1. Galio's Ult does damage if interrupted? I'm -pretty- sure it does damage when cancelled, but confirmation on that would also be nice.
2. If LW still affects Sivir Ricochet? APen affected it the last time I checked, but unsure about LW now, since Phreak made a post saying LW was for on-hit effects. 1) I don't think so. If it doesn't finish channeling it shouldnt do any damage. (it's not like nunu's ult) 2) No, Sivir's Ricochet never applied any on-hit effects. The damage it does is based on how much damage the first hit does. I do not believe it is affected by armor or anything else, it just does flat damage based on how hard the first hit was. I'm at least 99.9% sure that you're wrong about the bolded part of #2. Just think about it, if you crit, you don't see any extra damage on your ricochets. You're right that it has never applied on hits, but I'm almost completely sure that ricochet bounces do a % of your AD and take Armor and Armor Pen into account. Note that this still means that ricochet has never taken Last Whisper into account because Last Whisper has always (or at least since the day Pantheon came out) been only on-hit. Phreak's explanation as to why this is is simply that LW vs. towers was deemed IMBA so they made it an on-hit type thing to make it not work on towers.
And I think Galio's ult tickles you a little if you interrupt it. I dunno, there always seems to be a little damage when I turn on Q and jump in there with Garen, but I'm not really sure how it works since it's always mid-teamfight and I can't really figure out where AoE damage is coming from.

Galio's ult doesn't re-taunt (contrary to what some people have been moaning) and it does damage based on the number of hits Galio takes - thus, if you taunt 3 melee heroes but Garen with DS is the first to hit you, you'll have taken a whole 1 hit and it does like 20 damage (or whatever it was per hit).
On the flip side if you taunt 5 people, none of them Cleanse, and you get the full duration off you destroy them.

i think they should let you cleanse out of his ult, but you shouldnt be able to merc treads -> walk out of it.

If you couldn't Merc it it'd be the longest snare in the game, so they'd have to lower its duration to like <2 (because even Shen's taunt is <2), because the two main points of comparison are Amumu (who has a root, not a full-fledged disable + position control) and his 2.5, and Alistar/Malphite's hard disables that only last like 1.8 and 2 seconds respectively or something (numbers may be a bit off).

You've never played Galio, huh Utah :> You're soooooooooo off
IMO, the ult should taunt continously, and deal AoE damage per hit on Galio. Otherwise, there's no point in channeling it right now as many have said.
Thanks about the LW, Ricochet seemed a lot weaker than before when I started playing again some 2 months ago :<
Edit: It wouldn't be a problem if it's the longest snare, since the thing is Channeling.

Utah's probably played Galio, he just doesn't give a fuck cause he was probably busy runnin' down Ezreal or something.

Nunu's ult doesn't snare continuously, and it works almost the same way. I don't see people complaining about that!
And it's not a snare, it's a hard disable, and there's no precedent for total disables (that even force you to move in a certain direction!) that have a giant AoE with a duration that trumps Malphite's ult. It's a balance issue. Hell, you're the one that complained about how it "felt even gayer than Amumu" when you first ran into him lol :D
Edit: I mean by that logic you shouldn't be able to Cleanse Mal/WW's ults, because they should re-stun...
Wait that's called suppression, which they still haven't put in, and they insinuated if they do they'd have to nerf the ults for balancing purposes. Oops!

Nunu's has longer range, and it slows continously :<
|
Wasn't Shen's taunt upped to 2.5 seconds?
By continuous taunt, do you really mean "unable to cleanse/quicksilver + walk/flash out of it"? Because that's what happens if you cleanse the taunt and get taunted again immediately. That would be so devastating (read: imba) unless you have a character with long range disable.

You sure? I've always Cleansed off the snare and walked out...
Hmm...

1) Nope, Feint was. Taunt still goes 0.8 to 2. (edit: fixed, wow I dunno what I was thinking when I put in 1.2) 2) Yes that's what he means, and some people seemed to believe that's what it already does (from yesterday's posts complaining about Galio).

For some reason I wanna say I've had the damn thing reapply to me, but at the same time that wouldn't make sense with the merc treads behavior we see with the move. zzzz, w/e, I play tanks. Tanks don't care about that shit.
|
The range might need to be reduced to 400ish, but right now the problem is there's no point in channeling because Cleanse/Sash/Treads crushes his ult so easily, and you do normal damage without channeling anyways. I just ran in with Malph a few games ago, instant Sash/Ult on Galio everytime he tried to ult us.

