Looking forward to it, I recall participating in the D2 beta so it would be nice to keep the tradition going

Pretty sure it's going to be an announcement of an announcement of the beta.

I reserved a domain name today for a community website. www.diablogaming.com If anyone is interested in helping out let me know. The main goal is to make the site attractive enough to have consistent traffic once the beta kicks in. (Great home page, clean layout, vBlulletin forum - A ranking system depending on contribution and etc)
If this interests you pm me or leave a reply here. I don't plan on making this website a money whoring site. This will be entirely for accomplishment sake and to enjoy the game we all love and have passion for.
If you love gaming and are interested in contributing let me know ! There are tons of work to be done, and the can certainly be lightned by the community's help. Web designers, logo/banner designers, forum admins, etc.
Thanks, hope to get in touch

Diablo 2 Hardcoer was the best game ever. If you didn't play Hardcore, you didn't play Diablo.
And they should allow TPPKing in D2 Hardcore. That was awesome.
Sadly I don't think any game will ever be as good as D2X-HC, largely in part because the beauty of the game lay within the hacked, broken faults of it (duping SOJs creating a tradeable and easily liquid economic facilitator via fiat currency, TPPKing making hardcore more interesting and dramatic and.... hardcore, completely overpowered and imbalanced spells making dueling awesome, predictable level design making grinding/maphack easy to make many characters to flesh out the game, et cetera).
When I saw the "Arena" feature i was SORELY dissapointed. If I wanted to play some team, BS game I'd play WoW or TF2. Diablo was awesome because it you were on your own... you couldn't trust anyone, or risk getting pk'd 99% of the time and then losing your character permanently in hardcore. So awesome. Nothing more satisfying than being a punk'd newb, eventually getting good, finding the pker who killed you, and killing them, and then selling their ear on ebay for cash money for bragging rights. Maybe not many people did that besides me lol...

you more than likely liked to pick on people weaker than you
Word, man. By the way I am looking forward to Diablo 3 too. I played d1 mostly. Didn't have time for d2 yet. Only classical games you see. D3 gonna be multiple splash dmg on larger radius to enemys am I right?

Pro is a funny term. In sc2 a "pro" is a pro-gamer, meaning they play so well that they actually get paid to compete in tournaments.
What about a game like wow? There were arena players who were sponsored by teams (e.g. Dignitas, Complexity). There are hardcore raiders who don't get paid but push for world firsts. Then there are the guys who do get paid who are just gold farmers. It's their source of income - are they "pros"?

it's all about context. in the case of sc2, the term 'pro' has come to describe a player whose skill is high enough to earn them prize moneys. there are of course other 'professional' ways to make money via gaming, but the term 'pro' doesn't really fit that description.

Hardcore might be great for people that have all the time in the world to waste. As I only played D2 starting in 2009, I found the controls so terrible, even when I got used to them, I had no desire to "get good" at it. But after reading your story, I do feel like a lesser gamer.

Pssh nj has probably made several millions on D2. His handle was bterrill and he had a bunch of item shops etc. There were several people like him, there were two brothers who had their own thing on useast, I never knew them well, but they had more business than him.
A lot of the old USEast whitelisters were bigtime sellers, thats why people trusted them because they didn't have a reason to scam, they had accounts full of highrunes.

Btw, the conference call is on May 9th, not May 8th.

Maybe not many people did that besides me lol... edit: Also by the way, you more than likely liked to pick on people weaker than you. I would guess that very rarely (if ever) you intentionally fought someone you thought might be able to kill you. Real D2 pvp'ers know that the best PvP'ers are on softcore, not hardcore. The best PvE'ers are definitely on hardcore though.
Granted in Hardcore most people did prey on the weak since more is at stake. To inform you tho back when i played in its heyday the hardcore scene had a vary important section of private hardcore pvp'ers. In softcore the collection of easily geared and risky players in pvp was hysterical in the eyes of hardcore pvp'ers. I myself had a 98HC priv dual sorc and would setup games and watch priv duals and they are worlds apart from the SC crap fest i would see.
To the comments about gearing and time, most priv dual rules were setup so friends lvl1 would get loot privileges so gear wasn't lost or to your enemy depending on what was at stake. Plus back then with so much people playing and friends you could make a 85-90 character in like 1 sitting in HC was normal. Just because in HC you can die doesn't mean people could rush and get high level with no gear and stats put in.
For me personally i lost a LOT of characters and gear no cheats no hacks and in a HC duals everything is different it was easily the most exciting thing D2 had to offer. The best part about it was when you took out the well know 95+ guy Ears meant something!
ps. also killing your friends and having their ears was Hilarioouusss

actually i made 43-48k a year for 3 years in just auctioning Diablo 2 items.. 200k is a bit of a stretch but if the guy had help or ran 15-30 bots 24 hours a day this could easily be done. I ran 7 bots myself and had plenty of Very rare items to auction constantly. I only put about 30 hours of actual work in per week that isn't a lot for the kind of money i was pulling in. yes i was that guy who made money of digital goods i was young and stupid besides i didn't even think about the consequences of my actions until an FBI agent showed up at me front door asking me to give him the information on how i was making so much money without a good job. working at a restaurant as a server doesn't give you the kind of income i had. all in all i got to keep the money i made but was forced to stop or suffer a class 3 felony charge.
