Edit: also diablos shadow clones are bonkers. Whole game I don't even see my hp drop, and kill everything super fast on expert. Get to diablo, take him to phase 2 within a minute. Enter phase 2. Shadow clones have 8 milion hp to our 20,000 dps. Slowing us for 80% and hitting insane damage. In the end it wasn't Diablo who killed us. We killed ourselves. I'm sad. | ||

I remember a few years back pre-orders would get shipped a little early so that people would get them by release date. But then too many people would end up getting the game early so I believe the game companies put a stop to that practice (not that it matters for something that's always on-line though =\). | ||

Cataclysm (2010) was stable immediately upon release, other than a long queue. I went to bed early for WotLK (2008) to play early the next day, but that was stable, too. Then again, Diablo 3 doesn't exactly have Blizzard's A-team. | ||

MMO expansions are different too, because the user base is a lot more consistent. It's one thing to go from 4 million players to 6 million. It's another thing entirely to go from 200k to 3mil. | ||

I went to bed early and woke up early the next day to play D3. It was like going to bed and waking up at normal working hours for me. Game was mostly stable aside for a 1-2 hour downtime around midday that I could've timed to coincide with lunch. | ||

I don't think the player base''s the difference with WoW, the real pain comes from playing the pre-expansion patch not launch. So it seems that other than random bugs and queue times launch is pretty stable. For Lich King patch 3.0 it was pretty bad, I recall they gifted half a week's play time to everyone as compensation. I don't remember Cata's pre-expansion, so maybe that wasn't so bad. But for MoP it was basically unplayable. Even days after the patch it would still take hours just to queue into and finish the pre-launch Scenario. | ||