His Nether Blade active effect gives me armor penetration. Does this AP effect my spells? Or just my normal attack...I haven't been using it at all, I don't get the first rank til Q and E are maxed, but if it is just for his melee attack, it seems pretty worthless.
Kassadin's W is just some strange "fix" they tried to give to throw him a bone. It's useful when you're by yourself trying to build up E charges. It's useful when you're attacking tower. Hell, it's even somewhat useful to begin your damage combo (because you usually get in 1 melee hit, rarely 2).
Other than that, consider it one of the worst skills in the game (because of its placement on Kass). Armor penetration only affects physical damage - all of your abilities (98% of your damage) do magic damage. So Magic Penetration will help you, but not armor penetration.
Its best use (as stated a couple of times earlier in the thread) is for when you solo lane and you want to get 3 quick levels of Q and just spam spam spam Q. Getting W at lvl 2 allows you to build up mana with your last hitting, allowing you to spam Q.
==============================
So I bought Malphite on a whim, and he rocks hard. Not sure how he played before, but he feels like a really strong high-damage tank. Dunno why they recommend Doran's Shield for him, that seems like the lamest item possible to get for him. The hp5 does absolutely nothing.
I get Doran's Ring + health potion and my strategy is to send someone in my lane back to base. Nothing on the Ring is wasted, the AP gives you extra damage on your Q and your R. At lvl 1 I Q a little here and there to see which one is weakest. At lvl 3, I get my second lvl of Q, and it hits like a goddamn freight train! I just spam it like mad, and can almost always send someone back, even with a Taric in lane (with some help from my lanemate).
In poke wars, he is the winner so far. Haven't seen a champ who can beat him in this aspect. The reason is his passive. You just take no damage... like at all. Pantheon fires off his Q and it does 0 damage and has no effect. Meanwhile, he just got slammed in the throat with a brick. At lvl 3 Q, you can zone just about anyone except Mordekaiser and really tanky tanks.
Some other advantages of Q spammage: you can escape from and chase Singed (!!!), Udyr, Kennen etc.
Items are pretty easy on Malphite. Against balanced teams I just get HoG and eventually build into Randuin's. I try to get 100-150 armor or MR before turning to building Health items so I sometimes stick with base items like Negatrons. Against pure magic teams (yeah I actually got an AoE gimmick in 5-man normals), I find that turning a Negatron into an Abyssal later on helps a ton with the damage you lack (from not stacking armor) and is very helpful for the rest of your team by providing free Magic Pen for them.
Malphite's initiation combo is just devastating, and no tank has anything like it. You R into a group, then hit W->E (if you have a level of W already). Against a heavily physical team (where you stack lots of armor like Frozen Heart etc.), you do insane damage. Your E does +70% of your armor in damage. Your W gives you +20-40% more armor (and base attack damage, which is kind of cool too). Awesome saucesome combo. Malphite is my favorite tank now (even more favorite than Singed, but only slightly).

What a solid pun.
When I jungled with Malph back in the day (actually the guide should still be linked) I used to open Aegis, and it's still probably a good opener on him. As I mentioned a day or two ago, he's still a very good tank, and one of the best in the game, but he's more of a hard-counter to physical DPS (Ashe, Trist, Kog) and not so much against pokers (Ezreal), and ofc his primary effect in teamfights doesn't do much to tanks and casters.
|
the current trend of beefy dps being greater than squishy ones seems to make malph a much better pick tho, ppl like xin, loaf (to a lesser extent), morde, ww (sorta, he does a good bit of magic too, but malph seems to do pretty well against him), urgot, and others im sure im forgetting.
also, there seems to be a lot of bashing on galio's ult, but it does a great job of keeping ppl in a relatively small circle for the short period of time needed to cast some boss aoe spells. Galio x fiddle or kat or nunu or vlad or xin (basically insert super aoe ult here) is pretty dirty, so i think ppl are using it too much as a dmg dealing spell and not enough as a setup for a stronger aoe ult.
edit: o morg is pretty sweet with galio too, me and guitar wrecked some kids earlier with that combo
|
The majority of damage tanks don't damage with auto-attacks. For instance, -40% attack speed does nothing to Garen and Mord and Singed and Amumu. Either way you're stuck with a situational counter, which was my point to begin with
|
wasnt saying malph was a hard counter, but some of those guys (i.e. garen esp) deal dmg based on their AD and do physical dmg, and since malph loves stacking armor, it makes him a more decent pick than he used to be against said teams
also, malph got some sexy buffs recently which helps as well
|
Given the choice of running Malphite or some other tank against a team with Garen/Singed/Morg/Udyr/Taric, for instance...
That's all *shrugs* He's a good hero but IMO he's sorely outshined by other tanks at the moment.

Alright, I give up.
I've been trying to make my patcher work the whole day, and it keeps getting stuck at LOL.Patcher 11/12 I think I'll go play BW D:
I'm currently downloading the EU version, hopefully I'll be able to play it :D
