First time I played the series was 2 (I think?) on the original playstation, before I got into pc gaming, long time ago... :D
I'm currently playing through some other TBS games I missed out on (Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, thinking about picking up one of the HoMM titles as well).

When I play on higher levels I always get forced mostly into Science Victory, because someone would otherwise win via Culture or so (damn you Ghandi!) :o

Wait what.
I have never gotten beaten because some AI won by by culture before. It's literally impossible to lose that way.

Not to drag this too much off civ 5, but how did you like civ 3? I'm always debating which I like better for some reason.

I wanted to go for Conquering every other civ, but had to finish my Science-Project or I would've lost to it.

It possible for the AI to achieve a cultural victory. It happened against me in the past in G&K.

edit: @blood: the only time i lose thru culture vic was on civ 5 main. on g&k it depends on the civs in play, level and location i think. scary.

I must have played a TON of civ 3 back in the day. The way culture and population worked in it was very interesting. Although, I think if I were to go backwards I would play either civ 2 for the nostalgia, or civ 4 to screw around.

It's practically impossible for an AI to achieve cultural victory, because:
1. If they expand, they don't make enough culture to win quickly enough; they might still win, but not via culture. 2. If they don't expand, they will get crushed by bigger neighbours.
Also, because you can track every player's cultural progress, it's easy to see who is going culture. So if you see that Pacal or Monty with 4 policies completed, just bribe another AI to kill him.

I'm honestly hoping this expansion improves multiplayer connections. ):

Hm, this expansion sounds pretty meager. Hopefully they rework religion a bit too, it's kinda lame right now.
|
Yeah it's very hard to justify paying $30 for this, compared to the awesome G+K. I'll probably wait for a sale.
|
I really like the new diplomacy, but yeah, not worth $30.

Finally they took out the gold from river tiles.

Oh, apparently Britney Spears is the name of one of the "Great Musicians".

I didnt expect so many changes, really looking forward to this. I hope they balance it well with old stuff. Anyone knows the date? Maybe I am just stupid but I didnt notice it anywhere.
