Like the reason why I go for GA after SS is because getting the GA bits (mainly Chainmail and Mantle) give really nice survivability for relatively cheap. I'm not sure which is better, Cata or Chain/Mantle, obviously, I've been opting in favor of Chain/Mantle because I think armor/MR is more valuable than straight HP. I mean as it is, for me it's like Ring + Sorc + SS + RoA vs Ring + Sorc + SS + GA. I've obviously been opting for the latter. Every once in a blue moon I get a longer game. Obviously running GA means I'm not as prepared for the longer game, as opposed to RoA. That's my reasoning for opting off of RoA on Kassadin. Edit: Also instead of having Sapphire opening I have Ring, so are we looking at Sorc + SS + RoA vs Ring + Sorc + SS + GA? | ||

pure HP > Armor/MR at early levels. Once you hit 2.5K-3K HP, then the additional armor/MR investment is worth it.  This is basic. | ||

I am banking a lot on early kills, but as said the build I was running was a straight SS/GA synergy build that was all-in on SS. For the most part I feel like I've been doing remarkably fine building stacks, especially once teamfights break out (takes very little time to roll up to 20), the problem actually began late-game when I'd have like 400 AP and it wasn't enough to carry. It's also why you see me do some random stuff like go Void -> Rylai, or Abyssal (to counter Annie/Veigar/Anivia/etc.) to be more tanky and to maximize effectiveness of what AP I have. Edit: Also that 2.5/3k mark is interesting. Hmmhmmhmm I've been instinctively following something like that on all my tanking. Hahah. Edit: And, ofc, you see how I play him like a tank, because I don't trust other tanks to initiate (because they DON'T friggin pussies). orz | ||

Guardian angel and then keeping a fort elixir on hand as "backup HP" will net the biggest EHP for the lowest cost, definitely. | ||

If you really like ashe, i suggest getting double mp5p lvl runes and rest armor pen, that way you can skip the catalyst and open doran's blade/shield + pot. If you build catalyst first, your damage will lack early>mid as a carry and will be stuck as a support role. | ||

The thing is that while these things are not optimal for defense they are a good compromise to squeze in some survivability without gimping your effectivness - unless you are a Tank where Survivability IS effectivness one way or another. | ||
