When a season ends, the loot and other benefits will carry over to the normal game
only aquired loot or does the loot go to the nonladder loot table?
Not very interested in making new chars every few months when there is no trading or other multiplayer interactions.

I neither like how the class feels nor its reliance on OWE. If you don't mind the likely extra time it will take to be solo-material for higher torments, or are willing to be regarded as a follower in T6, then go for it. Blizzard hasn't really addressed monks and the latest word is there is no news regarding changes to the class (maybe I'm outdated on that info).
I'm not saying not to try it, just look around the monk subreddit and monk forums to be aware of the issues monks are facing and decide for you if that's okay right now.
Or just play anything else like I did. Monk survival feels incredibly razor's edge to me. Either fine or miserable. Switched back to DH, then Wiz, finally landed on WD and I'm enjoying that.

A blue said that 2.1 will be the patch that has the Monk changes.

Re-roll literally anything else are they in that bad of a state? Unless you're willing to play support to farm gear, it's rough. You need insane gear with 4 good rolls on all armor, OWE resist on all of it if possible to venture into T5/T6 alone.
Monks in BiS generatorless fire LTK do about as much DPS as a garg, although you can multiply that with stuff like CS/EP.
Lightning spec is more fun(you do more than hold down one button), but it doesn't scale past T4-T5 very well.
But if you can live with the fact that you have one endgame solo spec that takes ludicrously good gear, that still clears significantly slower than other classes, then by all means, play monk.

Monk is fine as long as you understand what you're getting yourself into: They have the worst class sets in the game by far. Dex is a subpar main stat to have (compared to Int or Str) and it's even worse when you're a melee class (meaning at least DH can make use of Dex/dodge because they're ranged). They have very good utility and their crowd control for groups is top notch, making a Monk a great addition to any party but they have immense trouble soloing. There's really only two elemental types to build Monk, fire and lightning. OWE makes enchanting frustrating at times, definitely the hardest class to gear optimally.
That said, if you still want to make a Monk, glhf. I have a friend in the clan, noobofhonor, who has played nothing except monk since D3 release. He runs Inna's and Ashaera's, essentially the definition of support aura bot. But hey, he has a lot of fun doing it.

Is this a TL community clan you speak of? I think someone was inquiring about it recently and I'm in the market for active group play T1+

I can only speak for <Liquid>, but generally there's 2-3 groups during peak hours, and skill level ranges from starting T1 to Zarth level.
Currently about a dozen or so people are group T5 capable(so long as I'm there to facetank), and probably by the end of this double leg week we could probably move onto T6.
On a side note it's nice to finally have the gear to solo T3 in under 10 minutes on a monk. I'll have to fully transition to lightning OWE to go up to T4/T5, but it's a start. I'll need to find inna's pants with a good roll, good OS/SoH, and craft new asheara's gloves/boots, and aughilds bracers to get there, and it will be painful, but it'll happen...eventually. Also hope that a lightning SoJ drops, because that would be sick.

Yes. Thanks for the Double Legendary drop rates, I've finally been able to make complete the Earth set and after taking it for a test run, I can see why it's the best set in the game.

Current plan is to swap my armour and gauntlets to Aughuild's for the defensive bonuses and roll a better Devastator. I'm going to look for better pants as well since Ashearas by themselves are rather pointless. Anyone have any suggestions for better pants to craft?

If you can fit blackthornes set in there that would be solid. Or captain crimson set. Would probably have to give up the boots you have now, and not sure if it would be worth it.
|
Captain Crimson looks good, though like you said, involves getting rid of Lut Socks and with it my biggest single source of damage. Blackthornes could also work since with Chest + Pants, I can still use Reaper's.

You can't give up Lut Socks for Leap/EQ Barb.
Edit: If you want BT, probably do Chest/Pants. A lot of Leap Barbs run Cassius belt. 6s of Ignore Pain is pretty gud when you're jumping into 2+ elite mobs. Edit: Actually Aughild Armor/Bracer + BT Belt/Pants is ok too. No room for Cassius then.

Maybe a perfect roll BT ammy with BT pants would work?

Considering all BT amu come with AS, LoH and %Life, you can hardly hope for a perfect BT amu.

Using BT Belts/Pants is really good. Only downside is I'll need to change from Chilinak's which is just so sexy.
Still Leap is pretty good for movement and it has a really short CD. Once in my life, I actually want the BT's set pieces to drop, who knew?

Are you leaning towards more Magic Missle or Meteor? While you will obviously be running both, one of these spells will be your primary dps and your equipment will reflect that. (e.g. Mirrorball vs Firebird's Eye)
