What the hell is people's obsession with "tryhards" anyway?
I get the notion, but "tryhard" is as overused as "cheese", or "abusive", perhaps even more.
I ganked a jungling Olaf who thought he could solo dragon without any sort of ward or watching the river. Enemy team starts swearing at me for being a "tryhard".
I creepjack a Kayle who was at 10% health while finishing off the lizard. Tryhard bitch I must be! He was texting!
Seriously, am I not allowed to try to win a game? Should I ask my opponent's permission before attacking them? What the fuck is this obsession with playing uber casual? I'm sorry your balls hurt after I smashed them, but justifying it as me "tryharding" and you not is just stupid.

I didn't get oracles for the team and I was only in about half the teamfights plus it was my third game with singed so there's a lot going on there besides any one of us slipping up.
Well, I didn't buy oracle's either, and I was also tanking.
Of course, the next game I play I'm 3/0/3 at the 20 minute mark, tank beautifully...and lose a nexus race (!!) because our Mundo decided to attack their inhibitor (!!!).
Sometimes I hate this game.

They're just mad you won, don't worry about it.

I think of tryhard as just a joke, why so serious >_>

That's exactly what I'm saying. So why is calling people "tryhards" so widespread? I hear it in SC2 also!

I started using it when hotshotgg was smurfing and his whole team did 5x sunfire capes and their opponents had a ryze who was beating hotshot in mid and so he was tryhard o_O no idea where it's originally from, hilarious either way <3

I refuse to use the term. It sounds like too much of an insult that a sore loser would use.
and I concider myself casual. If someone told me to use one character over another because they're better at winning, they also should be just as fun or more fun to play.
Heimer for example.. I've put in about 15 games with that character and he's definitely OP but massively boring. I won't play him again even if that means getting kicked off a team.

I consider myself pretty tryhard normally, but I just love the term so I'll use it ^_^

lolol i literally just lost to the stupidest team but it worked due to heimer.
they had an ezrael/eve/shaco/twitch/heimer, and since heimer can stop any push 1v3 basically and if we split up to push lanes they were stronger, so there was literally no way we could push. Then everyone had 150+ creeps and since they were all carries they naturally won teamfights easily. Funny, but upsetting at the same time.

I think I lost either to that very setup or to a similiar one, I remember our pantheon who was top around lv 4 going "I got oracles now we can see them!"...

I can't initiate with Kassadin for shit - either you run in and risk being nuked to death to riftwalk out or you riftwalk in an unload your spells and you're essentially dead. But I indeed play a "glass cannon" (tho recently it occured to me that if you're building Mejal's there's no harm in spending 1k more on Leviathan, didn't have too much success with this tho).
If you build him as tank, without focus on AP and MPen, then he's just a useless HP sink that blinks, the last target in a teamfight. Tankiness when you already have the AP is really cool, because you need to preserve your Soulstealer stacks, but when you do nothing why bother increasing your HP?
It all makes sense if you can reliably instagib a wounded Ashe that stays too far behind her vanguard. If you need 2 volleys of your spells, it's all lost. To be able to do that, you need AP, lots of it. While silence can be nifty in some MU's (Fiddlesticks ololo, Nunu, Karthus), mass slow just doesn't cut it as a teamfight contribution if you have 0 MPen and 300 damage. It's range ain't godly tbh so you can't expect to hit many people with it without dying.
And yeah I kinda worry that the "fix" to Kassadin will involve nerfing his spells to give him a better W. They better think of something that either boosts his early game or gives him some utility in case he doesn't get farmed. And yeah I don't mind if they remove the AS part of his innate totally, the 15% redux is very good on it's own.
I play glass cannon on Kass for a significant amount of time - without Pokey I rush Archangel after one or two Rings, with 0/9/21 masteries. I don't find that I "die" very often, although I've certainly had my share of weird k/d ratio games because I've died initiating. I don't get Mejai nor Leviathan because I hate snowball items on such an unpredictable hero.
He's not a useless HP sink because an AoE snare that does like 400 damage and a 400 damage silence (with archangel) is always going to be useful, regardless of how much damage he actually does. I use Pulse like you use Janna's gale (with regards to messing up teamfights), and in teamfights it charges so fast that you can either 1) completely mess up melee heroes and/or 2) you can keep nuking. And his spells cool down fast enough that carries can't ignore you, because usually in two cycles someone will die (1200 damage, give or take MR and AP). And when you pop up, say [Your team] [Enemy team] [You] and start nuking their carry it's really hard for the carry to ignore you and/or the tank to come all the way back around to knock you off of their carry (and it's hard knocking Kass off anyways). And of course it's not very efficient to try to focus a Kass with Cleanse/Ghost...
oberon: lol, I know, I should also get in the habit of using 1-6 for warding but for some reason I still feel compelled to click on the damn thing. I think at the moment the reason why I'm clicking skills+ is because I don't trust myself to press the right buttons.

