Wowowowowowow!
Well, I've been a long fan of RO since the very start of it! I played a lot on the international server and then on private servers.
Then, RO2 was announced, got into beta, and thought it completely sucked ass. Afterwards, the whole project went into hiatus cuz the whole developer team had a huge fight with Gravity and quit, so RO2 was on hold.
On January, Gravity announced they were working on RO2: legend of the second, remaking it on all it's entirety. They changed the engine to Gambryo, tried to stick more to the original RO and added a shitload of stuff. And a month ago, some updates started to come out, and finally, beta for the new version is supposed to come at the end of this month!
So, I'll link you up to important sites that update regularly and a couple of screens. Discuss!

On August 13 2010 02:53 Zalfor wrote: ro2 beta sucked ass i remember Read my post. This is another RO2 completely made from scratch since it had negative feedback from the community and the dev team left. This is a chance for it not to suck!

I might try this out. I played RO on a private server way back. It was quite fun. I'm looking forward to RO2.
|
playd RO when it was in openbeta about a million years ago. was fun.. might check it out.
|
will non-koreans be able to play beta?
|
holy crap I am excited for this 8)
|
Glad they remade it... RO2 beta was terrible :3
|
Now this looks like a sequel. Not what it was before. I guess what they had before was too much for them. I still hope they keep Yoko Kanno's work around. It'd be disappointing if they just hired her for nothing.
I am excite, but... no merchant remake class huh? Blacksmiths and Alchemists were a part of my favorites.

Looking forward to the trailer. Thanks.

The art direction looks much improved this time around. Was not a fan of the 3d chibis. It looks like they're taking a lot of notes from Mabinogi which is a good thing! Mabinogi + Ragnarok art style = yes please
|
Cool :o i thought this died lol
Used to play RO a lot with what guild and nabz/robuddies, we might pick this up if private servers appear
|
The designs look pretty good this time. Hopefully something good comes out of it.

Why would you do this to me :< Now for like a hour I just sit here uncontrollably hyping myself up
Here's 4 month old interview for those like me who just discovered this:
http://forums.irowiki.org/showthread.php?t=60378
Bullet points: - you start off as one of the job-class (so no need to level-up novice)
- new Chara (short for "charisma") system as a replacement of 2nd job change. Basically through different means your character can become either "Dark" or "Light" and this will greatly influence effect of character's spells and your play-style. Also your Charisma isn't fixed for the rest of the game like your job, so you can swing back and forth for quiet a bit of effort.
- Dual Life System (!!!). Every character now has "Battle Job" and "Life Job" (visit link for concept art) + Show Spoiler +-- What is the new system referred to as the 'Dual Life System'?
Jin-soo: In RO, you can play as merchant and blacksmith jobs, but most players make merchants as sub characters just to sell items. Additionally, Merchants and blacksmiths don't present an image of being a job capable of combat. With that in mind, we created the 'Dual Life System'.
In RO2:LotS, you have a main Battle Job, and also a second 'Life Job' which can create equipment or potions. So like Swordsman + Blacksmith, Swordsman + Alchemist, or Swordsman + Chef. A character's skill tree is divided into the Battle and Life Jobs you chose.
-- How would these jobs affect play?
Jin-soo: Depending on the situation the characters appearance would change. So when a character is in battle they would appear in their Battle Job form, and then when crafting items they would appear as their Life Job. When collecting herbs, or minerals, you could be either form. Also, the life skills also can have some skills that can be used specifically in combat. For example, as a Swordsman+Blacksmith, you could use the blacksmith skill 'Loud Voice' to power up your swordsman attack power. Some final skills would involve changing into your life job temporarily. When doing that, you could use exclusive skills, or certain abilities could be stronger. The merchant job for example can use the RO skill 'Mammonite'.
- change for a Card system. Basically, cards aren't part of equip anymore.
- you can become NPC when going offline, so other players can still use your character's services when you aren't in the game.
- Yoko Kanno's BGM will be used, but very scarcely (one example of such use they have in mind is when you summon certain pets).
Imho, changes sound very exciting and exactly what the game needed, except maybe for a Card system change - but that depends on how they implement it.

any news about card system? it was like the most important thing about your EQ, hope they dont fuck it up
|
i hated the card system
hey guys lets make the most important items drop 0.01 % of the time on mobs that are constantly botted.
i hope the equipment system becomes more like wow, in which dungeons are where you get the most loot, but it's RO so it probably won't change.
but ro was like the funnest game ever, i just always came back regardless of how shitty the game was at times

On August 13 2010 07:06 whiteLotus wrote: any news about card system? it was like the most important thing about your EQ, hope they dont fuck it up There is some actually! I thought project Revolution blog linked in the OP (http://ro-projectrevolution.blogspot.com/) was just some random blogspam, but it's actually valid and in some form official Gravity blog, so there's quite a lot of Very interesting info.
That's what the guy there said regarding concern about new Cards system:
4)I believe you talked about how you would be able to equip and unequip cards, but you never mentioned that it would be on people, not on gears. I really believe this is quiet a big step, and is going to make this system very different from RO1's.When you can't slot weapons with cards, it makes you wander how can you customize what you wear; if at all.
You'll have to give the new system a chance. Not able to equip cards directly to weapons doesn't mean you won't be able to equip something else to them. The reason why the Cards will not be equipped to gears is simply the fact that - in Real life, you don't slap cards on equipments to make them stronger. I expressed the fact that Card system are still around like RO1 since it will still bring that joy of collecting and equipping them. It will still bring that same feeling but to a whole new level being able to upgrade the cards to your own preferences and then selling your own custom upgrade will be like selling a card attached to a weapon, but without wasting a valuable weapon. So Cards are Cards, a new kind of accessory, and Weapons are Weapons but not relying on attaching the cards. Weapons will have their own system which is why it's easier to separate the two, but never or less -card types will still effect your weapons, armors, personal stats, etc. I'm under assumption they didn't just separate card and weapon systems, but also added some additional features to both of them, like allowing to upgrade the cards. What does he even means by upgrade cards I wonder. +8 Hydra card anyone? =))
Also Chara system seems to be similar in a way with Race system from old RO2, but much more sensible and much more elegantly integrated into RO setting. I especially liked that light/dark charisma of the guilds owning castles influences city - that adds so much dynamic to the game world and should make it so much more fluid!
