I'm sure I'm probably alone in that thought, but I'm also sure that were I to log in a month or so 50% of people playing will be waiting for the next season. I know what you mean. It's both a blessing and a curse, because it reveals IMO the greatest flaw with D3, which is that so much of the endgame is gated behind a wall of RNG. You cannot progress until you get your 6 set and an ancient weapon and in the end it all comes down to rolls. With Kadala alone it comes down to volume but now with the Cube it makes it easier than ever to just reroll the item you have until it has acceptable stats, and then you can reroll it AGAIN at the mystic. Why do you think paragon levels need to be removed or capped? IMO they're a great addition to the game, but what really hurts them is that they are global. I wish they were character specific like in vanilla. The grind to get paragon is one of the constants in this game. It's a time investment. The only downside is how ridiculously OP 4 man groups are...and I usually play solo or two man. Then again, I started this season late, so it doesn't really matter. I'm just here to see what cool stuff I can do with the Cube. I can see how it might be boring to get paragon points, etc, but for me as a HC player the end game is to see how far I can push GR before I die, which is IMO pretty satisfying at the end of each season. It gives a purpose to everything else. It's probably a bit different as a SC. I got to paragon 953 last season, which isn't earth shattering (beyond how little of a life I had rofl, I wasn't botting unlike basically everyone getting obscene rankings). I think they need to be capped because they reveal just how much of a bandaid fix they really are, which most people I guess never really see because they don't really play as much as others (nothing wrong with that, all signs point to the contrary), and they also don't know just how fucking powerful they are. As it stands, realisticly speaking the end game content of diablo is pushing greater rifts higher and higher, and the only real way to do that once your gear is super duper good is to get paragon points, because realistically speaking if you main one character to say paragon 800 chances are you have every item you want within like .5% of it's maximum potential, and finding something better becomes quite rare, so the only real way of progression is rng with maps (hope its zombies, hope its halls of agony or something), rare affix type/frequency, and paragon points. Only one of them is controllable, and the other two are irrelevant with the amount of time jumping in and out of greater rifts.
I honestly wish they would remove paragon points or cap them at 800, because they are frankly retarded past that point.

I dunno, I don't really have a problem with paragon levels as as HC player as I'm inevitably going to die pushing anyway. I do feel that they could be implemented better...
I love playing solo but every time I do I think to myself, "I could be making quadruple + XP for hour if I was in a 4-man right now..." Same with split farming and all that stuff.
Maybe paragon should have more categories for stat dumping so that you don't build up a bunch of useless points past 800? I hate that they're shared across all characters...doesn't reflect the work that I did with each char...
I'm having a blast playing a monk for the first time at level 70 HC after spending 500 hours on a SB crusader last season. I made a new one and thought to myself, when I was gearing up "do I really wanna do this again, even with the Cube?" So I rolled a monk. Previously the highest level I had gotten a HC monk was 45, lolol.
It's fun doing something different...though I know I'm eventually going to die .

The biggest problems with Paragons lies in the fact that every section has atleast 1 super unattractive bonus. Plus resource in primary is worthless for most classes. Attack speed or crit chance is unattractive depending on the build. Life per second is beyond worthless with how little you get per point. Then gold find is an absolute joke with how little gold is worth currently in game. All you need is 1 Vault and you have more gold than you'll need for the rest of the season.
|
Each section has bonuses which don't really seem useful. It seems to be a twofold problem: nothing to do with your paragon points after 800, and worthless stats that should be modified to have use.
I'm doing a Flame DS build and I certainly have a lot of use for attack speed . Life per second is great addition to life on hit...with the amount of attacks I perform per second...
Gold being a joke merits its own discussion, but suffice to say it is not really a currency and more a gateway, like so many other mats in D3.
But a single Vault does not give nearly enough gold to do everything you need to do...unless you're talking about the Boon?
|
People who haven't rerolled weapons until they hit like 50+ million per reroll are very quick to comment on how useless gold is, and people who have rerolled realise that they're right when they start making 100's of millions per hour farming t6 rifts lol.
|
1 Vault usually gets you more than enough gold to sustain upgrading gems + rerolling early on. Add in Boon which once you get geared can usually be slotted in somewhere casually while doing rifts and bounties without slowing you down at all. Thats not even mentioning things like Gilded Barons plus the decent amount of money you casually get while doing rifts/bounties.
Attack Speed is iffy. There's builds that definitely need it but there is others that dont. Attack speed as an Uliana monk is rather mediocre as all i really need it for using generator between SSS which is a solid 3.5ish seconds anyways. Its the same with Crit chance. Most Ulianas monks are running broken promises in their Cube which makes it a rather unattractive stat.
Life per Second isnt a bad stat, but the amount you get per paragon level is and the fact that it doesn't add a lot to your survivability as much as armor or resists do. It doesn't matter how quickly you regen life if you can't live through anything. Which I think says more about the flaws in paragon design at the moment more than a flaw in the stat itself.

