNG. The variation in RO1 allowed for a single job to have multiple builds, with unique equipment for each build. RO2 guarantees that no equipment variation will exist between each character of the same class, because they have no other options.
