You must be kidding. Goblin Welder.
and there are plenty more broken cards than welder. if we are talking about one that completely fucked up the metagame, i would say skullclamp. idk if anything since then has had a similar effect since i stopped playing after kamigawa, but that shit just HAD to be played.
I actually read a MTG thread about the top broken cards, and clearly it is a land/mana card and that land card is called Tolarian Academy, Strip Mine would be a close second imo (hell even the original Dual lands are pretty broken). But if you wanna take it old school it's obviously the power 9: Black Lotus Ancestral Recall Timetwister Mox Ruby Mox Jet Mox Emerald Mox Pearl Mox Sapphire Time Walk
Library of alexandria was better than half of the power 9 imo. Sol ring is up there with the best too. Yawgmoth's will has broken a couple of formats without being as ridiculous at first glance as the others.
Edit: My pick for best card ever gotta be ancestral recall though, it is not possible to make a deck with blue mana sources where 4 ancestral recalls aren't making your deck waaayyy better.
i wasnt including the really old cards because back then the MTG guys barely put any effort into balancing. skullclamp came after several sets of pretty good balance(i loved odyssey-onslaught) and just broke everything to hell. almost every deck had to run it for the insane card advantage.
nice article i came across just now. gah what an interesting, nostalgic time. it was also the height of my MTGing.
Well, I can agree to an extent, but memory jar still is the only emergency ban in the history of the game. Wizards were pretty keen about balance then too, they tried to fix standrad by banning quite some stuff from saga and then boom here comes a card which makes anything slower than turn 2 kills void.
We can all agree that Jar is WTF BROKE, but that deck was powered by Dark Ritual. Ritual is one of the holy trinity of Vintage (Workshop, Ritual, Drain). All 3 of which are broken in their own right, but each can have a deck built around it, which somehow causes Vintage to be balanced. Somehow. As far as "Units," Goblin Welder is the best card in Magic with type Creature. However, if we are considering raw power on any card, that honor has to go to Balance, the most absolutely unfair card in the game.

The only thing you really wanted to cast it on (Emerald Weapon) you couldn't, or he would respond with Ultima, instantly killing your whole party.
Granted you knew your party was going to die several times during this encounter so you had last word-phoenix set up... meh, that's like calling the contra code OP
Ruby Weapon, and she. And Shieldx3 first before you cast KotR.
I never thought Brahms in VP1 (or 2) was OP, compared to Freya (or Iseria Queen).
BTW, Cid Orlando won the thread in my opinion. Or the last boss of Mushihime sama Futari black edition Ultra mode... Yeah... :D Or Icicle fall Cirno in easy mode.

Remember raging how it feels like i never got them but everyone ells did
If my memory doesn't fail me, the only way to get the lightning was to be at the 7th or 8th place. That is probably the reason you never got the lightning, it was impossible not to be 1th @ that game.
i believe so. but i think that in the sequal they changed that. and there where alot of op shit there. i know that you could get lightnings and stars at like 5th or 6th. the red koopa character had a special ability that gave him 3 red koopa shells.
Well, Death Knights, or their equivalent versions (Dark Champions in HoMM4, Wraith in HoMM5) are extremely powerful in HoMM4 and 5, mostly because being Undead is more valuable in those games (you are immune to Hypnosis/Puppet Master, Frenzy, and Blind). In HoMM3 those spells are not usually used (Implosion is way better). Being non-flying and not *THAT* fast, Death Knights suffer the same kind of problem as pretty much every other land unit in HoMM3.
In terms of recruitable creatures in HoMM3, I still think Black Dragons are the best. For HoMM4 Black Dragons win again. In HoMM5, I feel it's a toss-up between Seraphs (High damage, high attack, Leech Life, and can use Divine Vengeance), Black Dragons, and Untamed Cyclops (High damage, high HP, hits a huge area, part-time ranged unit, very cheap to build).
Death Stare from Gorgons is obviously powerful. But there is a more powerful (aka broken) version of this from Medusa in HoMM4. Medusa in HoMM4 essentially has the same Death Stare, but it's also RANGED. With a reasonable number of Medusa you can 1hit enemy heroes.

Let's see, I get 65 attacks this turn, right? I'll just start rolling.
Wand of Wishing - Nethack
Not a character, but come on.
Rikku - FFX
You folks that are saying Auron are clearly not aware of Rikku's stupidly insane overdrive mix, Trio of 9999. Simply put, she mixes some Lv spheres and all of your entire party's attacks do 9999 damage.
All of them.
Smack your opponent with an elemental gem for a few hits of 9999 per character, and all bosses are easily handled.
with the celestrial weapons you can break 9999 damage .. it's been proven that wakka is the strongest character if you max him out.
I have to say Pala and DK in Season 5 was some of the most disgusting %*()@ i have ever seen in a videogame, and ive been playing since the NES and Master System.
But what made it to become the biggest balance blunder in history of competitive gaming (if you can even call Arena that) is how long it took them to do anything about.
Back then alot of us were "mad bro" but today its fun to look back and just laugh at the whole debacle, it really brought any respect or mistique about these WoW devs below zero, ever since people have been making fun of them and nobody takes them seriously anymore.
Dunno where to start... Emerald Weapon in FF VII was a bad ass that consumed a lot of time of my youth ... Seth in Street Fighter IV Arcade(Round 2) was OP when compared to all the other fights. Shin Gouki(Shin Akuma) in SF Alpha III was just overpowered as hell imho(Dual Air-Fireballs any1?!) Beastmaster in Wc3 TFT was OP as well in the first few patches. More OPness comes to my mind but it would be a neverending post

Only the case in NWN. Monks are tied with Fighters and Paladins for being the worst classes in by-the-book D&D 3.0/3.5, especially since by-the-book Power Attack maths out to higher average damage than Two Weapon Fighting, Flurry, or similar feats.
