i started playing diablo 1 back in 1997, and had my first experianced of love for gaming. Later i was introduced to starcraft and was swinging between the two games. once diablo 2 came out i played the damn game for 10 years on and off. When lord of destruction came out I didnt see sunlight for a full year or so. in 2006 i started playing pvp and rabbitly got good - didnt do anything els then owning public duel games till late 2010 where i had made my self a name in the community where i am still active the day today. If you have played on a high level of pvp 2008-2010 i most likely have killed you a dusin of times. i stopped playing diablo dec 2010 when i experianced too much lag with b.net 1.0 and decided to buy another game... starcraft 2 . I had so great items, and was so highly skilled i was able to kill people who BM'd, and used hacks. In my life i belivee i have leveld over 100 chars to over 80 and 30 of them over 90. never getting 99 cuz i was too busy pvping. I look forward to d3 - gain fame as i will with garantee end up among the best of the best. Due to my almost 15 years of experiance.

So you weren't really a pro (as in making money pro), you were just a hardcore gamer.

not money, but gamer currency. Forum Gold to be more specific. which is used for maaany games. But diablo in particular. I singed up for tons of tournaments for the abolut best of the best. For example. I had a Sorc vs All completing in a Sorc vs Sorc leauge and still doing fine spite i had maxblock which has no use in sorc vs sorc. Using a build never seen before, being cheap and extremly effective. No i did not make real life cash off diablo but i did win some tournaments and gained currency which otherwise had to be bough with money. Having a account worth approx 2500 dollars in items, charms and rare collector items. earned over years.

You don't have to be crazy expert, but just love the game and know how to do some web-designing. Pm me if your free during the summer and willing to do this for fun.
Thanks

ok, but still "pro" is not the right word.. your a hardcore player.... if you are a "professional" at something it means you make a living off doing it.. as in it's your "profession"... it's the meaning of the word..
you can't make a living off of playing diablo II... so no there are no such thing as diablo II "pros"... just playing a game a shitload while being supported by your parents or another job doesn't mean your a "pro"..
in BW & SC2 calling people professionals is appropriate because if your good enough you CAN make a living off it from tournament winnings & coaching etc.. as in you don't need to have another source of income or someone supporting you and you can still get by day to day.. might not be the best living in a lot of cases.. but a living nonetheless.. try doing that with diablo II..
Hate to be nitpicky.. but it bothers me when people misuse the term "pro"..

They aren't misusing the word, but are simply using it to mean someone is good. Profession as job is only one meaning of the word. Hell, some think "professional" should only apply to teachers, engineers, lawyers, doctors, and reporters. In that context it carries even more weight than something you do for a living.

I wonder if they'll make efforts to prevent people selling items over the internet for real money. I hope it's somewhat similar to wow in that there's a distinction between pve and pvp items.

Runes and gems will probably be the main currency although blizzard did say that they wanted gold to actually be worth something in d3 so we'll have to see how that works out I dont know what they could do to people who buy/sell runes and gems tho :\

Diablo 3 looks pretty good...sad no paladin though :/ My favorite characters have always been the knights. Keeping it class with shiny armor, shields, and swords.
the best char to solo uber tristram, hells yeah.
Never have I in my entire time playing D2 have my heart beat faster than soloing it in a pub Hard Core game after everyone else is dead. 20/20 Storch made it so rewarding =D

My friends family made a living just farming items and selling them on the internet (ebay etc.). I don't have figures but he made enough to keep up mortgage on their house, and feed the family etc.

PC gamer actually did an article during the heyday of that era. People were making a lot of money selling ever quest and d2 items, it was thought of pioneering a way to make gaming a profession and allowing players to support their competitive games by having games they could finance their needs through.
However that was before the rise of the Chinese farmer community and game enforcing bans on profiting. China killed the profitability with cheap labor and their methods of often compromising accounts put the final nail in the coffin for it being legitimate. Well that and the government inquiries on how to tax virtual property (since it was now being tied openly to actual money), as well as companies having a hard time finding a way to make money off it themselves, which was amusingly the smallest portion of the considerations)
