So basically perfectly rolled bracers I got after a couple of hundred crafts.
Plus that sexy weapon just dropped 20 minutes ago.

Edit: The b.net profile numbers are wrong. My helm has 6% crit, my boots have better % to firebats etc. Weird bug

They're nice but still inferior to crafted legendaries, like Demon's Revenge (my best attempt so far: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/bigg-2621/hero/2690685 ) ... I stopped crafting yellow items when I realized that legendaries roll way higher stats. Like, Sage's helm can roll over 500 int and vit.

Mostly, but for starters yellows are still very nice. You need to play alot to get Legendaries on all slots, its not like you get them free. Most legs are still pretty bad (mostly 2-Handers)

In order to make those legendaries you need to pick up the rare, magic, and white items for mats anyway. Some of them take quite a lot of materials actually.

And frankly before loot 2.0 it was all legendaries and crafted items that were BiS too so that didn't really change.

Before 2.0.1 you had to craft 1000 Items to get a BiS Rare. Now you craft like 5 and get a Upgrade.

That will always be the case unless all gear have the same stats

At which point it will be 100% of loot being useless.

Yellow loot is just stepping stone loot, but most popular streamers play so much that they either have full legendaries or crafted stuff at 60 so they don't need to pick up the yellows. If your not full legendary/crafted already then there will be quite a few yellow upgrade pickups along the way. I imagine that alot of the 61-70 yellows will end up being upgrades to the average lvl 60 player, especially those who just started playing again.

Unless they scaled item drops according to your items then 99% of drops will always be useless anyway.

Oh god... does it change much if I say 99.99999999999%?

The point is, and has always been, that as long as legendaries roll the same stats as yellows items + a legendary affix, yellow items will be strictly worse. A proper itemization would make rare items valuable for their raw numbers while legendaries provide gamebreaking effects, so that there is always a tradeoff.

The problem is that the vast majority of players don't play with the absolute best loot. There's a disconnect between the theoretical optimum and the average player experience which accounts for why Blizzard does things the way they do.

For the average player, there's a need for Blizzard to make the experience of getting a legendary feel good. Getting a legendary doesn't feel good if they regularly aren't upgrades and this has been a complaint about the game in the past. If you balance legendaries and rares to be of equal power, then consequently the legendaries you get will be downgrades as often as the rares (which is to say, most of the time). This is why the average power level of a legendary is higher than that of a rare.

The side-effect is that many top of the line legendaries are better than the top of the line rares, but this affects a far smaller portion of the playerbase than the general need for rolling legendaries to feel rewarding. And because Diablo 3 is not a competitive game, there's not really an argument for the game experience for these players being more important than the average player.

what are you talking about, when you have top 1% gear, 99% will always be useless.

also, we allready had diablo 3 with yellow dominated loot and it failed.




and you cant just buy legendaries, you have to find them. Finding a whole set of useful legendaries is something that maybe 1% of they players will do.

Alrite, this makes more sense now. I could have sworn that pre-loot 2.0 there were a few slots where Rare's could basically be BiS (Amulet, Gloves depending on class?). Anyways, I get the rationale for making legs BiS, and as long as Rares still have a place in the gearing cycle then that's fine by me.

We played different games then. After patch 1.04 (or 1.05, whatever) rare items were viable for 4-5 slots (jewelry, one weapon for DW builds, gloves...), then the crafting patch came out and there was some more options, mainly for bracers and shoulders. Everything else was legendary, so there was a certain balance that I liked.
