Half of the teams have played their third qualifying round (out of four) and compete for a prestigious place in the UEFA Champions League (not to talk about the absurd amount of money there is waiting around the corner). For those of you not familiar with the format/team seeding etc.: + Show Spoiler + For those of you not familiar, Champions League is the most prestigious tournament for european teams, teams are seeded depending on how good their domestic league is compared to the others (based on an international ranking, decided by how well the clubs do in international competition) The better the domestic league is, the more spots you get in the competition, for example; La Liga and Premier League are the two best leagues by this measurement, therefor they earn 4 spots each (3 directly into the group stage, 1 that has to go through 1 play-off round against another team) Swedish Allsvenskan, ranked as the 23rd league in Europe gets 1 spot (starts at the second qualifying round - has to win against 3 other teams to qualify to the group stage) (For current league standings visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient) All in all there's 4 rounds of qualifying - first, second, third and the playoff. Each round is played in best out of two, if the total score is a draw after two games, the team with most goals scored when playing on the other teams ground walks away with the overall win. Second qualifying round (first game): Zestafoni (GEO) vs. Sturm (AUS) + Show Spoiler [Results] + Zestafoni 1 - 1 Sturm Ekranas (LAT) vs. BATE Borisov (LTU) + Show Spoiler [Results] + Ekranas 0 - 0 BATE APOEL FC (CYP) vs. Slovan Bratislava (SLO) + Show Spoiler [Results] + APOEL 0 - 0 Bratislava Litex FC (BUL) vs. Wisla Krakow (POL) + Show Spoiler [Results] + Litex 1 - 2 Krakow Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) vs. Rubin Kazan (RUS) + Show Spoiler [Results] + Dynamo Kyiv 0 - 2 Rubin Genk (BEL) vs. Partisan (SER) + Show Spoiler [Results] + Genk 2 - 1 Partisan Rangers (SCO) vs. Malmö FF (SWE) + Show Spoiler [Results] + Rangers 0 - 1 Malmö Twente (HOL) vs. Vaslui (ROM) + Show Spoiler [Results] + Twente 2 - 0 Vaslui For coming matches: http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2012/matches/index.html

Then again, maybe anyone will look good after you remember arenas coaching To some in the US soccer community, there has always been somewhat of a reluctant acceptance of Bob Bradley as the National team manager. I'm trying to recall when the growing resentment towards Bob started (some were from the very beginning of course). I think it was the 2009 Gold Cup spanking to Mexico. Ever since then, it just snowballed. The Confederation Cup only earned Bob a short reprieve, and even then, it seemed like many people were just waiting to pounce on any little mistake. This last Gold Cup lost appears to be the last straw. Many see Bob as a good MLS coach but not tactically savvy (the infamous empty bucket formation) enough to bring the U.S. to that next level. Other people harp on about his call up decisions (bornstein, findley, etc) and starting lineups (Mike Bradley all the time) accusing him of favoritism and even nepotism. While I questioned some of his lineup decisions, I do believe he took the job very seriously and did the best he could. It's just I don't think Bob is the coach to take us to the next level. I don't like the idea of a National team manager coaching for more than 1 term (the horrors of Arena still haunts) if he didn't do or bring anything extraordinary (which Bob didn't imo). No hatred for the man (should read some BigSoccer posts for that) but in that respect, I'm happy he's gone. Looking forward to something new. Anyway, many people are saying that this is our next National Team Manager: ![]() I don't suppose Löw could be his assistant again.