I played a lot today. Ouch. + Show Spoiler +(I had to start clicking with my middle finger if the picture doesn't make it clear) ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ETIGss1.jpg)
Anyway so I made this monk a few days ago and now I'm trying to build it up but it looks like in order to be good these days you need to have these fairly big sets of gear. I have 4 of the Uliana set pieces for the exploding palm build, but that's not enough to make that build work. I have 2 pieces of the Thousand storms set which makes the fist of thunder build at least workable though weak. Stuff's cray yo.

I entered a normal rift just after leveling a crusader to level 70 yesterday, so i had really low dps. And my friend aggroed a pack of goblins without noticing. It was depressing to see goblins running around and not having enough dps to kill them. At least 10 goblins(including blood and gelatinous ones) ran away

I'm up to 5 billion gold on my seasonal, it's completely worthless. Even if a reroll costs me 50 mil, so what?

I hope everyone complaining about the lack of end game are playing HC. I always admitted it, but I just realized while reading a few posts that this may not be the case.

Goblins are a decent DPS gauge. If you can't kill them reasonably fast, your DPS is too low for that difficulty.
It can be more tricky in rifts due to the mob density though. The one thing I hate about rifts are the possible gatecamps. Once I entered a grift and was instantly greated by three elite packs (two blue, one with minions). Suffice to say I had to exit/reenter the rift a lot, wasting time.
It of course also happens outside of rifts. I not so fondly remember playing on the Dahlgur Oasis once and glimpsing the Keywarden on the edge of my screen, only to be Vortexed right to him and three elite packs all bunched right on top of each other. Instant death.

Idk, end game to me isn't perpetually making the same character and build because you died to one tick of jailer or something lame.

So I just realized there can be ancient armor as well, not just ancient weapons. That would make sense to progress into T8+ etc. along with those paragon points I guess. That's just how the game works, I don't think paragon points are a good thing in this game, but it's just another essential power creep you need if you push monster hp/damage that high.
My question is how do people get fully ancient sets of armor like Immortal King's or Helltooth's in a span of ~5 days since the start of a season? I'm not even done with regular Helltooth's, let alone ancient. Same goes for weapons. I cubed 400 Death's Breath's and only got like ~6 ancient weapons out of it all.

By gambling with shards. Fast 55+ grifts give a lot of shards.
Not that 55+ is best or shards but you do these anyway for XP.

Oh...the pain. I know that feeling . To have gone from ridiculous damage last season, to doing none at all...it is a huge pain.

There seems to be a much higher drop rate for ancients at T7+. If you're watching any sort of high ranked GR pusher they do A LOT of speed rifts and some of them supposedly bot. When you get to the point you can do 35+ rifts in under 5 minutes getting stuff isnt very difficult.

I feel you, I don't understand how quickly some people can farm. I know my completionist attitude hampers my farming efficiency so I'm trying to break that habit and just running past the stray white mob with a sliver of hp left rather than going back to punch him in the face. Still, it seems insane how fast people clear rifts and get gear sometimes (~5 minute rifts? I'm going to have to skip a lot of packs/item drops to do that aren't I?
Question about crafting mats, is it important to pick up whites and blues for reusable parts and arcane essence or is that a waste of time too?

Pick up some. You'll float on veiled crystals eventually, but I heard running out of arcane essence and reusable parts. especially if you'll cube yellows for a chance at an ancient weapon.
And yeah, they skip everything till they find a champ or elite, and do those until they get the rift boss to spawn. But to be fair all of them have ridiculous move speed on their characters. WW seasonal barbs are sick for example.

My friend and myself have been doing Uliana monk + UE demon hunter and can clear 40s in around 5 minutes. Its really not that hard if you have your full 6 set bonus on most characters with a good tile/enemy set. Key things are not worrying about straggling enemies, kill whats in your way and keep moving wasting 5-10 seconds to kill less than 5-10 mobs really isnt worth it, drag blues/yellows with you instead of standing there and fighting just that pack by itself since they will chase for quite a while and unless you can almost immediately blow them up its more efficient to kite them and slowly chip them down while killing trash. and finally dont worry about items on the ground unless you REALLY REALLY need them obviously legendaries/set items are the exception but you dont really need to pick up every white/blue/yellow that drops especially when veiled crystals drop like candy from rift guardians and whites/blues are easily farmed during bounties.
