Like how soon after PTR does it usually take? i'm kind of doubting it will be this year they don't have a clue what they are doing with the legendary gems and it doesn't seem like ladders will launch until then

opening once before now is equivalent to joining 5 rifts with the new system. so unless the expected frequency with which it was you to open in RiF was lower than 1 out of 5 runs, it will cost you less than before. the new system also means that there is no more discussion about who reopens, low chars are no longer disadvantaged in "lowest" RiFs, players with slow hdds are no longer disadvantaged in "last" RiFs and so on. it also means a large buff to solo-rifting since you no longer burn through your keystones more quickly compared to party rifts. overall, it means that solo rifting will be the better option compared to incompetent parties. which is not necessarily the case atm. so overall, i like this change.

You do realize that literally THE ONLY reason why RIF exists is so that runners can just run rifts and dont need to bother getting fragments? The fact that people can use RIF to get shards is nothing but side effect. Attraction needed for rifters to get what they want - and in 2.1 its going to be removed. R.I.P. RIF.

RIF. unless I misunderstood it was normal for one of the 4 who came in for the Guardian to open a new rift before leaving. So instead of a 25% chance to spend 5 shards you have a 100% chance to spend 1 shard. Looks like a net positive to me.

But again, the point was for the person actually running the rifts and inviting people to not ever have to spend any shards themselves. There is no advantage for anyone to actually solo run the rifts and then invite a bunch of other people to the rift guardian anymore. It just makes them take longer to finish the rift.

While you're correct, I really don't think a majority of former runners are going to be upset that you can now do five for the price of one. RIF may become quieter because the incentive for runners to invite people is obviously gone, but now it's just a generosity thing. I'll probably still invite people @RG when I run even though there's LITERALLY no reason to do so, other than just getting some folks some shards. I don't mind, doesn't hurt the runner in any way. The old idea of RIF is dead, and runners getting free rifts is dead, which is unfortunate. But rifts are so cheap now, I think it makes up for it.

It just makes them take longer to finish the rift. the runner had to open the first rift by himself. so to break even, each session of rifting had to consist of at least 5 rifts in a row. which kinda sucked. you are right in some other sense however: long rifting sessions will take the runner more keystones and there is no more incentive to invite random people to the rift boss. so solo-rifting will continue, but the actual rift it forward concept might no longer hold.

If there is incentive to run those rifts in groups, we might see a new community where runners run the rifts solo, and then invite people for the RG with the expectation that those people will stay in the party for the Tiered rift run. The incentive for runners will shift from free fragments for help clearing the tiered rifts.

Note if you plan on playing more than one category, choose the one that best fits. Obviously stuff will change from now until 2.1, but it'd be nice to get an idea. Poll: What will you be doing?
