re: Xin builds
Jungling I usually go: cloth armor + hp pots madred's razors boots recurve bow merc treads Banshee's Veil Omen/GA Finish Bloodrazors Omen/GA (whichever I didn't get before)
Lanning I usually go: D-Shield/Boots Boots Recurve Bow Mercs Banshee's Veil Omen/GA Bloodrazors Omen/GA (whichever I didn't get before)
I've been futzing around with masteries and runes lately, but I like Attack Speed on both Marks and Quints (since I build for BRs, not Armor Pen). Seals and Glyphs are tricky, but I think Dodge Seals + MR/level glyphs is probably the way to go with builds like mine.

Just keep firing it and your oponent will eventually have to go heal, don't take to much hits lasthitting and fire your E as soon as it gets up together with Q. It really is just spamming, i also strengthen my early game by going clarity/teleport, clarity allows me to stay on the lane spamming q for quite a length of time, go back teleport back losing only 2/3 creeps, hold out till clarity, use clarity, you can keep on the lane endlessly and its really hard to gank kassadin at lvl 6. Silence also ruins peoples days.
I'm a noob but I feel like cleanse is pretty much a must have ability for kassadin. With cleanse up, you're pretty much ungankable since you can just blink away from danger.

the only things they have in common are: 1) spears! 2) it's their job to jump and kill the opposing carry
Xin's base ability scaling is nuts. He doesn't need items to be an efficient damage dealer. Pantheon on the other hand is blessed with good scaling off of items are horrific base stats. The result? Late game Xin lasts forever and does a ton of damage regardless. Panthoen is killable by a stiff breeze.

I think Apen is really important on Xin, and I don't like the Bloodrazor much.
The good thing about Xin is that he can go behind lines to those squishes pop R and a Q combo and drop them nearly dead. Most of Xins team fight viability comes from R anyway, so you want to hit it as hard as possible.
Focusing on ATSP runes and CDR items I also don't like. When are you attacking without interruption that attack speed play a role early one? Except if you are jungling of course. And going CDR on items is also debatable, most of your CDR comes from your W skill anyway for free, so shouldn't you be trying to build around landing more hits for your W instead? So I'd rather take a quicksilver slash or frozen mallet depending on your summoners so you can stay on your target, regardless of CC and do as many auto hits as possible to reduce your cooldowns.
Frozen Mallet is surprisingly not bad on xin, even if I wouldn't recommend it always, but xin already has awesome Armor and MR with his ult for 8 seconds, and since often nobody buys heavily into Mpen or ArPen buying more armor or mr scales soo badly, and going HP at this point is way more cost effective.

re: the past 8 pages
don't jungle xin. don't philo stone ashe, don't max hawkshot before useful skills. don't get rylai on a champ whos only single target spell is a suppression. i'm with caller, the next person to build a manamune on (taric/alistar/miss fortune/pantheon/malzahar/eve/gangplank/multiple other champs) as first item, especially starting mana crystal, gets to meet my Bony Knux.
edit:

no. it's too expensive. xin should hog red buff and buy items that allow him to UTILIZE his skills (aka items that let him survive (AKA TANK ITEMS)). if you can dash in, ult 3-5 people, and pop one up, you've done your job as xin, because likely by that point you've eaten like 12 ultimates and 50 skills on the way in and out

True. But I don't really have a problem with Pantheon or Xin. I can usually carry with either of them because if I play one of them my team always has a heavy magic nuker, since I always play with at least one friend (yes, I actually have more then one) we can arrange it like that.
Either they buy armor and let the caster kill them or they buy MR and let me kill them. Can't stack both early enough without completely ignoring some key damage item in your own build unless you get fed like crazy in which case its a lost game anyways.

He doesn't need mana (rendering Cata/RoA less important), yet he needs survivability, and he has a single-target spell (E) that's not suppression as well as a spell (W) that benefits from any sort of snare however little it may be.

I wonder how good manamune is on corki thou. Haven't had the chance to test it out.

not only that, but rylais works on all 3 of his other skills... nothing like getting perpetually slowed by dot tics, as well has having his pool and purple walls do aoe slow
edit: am i missing something here? i thot aoe spells still slowed, but had lower percentage?

dfg + RoA->zhonya->void staff imo imo imo imo

DFG provides no survivability and is not a high priority on him, especially as a first item. RoA is not that important on him due to the lack of need for mana. Hence, you're looking at RoA vs Rylai vs Banshee, so to speak, and of the three, RoA seems by far the least attractive for Mal.

opening meki -> manamune is legit, stop bitching people.

dfg provides survivability in the form of offense, a quicker end to a single opponent. if you blow all of your spells and the enemy xinzhao/olaf/jax/warwick survives, you're dead in less time than you can say "suppression." if you have a powerful combo that only needs to do 2/3 of their health, max, then you're gonna get it. less effective in a teamfight, you are probably right it doesn't need to be rushed, but every malz i've ever feared got dfg at some point.

also IIRC his E applies the slow for the full duration of the E, rather then just 2 seconds that a normal spell would

it reapplies the slow on every tick iirc. I think with treads it's like, slow, recover, reslow, recover, reslow, etc.

His magic resistance and armor are increased by 30/40/50 for the next 8 seconds.
Looks like I was incorrect. ^^
That's actually kind of a shame, because now he is just like pantheon. Buy a little bit of armor and he becomes very lack-luster. Of course his AoE abilities are infinitely better
too bad xin will always be a bigger threat to squishy carries than pantheon.

the slow normally lasts 2 seconds, with merc treads it would be 1.2, the ticks of E are more frequent than 1.2 so you wouldnt even have time to recover before it re-applies the slow
