from what i understand, the AI can be a bit "opportunistic". meaning, if they have a stronger army than you, then they're more likely to attack you. it's just like punishing a greedy player in starcraft. took me a while to figure that out.

i stopped playing this game cuz it felt either way too easy or way too hard. and super gimmicky/luck based. i probably just suck tho.

This is true.

However, you should also note that not AIs are made the same. Some AIs are a lot more "opportunistic" than others.

For example if you appears to be weak militarily Napoleon will instantly dow you. On the other hand Gandhi *usually* won't do it unless you piss him off in some way.

And some are just fucking insane and will do their best to fight you no matter what you do. Most obvious culprit of this is Montezuma. In my experience Elizabeth is the same if she is anywhere close to you in terms of strength.

When you get up to the higher difficulties, almost all of the AIs are warmongers that will DoW you. In part, this is a function of the AI almost always having a comparatively larger army than you until you make the switch to full blown war production.

Well, last 2 Civs are hella underwhelming. Don't like their choices at all.
But nevertheless I think BNW is worth getting. Only thing is, if you pick it up now or wait some time for a similiar sale like last week and get it for 1/3 of it's release price. I preordered it, cause I'm already excited to freshen up my Civ experience.
I'm shy and reserved, even on the internet.

Shoshone, on the other hand, seems really, REALLY OP. Almost guaranteed Pantheon (pop Faith) by itself is very strong.

Choosing what to get from ruins seems pretty OP no more gold map reveal and barbarian reveals only technology, culture and faith :D

I am slightly curious as to whether or not they START with Pathfinders or not. If they do, they will be mindblowingly OP. If they don't, they will still be pretty good.

That's one way to look at it. The other way is that it's a Civ that's actually designed for OCC. So you play it if you want to play OCC, and if you don't then you don't.

Of course, the problem comes if the CPU randomly picks it; it's basically like having one fewer opponents.
