But putting that aside, there`s no arguing that infinity edge is a good item for ranged carry. Having a single shot hit particularly hard is very valuable as it`s more OOMPH when it hits and harder to react to, so it`s not always just about the damage-per-second. If both teams are poking at each other, infinity edge becomes particularly valuable because you only get 1 attack in maybe 10 seconds. If you want to talk about reliable DPS, infinity edge definitely creates a huge gap between lowest and highest potential damage within x amount of hits. Someone like tristana can make good use of the high potential damage output because she can venture 3 or 4 hits with her god-range and if she gets unlucky with the dice, she just bails. If she gets lucky, commit and finish them off. | ||

By the way, for the above conversation, IE + LW is the strongest DPS setup in the game, bar none. Brutalizer is far from standard on DPS carries, in fact it's only relatively common on Ashe, mainly for laning purposes and for Volley. BR is the strongest single-item DPS item in the game, as it's the only damage item that gives you significant attack speed. AS vs Crit vs APen depends on the hero being played. Ezreal runs APen for instance because it's more important to make every Q hit harder. Kog runs AS because abusing double BR on AS is chic. Twitch depends on favored build - IE Twitch runs Crit% because you get enough AS from W and R, although azn's BR Twitch favors AS for obvious reasons. Edit: lol it's back. | ||

Cost efficiency aside, the reason why some champions get Bloodthirsters and Infinity edge instead of atma's impaler is because of the following: 1) the raw damage is higher them usually and synergizes better with killing people faster 2) the champions that want IE are usually so squishy that if they get attacked at all they're probably dead anyway with or without the armor from atma's. 3) IE is the single highest dps item you can get in a single item slot. As a result an endgame ranged physical carry will look to get that because it won't be replaced. About unique passives: They ALWAYS stack (to the best of my knowledge) UNLESS they are sheen/trinity/lichbane or Tear's of the Godess's maximum mana pool passive OR are from the EXACT SAME ITEM. Example: All unique passive mp5 items (soul shroud, mana manipulator, etc) will stack if you have 1 of each. All items with unique passives that reduce cooldowns (frozen heart, brutalizer, yomumu's, deathfire grasp, etc) will stack even if the numbers are the same. | ||

Maybe there is a much better combination, Wit's End comes to my mind, at least against Mana users. GB/B/LW should actually be pretty close to IE/LW too. IE + LW is a consistent and reliable setup that is strong against pretty much everyone, but I wouldn't say it's always the best setup. | ||
