Also I figured out why BrentalFloss calls Monty a douchebag in his "Civilization with Lyrics". He was friendly from day 1, was a good trading partner, denounced people on my behalf. It's turn 210 and right after I sell him some of my ever-abundant salt, he goes all warmonger on me. You have pikes. I have guns. You don't bring a stick to a gunfight.

Now Babylon on the other hand, he's been a jerk all the livelong day. The one who is going for a 2-city science victory after going to war twice with me (the latter being him standing at my border, occasionally stepping in, leaving, and offering peace. Lol ok). Oh gee looks like I've got all this extra army leftover from Monty! Wow! That's a lot of wonders you built 2 turns before me Be a shame if something happened

He usually just does his own thing and gets wiped by a more aggressive neighbour. The Civ5 GnK AI Powerranking is sort of like this (in terms of danger level): Hiawatha League: Hiawatha Master League: Alex, Catherine, Bismark, Augustus. Diamond League: Sejong, George, Dido, Wu, Pachi, Genghis. Plat and Gold League: everything not listed above nor below. Silver: Ramesses, Maria, Theodora. Bronze: Gandhi, Pacal, Haile. In Deity games it's almost inevitable that one of those top 5 AIs will lead in score and force you to avoid him/her like the plague.

Those top five are the most likely to do it, but I've seen a lot of other ones do it, too. I have a game right now where Napoleon is just out of control. Plus, he has the great wall, so I can't really deal with him easily right now. So which of the new new leaders do you all think is most likely to be tough in BNW? My bet is Shaka. That guy is always an asshole.

I can also see shoshona being annoying because their city spam is going to throw up culture zones all over the place, force you to keep your ciites tighter or go to ear earlier if they do the ai's favorite 'oh i am sorry your road is going through this thing connecting your capital to everything else, let me just plop a city here because there is that one deer'

Also how do you manage money in late-game scenarios where you own half the map? I eventually had to set everything to production focus and convert to gold to not go negative. Granted I made railroads all over, but I needed reinforcements in less than 8 turns. On July 07 2013 04:06 xDaunt wrote: Wow. Apparently BNW adds a 5% tech penalty per city. In other words, each new tech costs 5% more per city that you have. I actually really like this change, because from what I've seen/played (with my week of wisdom), any empire that's been tearing across the continent can just turn around and pump tons of science. It also slows their momentum so that smaller Civs can get out the higher impact techs (modern infantry, tanks, and those 3 range missle things) to fight off larger armies.

Gift all great persons' that arent scientists to the CSs, also get patronage as your 2nd cultural policy thingy that way the CSs will gift you great persons too, which you turn around and gift back. Get corleona's and rampage to get Great Generals.

I'd make it more nuanced by saying something like 5% more cost per city that you own -- that is, specifically that puppeted states wont affect this calculation.

While I love more content, I can't help but feel like I'll have enough to work off of until there's a price drop (or if by some miracle the summer sale comes to the rescue on a brand new expansion, do they do that?). Also how do you manage money in late-game scenarios where you own half the map? I eventually had to set everything to production focus and convert to gold to not go negative. It also slows their momentum so that smaller Civs can get out the higher impact techs (modern infantry, tanks, and those 3 range missle things) to fight off larger armies. I don't know. On one hand BNW adds stuff which yeah might drown you a bit more but on the other hand BNW also revamps stuff so what you learn now in these areas will become obsolete anyway. So, if you fear to be drown by content, stay on G&K but don't bother really learning cultural victory or diplo victory (learning how to ally many CS is a good idea though). I would at least play until I'm comfortable with Prince or King anyway. If you manage to get strong domination/science victory on King or Emperor, I'd say you know enough to make the switch. In the end BNW mainly adds: -The world congress for world decisions and diplomatic victory -Culture revamp (and tourism) -Many changes to social policy(Piety at ancient era, Order/Autocracy/Freedom complete revamp and strong diplomatic impact) -Trade routes -Some balance stuff which to be honest won't really affect you if you're a new player -New civs So as you can see, it's mainly late game stuff (but trade routes). As for the 5% science penalty, not sure.
