After watching Inter vs Bayern, I must say that Inter sucks balls.
The only players worth keeping in such great club are Julio Cesar, Sneijder and Eto'o (and perhaps the promising subs like Coutinho and Biabany). Duh, even watching Maicon, who's completely worn-out for playing too much was painful. The rest of Inter players played like granpas because, frankly, they are grandpas as for football standards. Their time is gone.
Bayern, ot the other hand, was awful at attacking opponents goal. Too much tries to get a successful pass on Gomez' head. But at least they have Robben and Ribery on flanks, while Leonardo keeps sending Zanetti and Stankovic. <--- Those two should have already enlisted Italian Air Force ACE.

And yes, Bayern was awful at attacking. Playing against slow, tall defenders and hoping for a header instead of perpendicular passes? Bad idea. Inter was weak enough to lose more than one goal and any slightest chance of advancing as well.

i feel like we've had this discussion 7 or 8 times over the years on TL and i don't particularly feel like having it again, but i think that the european referees have been improving each year in properly calling fouls, giving cards for dangerous tackles and being resilient of attempts to trick them. referees obviously deserve more respect, more pay and technological aids. it is a ridiculous world where managers take out pieces of paper with lists of mistakes by referees compiled by people watching the game with 100 different viewpoints, where pundits watch a slow motion replay for the 4th time and then decide that the referee has made a "bad mistake" or is having a "bad game", yet we can't give them fucking goal-line cameras? it's truly a disgrace. in the face of all this, we have people promoting acceptance of cheating as "culture". it is a step in the completely wrong direction, and it is a mindset that is so damaging to football.
I couln't agree more with you. And I feel it's a football inherent problem. I've done multiple sports myself and never experience such a lack of respect for referees as there is in football. Everyone thinks he can discuss anything with the referee althought it doesn't change anything, and afterwards blame him. The unsportsmanship in this regard is massive, and even the professionals behave like this on a regular basis, they must all feel like they play perfect and the cruel referee spoiled there game (on a second thought, reminds me of SC2 and "imbalance" discussions). It's so childish, nobody tries to be hard on himself, always blame the referee when you lost...
And I agree that the referees have improved drastically. I don't know about the situation in other countries, but in Germany, a referee team that makes a total of 5 mistakes in a fast-paced 90 minute game is already said to be having a bad day in relation to the average performance, showing how good referees even without technical aid have become.

The header from Müller was awful, he should have scored there, and Ribery put one header to the bar. So they almost score 2 goals by headers and you call it a bad idea? Bayern obviously has superior wingers and that is why they use this tactic.

I dont think anyone gets away for embelishment even if they con referees these days, not with the public atleast. Lets face it a clubs supporters will never speak ill of their player but the rest of the world butchers them, and you dont see it happening to often. Extreme cases like that Busquets nonsense a year back sure thats wrong.
And everyone hounds referees doesnt matter where they are from. No one except a clubs own support ever really says thats ok. Thats just a problem with football and considering the stakes anyone would do it.
You could argue because English players get away with kicking at peoples heels and playing snatch on the field makes it "the fastest paced league". More like the "shortest career league". Sure you have hardheads like Terry who can take a super kick to the face and still live but not everyones a goon who can take that.I think thats something that would be something people with would be more worried about than a bit of playacting.
Its really easy to sit on a high horse without ever being in said position and criticize.. hence the fine line.

What match have you seen ? Ribbery is 1,70m and he put a header on the bar ! And slow defenders ? have u watched Lucio ? He was the best man of Inter besides Eto'o. The only problem that Bayern had was that they opted to pass the ball inside the penalty box as instead to finish the attack with a shoot ! But thats van Gaals philosophy ...
Besides this Bayern had tried a variety of different attacks ! not just high crossings, but also passes to the back of Inter's defence (Gomez' chance first half) and from the distance (Robben & Gustavo). In summary, that match was one of the better Ro16 matches, with both sides attacking well (although lacking the results) but also with shaky defences.
Edit: but i agree with you that, Inter sucks vs Bayern lol. Bayern played like a home-team there. But Inter is still a dangerous team...

On a sidenote, with Bayer Leverkusen's win over Charkiw yesterday, Bundesliga has now secured the third place in the UEFA ranking for this year and will definetily field another team in 2012/13 Champions League. Seria A cannot gather enough points to get it back anymore.

(1) "people dont get away with embellishment because other clubs supporters won't like them after the incident"
(2) "football players get a lot of money and fame when they win, so you can't blame them for treating referees with no respect"
(3) "people only say the english league is the fastest in the world because people kick each others heels. playing snatch in the field shortens careers. playacting is a lot less dangerous than attempting to head the ball away from people doing bicycle kicks."
a culture of playacting does not prevent injuries, indeed it is probably the opposite. an unwavering dedication to properly disciplining players for dangerous tackles/play lowers the risk of injury, but nothing can absolutely prevent future injuries. italy has the most playacting of any major european league, yet flamini still committed the worst tackle of the champions league so far. retroactive decisions need to be made by uefa officials for bad tackles, especially if the referee is not in a position to see the tackle properly. i am all for physicality and upper body strength in the box and shoulder-to-shoulder challenges, but open play studs up tackles need to be eradicated from the game, they are by far the most dangerous situations in any football game.

I don't know if you noticed that you are talking about the two last year finalists - they cannot and are not all that bad

Yeah it's most likely to be a crazy paced game. Bayern needs to attack and Dortmund isn't good at defending so they will search their fortune in attacking aswell I guess, could end 3-3 or something like that

Meh was hoping united would draw with wigan, but looks like not to be

Wigan never perform against united
"Head-to-head Man U & Wigan:
• Manchester United have won all 12 previous matches against Wigan, scoring 37 goals and conceding just four.
• The Latics have only scored one goal in their last seven matches against United.
• Last season's corresponding fixture ended in a 5-0 drubbing for Wigan. "
