Been waiting this for almost 10 years now, pretty sure it can't be worse than 13 so that's something.

Kind of want it on PC but I guess I'l pick it up for Xbox if they don't provide information on PC release date before it hits on consoles.

Just worried it takes couple years to come on PC and just end up being a poor port.

yeah its not corridors like in FF13 its roads now !

Lost interest in Jrpgs over the years, but FF15 battle system interests me hmpf.

FF13's battle system was interesting and the one highlight of that game. The progression was sort of dull, but the system was neat. The rest of that game was HOT GARBAGE.

Yeah, I don't mind linearity, its the illusion of a world you need to convey. The fact theres like no towns, no characters, no world.... its just UGH.

The "open world" aspect of FF games was all an illusion anyways. Of course make there to be places to explore and context to the world, but moving me from zone to zone in a car isn't really a problem.

13 had the problem that there was nothing to do but press up to move forward.

Yeah, thats what I mean. Like in FF4 and FF6, when you first get to the world map, it FEELS like a huge expansive world thats ripe for the taking, but you can only really go to 1 place. Thats why FFX is a much better game in that sense, even if its just as linear.

It's like you guys never even picked up FFXII. That was my first full game into FF series (Had a couple of the discs to VII, VIII but never played them all the way). FFXII is super open. Just the story wasn't there to make you really care about the main character Vaan but you cared about Balthier and Ashe and even Fran to an extent. The world was beautiful, had towns to explore, had NPCs to talk to. Had everything. Was heavily slept on IMHO

I'm super psyched to see Yoko Shimomura (Mario RPG, Kingdom Hearts series, Parasite Eve, Xenoblade Chronicles, etc) listed as the composer. She's part of my holy trinity, including Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda. I don't have a PS4, so I haven't experienced any of FFXV besides youtube, but I expect to lose myself in the soundtrack in mid-game.

When people say they really miss/want an open world and people counter with, 'well, it was never really open actually, it was just an illusion', it's like, okay?

So people actually only want a convincing illusion of an open world? That doesn't change anything, you're putting different words to people's feelings but those feelings don't go anywhere and they remain valid. They want an illusion that an overworld was, right or wrong, somehow providing and the modern shoestrings are somehow not giving them.

Maybe they will crack the code and figure out how to make a shoestring that feels good and open and explorable. Maybe with good NPCs and towns and stuff they can do it. Their track record is not good on that front, though.

For me a good Final Fantasy has a good story.

XIII was kinda fun to play, I didn't mind the linearity, the combat system and the music was cool. But the story just didn't hook me.

If the story is good, I will be happy, the combat system and class system varied so often in FF, I don't really care about that. There were always enough optional quests and bosses towards the end of the game anyway, regarldess if it's open world or not.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

"That doesn't change anything". That changes a LOT. If you can convince that this world is a vibrant big thing and you're a part of it. It's like... playing a game with no enviornmental textures. Its the EXACT same gameplay, but without those textures, the immersiveness is nil and thats important in an RPG.

The fact theres no town, gossip, NPCs, characters, dialogue off the beaten path, is just...boring and dreadful.

Wait, really? I thought they scrapped that when they rebranded the game to FFXV. Wow, I must have missed something.

The characters were pretty bad, but just the story itself was weird imo. The whole Fal'Cie and L'cie stuff or whatever, it just didn't click for me. You had to read the book in the game to somewhat get what it was all about.

The new and simpler setting about a prince, who has to reclaim the throne, already sounds a lot better to me. Let's see what they make out of it. Since they are doing an anime and a movie, they do have a lot to tell it seems.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Yeah, they pulled the plug on that during the development of other two 13 games. This game has been in development hell, but I think they completely reworked it after the last one was received so poorly. It looks like a way more focused game than any of the FF games in a while.