i use ctrl + buttons to level abilities, but I have botched it before, lol. like, someone calls for a gank at 6, and I'm like
<_< >_> I dun have ult :p
rarely happens anymore, but yea, I can understand the clicking compulsion.

I believe there's a point in that video where Uta and his pal Morgana were chasing their opponents, when Utah leveled up, then used his silence ball. It didn't quite kill whoever it hit (Yi?). I don't think ctrl+q -> q would've gotten the kill, but it might've. Waiting until after a fight to level is just an easy deficiency to fix.

I always hold my fingers on Q W E R so it's pretty easy to press the correct key.

I feel like "try hard" is a lot like "you mad" and "epic fail"
People who say things like that really aren't worth listening to in the first place.
|
Yea I thought the same, oberon, the moment I cast it. I guess I'll just have to man up and bite the bullet for a few games o/

pantheon is such crazy lane presence atm and heimer is stupid unless you have a way to counter him. the funnything is both of these heroes have HUGE weaknesses, squishy panth/heimer w/o turrets is death.
i'd buff panth squishy and remove some early dmg, then i'd remove those stupid grenades doing damage and find something else.
tryhard isn't a dumb term, it's the first word that pops out of your head when you see allistar/soraka/janna on the other team Yes, tryhard is an extremely dumb word, because of what it implies. I agree that those teams can be annoying, but it is really part of the game and can easily be defeated, it is just hard to punish and a small mistake on your team means you have lost. Should tryhard also be used by zerg players who looses to mech terran. Because mech terran is "easier" to do and harder to beat? Or 2base carrier for protoss? i don't think you understand what try hard means try harding is like picking protoss vs terran if protoss was 2:1 winner due to complications that are not skill related. certain heroes are better then others, but i decide to play master yi instead of soraka because he's more fun. soraka is still 50x better then yi. try hards make prearranged teams with the goal of winning in a game where your hidden match making rating isn't even displayed. i'm not going to beat soraka/allistar/janna if i solo que, ever. everyone tries hard in ranked games, but these are games where there isn't even a big reward for winning. losing to someone who uses mech because it's easier isn't try hard, losing to someone abusing a build order which is an auto win build order is try hard. it's like using akuma in a street fighter tournament (he isn't banned in japanese tournaments, just frowned upon using because he's overpowered) You say it yourself. You pick master Yi to have fun. But then you have decided to do that. You have picked a hero you don't master and have thereby deliberately put yourself at an disadvantage to begin with. If you then lose, don't blame the team comp and say "bla bla you are tryhards". You played to have fun, they played to win, then accept it and don't try to berate them their win. It was your choise. Most good players play to win. For some that means picking a team composition they can play well with, and maybe that is a heal/push team. If you can't beat them, then thats your fault and your team. But people should really stop using tryhard as an excuse to losing.
i didn't pick master yi because i'm bad with him and good with soraka. i picked him because soraka for me is boring as hell, imbalanced as she may be
what's the point of playing to win and not having fun anymore, thats my view

The best way to play is to play to win while having fun
