Though archipelago might be easier than continents since I was able to reach all the other civs without having to do a deep water crossing. You seem to forget that current AI has absolutely no idea how to play on archipelago (to be fixed in the patch hopefully).

I absolutely don't like the look of forests / mountains / almost everything, including the apple symbol for food etc. Those things can probably be solved by playing more and getting used to it, still i find it pretty hard to see things. Also, i don't like how culture works, felt much better to have the city range growing like in Civ4. Like this i'm pretty much too lazy to always look wether theres a new spot that needs to get modified. (which makes me having the workers on automatic, which probably is not good but worked fine so far) Also I liked cottages which were growing by time much better than the new ones. Been mostly playing without citystates, played once with them and found it annoying, maybe i should get used it. ^^ Ah well i don't know how Civ4 looked at release as i played it for the first time like half a year ago plus with BTS addon.

Just finished a map with small islands, went for England, naval bonus and Ship of the line, which is really sick if you get it out fast. And with the retarded AI this was a complete walk over, in the end I had 7 or 8 level 10ish destroyers wiping out every capital... and threw in a few nukes for the lulz

It also took me a while, but you can see it when you hover over the 'adopt policy' or 'city-state message' button. And in my humble opinion, policy skipping is a bit OP since you can accumulate quite a lot of culture early on with your initial 3-4 cities and then it can get just scary. In my most recent game I just got some initial Tradition for faster wonders, then accumulated with 3 cities and upon hitting renaissance instantly got the entire Rationalism tree save the +2 free techs which not only got me into a golden age but skyrocketed my research from 44 to over a hundred or something. Next up was the free techs (which didn't take long) and welcome to Industrial era while the best comp was in Medieval.

So far it seems unbeatable on up to immortal (wasn't tested on deity I guess): 1. Pick Napoleon. 2. Get your core 3-4 cities. 3. Skip on policies until Piety and get to -20% population unhappiness there. 4. Keep skipping on policies and beeline to Industrial Era while pre-training settlers. 5. Upon hitting industrial instantly adopt Order and entire tree up to +5p/city and -50% city number unhappiness. 6. When above point is complete, start spamming cities on every free square of land (doesn't matter if they're going to overlap). 7. Produce army from your new cities. 8. Win. This lategame ICS (Infinite City Spam) seems unstoppable so far. If you want a better walkthrough of this strategy, Sullla described it very well on his site: http://www.garath.net/Sullla/Civ5/liberteordre.html I was "that dude" that found it ![]() Also you don't need to be Napoleon, or to get Piety. Freedom and Liberty work better.

And why Freedom? You didn't use it in your example and it would only seem good if you went for a cultural victory...
